Mason Mount

Featured Replies

If he wants to go, that's fine. To be honest I've been so numbed by this season that I don't think there's a single player in the team who I'd be upset if they asked to leave, right now.

We've got over the hill mercenaries on huge wages taking up squad spots.
Academy players wanting out, or basically taking the piss out of us on social media, even still under contract.

It's all just a big mess that I find it hard to care about.

Also tired of people blaming the board. I get that is the cool thing to do these days a Chelsea fan but this situation was clearly in Mount's court. He chose to leave because he wanted money

Not to mention, if he was signed up to a new deal and his 'form' turned out to be early burnout many of the same people blaming the board here would be scathing over their lack of foresight.

Ok thats fine but for me you still don't have an argument.

Jorginho got on the Ballon D'Or Podium and was voted UEFA Player of the year which is generally harder than winning POTY. Still got abuse. And the reason was that plenty thought he didn't deserve that 3rd place and UEFA award so they felt vindicated when they abused him.

Likewise many thought Mount winning those POTY's was a joke and they simply called him out for his " lackadaisical displays and lack of ability." There are a lot more similarities than you are prepared to admit.

People who abused Mount use the exact same arguments that you use to defend their position.

Jorginho got the award based on what he won (playing for Chelsea and Italy), not his performances. Mount won the awards as voted by fans of the club.

I can't give it head space, I don't think it's true, according o most the papers most of our 1st team are leaving.

Part of me hopes that Pochettino is that ruthless, however his official start date is 1st July, I would imagine Mason will be in the Med somewhere, I can't see them having a long conversation as yet ?  - Maybe I am wrong, many a good deal has been done on the beach I am sure.

Fair enough. Sad state of affairs though, when you feel so personally aggrieved that you can't even wish a departing player all the best.

In his life? Sure but if he goes to Man.United from a footballing perspective I hope the CWC is the last bit of club silverware he ever lifts.

However I really hope he picks the Mata over Mourinho route in regards to how he talks about the club and especially supporters while there (a minority of idiots on twitter doesn't change the fact the vast majority gave him nothing but unconditional support).

Which further emphasizes my point that he better not start taking shots at us like the guy on your username did.

Maybe I didn’t explain myself well or used the wrong wording. Of course I wish him well on human level, and hope he remains healthy etc. But not going to wish that he has a successful career at united because they are our rivals.

Edit: Argo explained it better

We aren't getting anywhere so I won't continue.

But my point absolutely stands. If its ok to abuse one player because you personally believe he isn't good enough then don't complain when others do the same to a player you rate. Because there are many who rates Mount, there are many who rates Jorginho and opinions will differ.

Been a pleasure, you haven't changed my opinion at all. Mount - young and good, Jorginho - old and bad.

Have a lovely day.

Pochettino wants 15 players gone. The ones I can see going are Ziyech, Pulisic, Kova, Mount, Auba, Zakaria, Felix, maybe Havertz with the rumours about RM, Kepa or Mendy potentially, Azpi (?) Loftus-Cheek. Fifteen seems a massive push as we don't have that many players we need to sell.

So looks like the only midfielders we will have before long are Enzo, Chuck, Santos and Connor.. hope we don’t sell players like mooing and let Kante leave on a free and spend another 60 mil on a bang average player like CC..

but hey has been the malaise that has set in.. we have struggled to replace our stars with quality.. or worse in most cases players come here to lose form.. we haven’t been able to replace a Courtois.. A terry .. midfielders like lamps /fabregas .. forget hazard even a Pedro .. a drogba costa..

the league position may not be a reflection of the money we have spent but is surely reflective of the quality in the squad

The point is if he'd accept personal terms with United, why couldn't we match their offer? I don't think United would pay him like Ronaldo, be surprised if he's even among the top earners there. The odds are in his favour, if we don't match his expectation, of course his agent would twist his arms. Loyalty kind go both ways, if Pochettino rates him as a player, just need to offer him more. It's one thing supporting the manager in the transfer market, but if we can't even more a decent offer to keep a player the manager wants, that's a different matter.

As I mentioned in an earlier post I would wish him happiness and success except when Chelsea is involved.

This is such a strange take, both have equally been good for us. There are different ways of being effective on a football pitch, Jorginho is a system player and was instrumental in both teams winning that season. He also was signed by Arsenal and the manager thought he could help them challenge for the title, similar to how many think Mount going could help Utd.

I respect people have different opinions on players but the reality is neither are good enough to get where we want to be. Hence why we sold Jorginho and we are not giving Mount what he wants.

I don’t think Mount had any intention to extend his contract once it was made clear that he wasn’t going to be the highest paid player at the club, be made club captain, have complete control of image rights, or whatever other demands his father/agent was making.

I really think the club made what they considered to be a good offer to Mount. Reece James accepted a similar offer. It wasn’t good enough for Mount, he got the hump, and decided to leave. The club brought in Enzo and Felix to cover themselves. Felix didn’t work out. But they’ve known Mount was on the way out for months I reckon.

We don’t want players who aren’t willing to fight for the club. In his short time here Enzo has shown more character than Mount ever has. For a player who’s been here since he was a kid, that’s more than disappointing. Reece James had it right. If you’re not willing to stick by the club then it’s best you piss off. Eden Hazard was never a Chelsea youth product but he gave his best years to the club and is a true legend. It’s not all about money, Mason. It’s also about the respect you get from the fans and the legacy you leave behind. You can’t buy that.

They pay DDG £375k a week.. They're a shockingly poorly run club, wouldn't surprise me at all if he's on £250k+ PW there.

Agree with most of your post, but Mount certainly played his heart out for us until the implosion of the past season. He showed a fantastic attitude and workrate and was a model professional. It must be a bigger issue than just 'getting the hump', but he seems to have made up his mind to jump ship, leaving the club with no option but to cash in, and forever destroying the great relationship Mount had with the fan base.

I think @Drogba1posted a story from James which appeared to be a cryptic message about the situation.

Certainly more to this than meets the eye.

Blimey, if you read the match day threads then that's kind of what most wanted.  I am not convinced, Do you risk that many changes ? even if they haven't performed ?  This is a very expensive strategy, surely he is coming in to improve what we have ?

sorry i am just cynical, summer is always silly season for speculation for us.

Like I said in my post above, I kind of hope its true, at least it will take away "look what I inherited" excuse if we don't perform.

Serves us right , f**ked the lad about when he bleeds Blue. And that sack of sh*t Raheem is on 350K a week. Unforgivable.

He bleeds blue but all about the green.

If he was blue to the core, money won't be an issue. It's not like he has been asked to take a pay cut but actually offered a huge increase and good deal as well. He is just greedy and a bit covetous of what others are earning (rightly or wrongly).

Lets not act like he's a saint and we are offering him a pittance. If sterling is on what he is, should Mason that hasn't achieved what Sterling has in the game yet be on par?

Sterling has lived up to his billing from being a starlet to now an experienced pro. No matter what his form is like now, he lived up to the hype from when he broke as a teen at Liverpool.

Mason..... Jury still out.

Mount deserves to be one of the top 3 earners in the squad, based on his past few seasons with us. If that doesn't fit within our wage structure, that's because Boehly and his gaggle or clowns have come in and given new players too much money. Feeling under-appreciated is not a good motivator, so I can see why Mount wants out.

Overall, it's quite a depressing state of affairs, and I think Mount would've been perfect under Pochettino.

Utd fans seem underwhelmed currently, but there's no doubt in my mind he'll be one of their top performers and they will love him by next year.
