Mason Mount

Featured Replies

If he made his mind up, let's squeeze our whatever we could get our of the deal with United, or let him rot in the reserves. If he's going to another league, probably take a different approach. But it's United, they will never sell us anyone, we have sold them 2 very good players in the last 10 years, need to take a stand somehow, even it's costing lots of money.

I don't understand those slating the board for this.

They want him to stay, and have made him an offer of a new contract that is eye watering amounts of money.

Mason has decided that the money on offer is not enough.

That is on him, not us.

Now he has agreed terms with a rival, without an offer even having been accepted. Is that even allowed?

Bleeds blue my arse. The guy is pissing off to a rival after contributing heavily to what has been an abysmal season. If he gave a sh*t about Chelsea, he would try and clean up this mess.

From my point of view, he's just another mercenary that is whining because he couldn't get that extra money to play for Chelsea football club, or he's a bottler that couldn't hack it when things got tough so is looking for an easy way out. One thing he's not is somebody that bleeds blue.

You want to see players that get f**ked around by their club? then look no further than Barcelona players. I've seen their players not getting paid wages, taking massive pay cuts, pressured into taking even bigger cuts. Their greatest player ever took a 50% pay cut just to continue playing for them, but was later forced out because he couldn't cut it any lower. None of them wanted to leave, they had much more respect for the club and it's fans. Mount is no victim, if he really wanted to stay, he would have.

Thank f**k we didn't play into the media narrative that he should have been our next permanent captain. He's not fit to be amongst names like Wise, Desailly, Terry and Azpilicueta.

There is a lot more than money to this. The only thing that was ever on the table for him was either a 7-year contract or a 1-year contract. For Mount there are clearly issues with that which I could understand. There was also a verbal understand that was later changed and Mount felt betrayed about that, we did the exact same thing with Benfica for Enzo too.

The only reason there isn't a general meltdown over this is because he's coming off a poor season but everyone was poor and if we want to judge on the back of that we may as well sell Reece James to City as well.

Not like the sale will do that much for our finances either. Selling Mount, Kova, RLC and Chalobah for example will merely cover what we lose in Champions League money this season. So basically we have to sell Mount because they f**ked the season up.

I don't buy that the only options were 7 years or 1 year. Chilwell signed an extension in April until 2027, so I don't believe that a similar deal wasn't negotiated with Mount at some point.

Yes, but that one takes Chilwell to 31. Seven year contract would have taken Mount to 31.

Meaning they would be tied to the club during their absolute prime and the club would be in a much stronger position for negotiations for the next potential contract. Mount will probably sign a four year contract with United that takes him to 28 meaning he'll be in a great position for another top contract right in his prime, here he wouldn't get that opportunity.

Looks like no Declan Rice then haha.

As for Mount. He can go. In no way this season has he managed to be a shining light amongst constant turmoil on the pitch to justify his high wage demands. We made the wrong decision with CHO lets not succumb to pressure for Mount.

Think there is blame of both sides.

If Mount really wanted to stay, he would.

If we really wanted him to stay we would make him such an offer he would.

Clearly he is happy enough to go and does not really want to stay, and we are happy to cash in and let him go.

When I say we I mean the owners. Most Chelsea fans are upset about this for several reasons.

None of us know what the contract on offer is, we take what is reported in the papers or on twitter as gospel. If we really wanted the player to stay and the player likewise wanted to remain, compromise would be found. Clearly there is blame on both sides if he leaves.

I have thought for some time, that his father (Agent) has a rather over inflated view of his worth. I have no doubt Chelsea offered him a very good deal but his father wasn't happy. I have a horrible feeling Mason is being controlled in this decision. He could have had a decent rise in pay and stayed to become a Captain and a Chelsea legend, but he (or his Dad) has CHOSEN to leave and go elsewhere, lets get this straight, he is NOT being forced out, by the Club, Todd, Pochettino or anybody else, it is his choice. So, If he goes to United he becomes the "oppo" and I gain an instant dislike for him 😉

I don't agree with the "really" wanting him to stay narrative.

We made a very lucrative offer (allegedly) for eye blistering amounts of money.  We (again allegedly) wanted to back Mase and tie him to the club for a long period - reportedly 7 years.

Big money. Long term contract. New manager who wants him. That is more than enough evidence of us "really" wanting him.

There is a difference however between really wanting him, and wanting him at any cost. Somethings we all want, but not at any cost.

I think most people really want the war in Ukraine to be over - but not at any cost (i.e Russia taking large swathes of Ukrainian land). I know that this is an off topic example, but it is just to demonstrate that things can't always be at any cost.

Mase was nurtured, trained, developed, given opportunities, adored and cheered,  offered huge riches and long term commitment..... but he didn't want it.  The money wasn't enough. The contract was too long. he doesn't like twitter trolls. Whatever the reason - he didn't want it.  This is on him. Not us.

“Money Mase” is a fitting name, when the club needed him most what does he do, “feck off and leave”.

Could never lace Hazard boots, he stayed with us through difficult times and only left us on a high.

The first time he has faced some difficulty and he’s jumping ship, he could have easily extend for a year or two if he doesn’t want a new long term deal to help club through this transition then if he wants to leave make sure the club gets a good fee for him.

Does he think United fans will be as forgiving as us!!

Aaaaand the venom-spewing has begun.

Nobody knows for sure what is happening, but sure, let's heap some abuse on Mount.

He changed his agent in March.

I think he is being sensible in not accepting a 7 year deal. This as others have pointed out would end up the last big deal of his career. Now as I have said previously and in other threads I firmly believe players wages are far too much but I understand someone wanting to get the best for themselves in the current market. All players have overinflated egos as to their worth. It is though laughable that we as fans decide that one millionaire is worth 175k per week whilst another millionaire is worth an extra 50k on top. We as fans shouldn't really be privy to the negotiations and as we found out many times what is reported is incorrect when the final figures are revealed. There have been other reports that there is a disagreement as well as wages to image rights, again unsubstantiated. I do reiterate none of us on here know the full facts and blame can probably be apportioned to both sides unwilling to compromise.

Not abuse if he was Mr Chelsea he would find a compromise absolutely he would!!!
Hes Mr Chelsea if things are going great, I don’t expect him to sign 7 year deal that was just dumb by Ted Lasso what I hope for is “Mr Chelsea” would find a middle ground. He clearly feels he should be one of the highest paid which board doesn’t feel the same way.

A final thought on this, he has always been a bit of a square peg. Not a front three player or a 10. No good in a two either.

We also have Lewis Hall. Casadei. Santos. Carney Chukwuemeka. Nkunku. Kai.

 The future is bright.

If He Wants To Leave For Whatever Reason If It's In Terms Of Money, Contract Length, Direction Of Club Or  What Others Are Paid Then So Be It, He's A Very Good Player, But Not A Cornerstone Of The Team

For Too Long Now We've Signed Our Guys To Massive Extensions  And They've Been A Bit sh*t (CHO, RLC) Whenever We Sign Anyone From Another Club, We Always Pay Them Overinflated Wages As An Enticement To Want To Play For Us So I Can't Accept Talk Of What Sterling Is On Compared To What Mount "Allegedly" Wants

Say what you like about Sterling, but he has better stats the past 5 seasons than Mount does. Mount is very up and down as a player. Of course it would be ideal to keep a youth product like Mason, but he could have signed a contract under the old ownership and didn't. That tells us what we need to know. He cost nothing, if we get £60m+ for him then it's good business. Personally I'm hoping we get more, but he has a season left on his contract so...

Indeed. I suspect this is the new agent getting in his ear, no doubt because the commission cheques will be bigger from a transfer to United, not to mention the next deal after the United one 🙂

Mason probably does bleed blue, but it's Pompey Blue not Chelsea Blue LOL

If this transfer happens, I'd be amazed if Rice doesn't end up at United as well.

Note Pep wasn't in for Mount. City are the standard we aspire to, and if Mount isn't considered desirable enough for City to be interested, then this transfer is probably the right thing for all parties, particularly us.

As said above, Mount has no obvious position other than the bench in the 4-2-3-1 that Pochettino will probably settle on.

Onwards and upwards.

James, Colwill, Hall and Broja can be the face of the academy in the squad from now on, and that looks pretty good to me.

For those blaming Boehly, apparently before the world cup Mount and his dad had pretty much agreed on a new contract, the structure etc that Boehly himself had proposed, so Something changed along the way.

It's amazing people are such mind readers. I myself have usually no idea what someone clearly feels. Also, I have no insight into contract negotiations.

Mount is perfectly entitled to chose his employer. He never called himself Mr. Chelsea or labelled himself a future captain. That's the supporters. Yes, it will hurt seeing him in another kit than ours, but we'll survive that, we always have. If he is (and now clearly was) so loved, why not just thank him, and wish him happiness but not success when it involves Chelsea.
