Mason Mount

Got to assume Liverpool and arsenal have both balked at his demands and looking elsewhere if united are his first choice.

Or his agent is making up rumours to force Chelsea’s hand.

Supply and Demand - unless someone wants Sterling he stays with us.

Yep Boehly and team have right royally made it a lot harder than it should have been and will delay us getting back to silverware or top 4.

I know a lot of people don’t like sterling but personally I wouldn’t mind keeping him. Still think he can offer more under the right manager and this team really lacks league winning experience and personality which he has a lot of. Plus it wouldn’t hurt to keep an English core on our team which both mount( if he stays) and sterling can be apart of.

Lampard on Mason Mount situation.

In the old days it would be like: Why are you leaving, you shouldn’t… but in the modern day a lot of players are leaving, it’s just a shame that maybe we’ve got into a situation where it looks like it’s maybe happening now”. 🔵 #CFC

Frank Lampard on Mount new contract unlikely: “Because I've worked in football and I've worked long time, I understand that many things can happen”. 🔵 #C

Doesn’t sound positive.

He's definitely leaving and I can't make my mind up on how I feel right now. Like I said a few days ago, if it's solely because he couldn't negotiate a deal that is as good as one of the highest earners, then I feel no sympathy and I don't think anybody else should. If the manager is picking you every week, your fans are singing your name and you're treated like a poster boy of the club, then isn't that enough on top of your already incredibly high wages? If not, then goodbye, we don't need you. I'm not interested in cheering on a player that wants to leave because he's not getting as much money as his friends. Maybe I would have more sympathy if he was a chef on minimum wage, but I can't feel sympathy for those that will make more in a week than most people would in a decade.

It will be interesting to hear Mount's reasons, but I am sure it would be one I find hard to sympathise with.

Personally I’d be disappointed in him if he leaves on the back of what’s been a poor year, both for the club and for him personally. I thought he’d be the kind of player who’d want to stay and help turn things around. Instead it looks like he’s just jumping ship when things get difficult. That’s when you want players to show some commitment and character. I get that he needs to look after himself and his family, but it’s not as if he’s going to be destitute. All the shenanigans around his contract, the selective leaking to the press about his preference for United, his planned goodbye to the fans, just leaves a really bad taste with me. I don’t believe for a moment the club want him to go. Or they need to sell him for FFP. Ultimately, you want players committed to the club and if he’s not committed then the club should sell him, preferably abroad, then move on.

Honestly feel the same way. I know a lot have mentioned that he's received abuse from fans but that has just been a vocal minority, the majority of Chelsea fans have supported him through his ups and his lows, sang songs of him, and made posters of him and now it just feels like he's jumping ship because we are currently in the mud and won't offer him a lot of money.

One of the reasons I respect Hazard is that he was willing to stay at Chelsea after our sh*t season and only wanted to leave on a high. Sadly it's all about money and cars for the modern player.

Could it possibly be that he started off wanting more money, but over time he concerned as to the direction the club is heading in, and how his career may be affected?

Maybe he feels it will be several years before everything is settled and the club can be successful again, and he wants to challange for and win major honors, not spend the best years of his career in mid-table?

Don't blame him for leaving.

Had he not just signed a new deal I would not be surprised if Reece James was looking at doing the same.

Good luck to Mase wherever he ends up, he always gave his best for us even if he was playing sh*t.

James that can’t stay fit? Not sure any sane club will be throwing money at him. He is lucky he got that fat contract, mugged us off IMO.

I reckon the daft Felix loan has a part to play. Mount was having a very poor season playing as a “10” in the 4-2-3-1, Boehly decides to pay a ridiculous loan fee for Felix in Jan resulting in Potter moving Mount to the bench. That lack of trust by Boehly and Potter by extension must have been hard for Mount.

Not that it will happen but if we decided to cash in I don't think we would have a difficult task getting a good fee.

Aye that likely did not help and may well have left him questioning not only where we are heading as a club, but where Mounts career would be heading too.

It does though; he has been offered more money that Pulisic & Kai but insists he wants parity with James. The club isn’t looking to give Pulisic & Havertz contract, they are trying get rid of both players.
Fair point he has outplayed all those players but you need more data to justify handing out bigger contracts.
IMO for someone big on data analysis Boehly dropped the ball on James’s contract. 2019/20 he had 0 goals & 2 assists in 24 games & was handed a £60k/w contract. 2020/21 he had 1 goal & 2 assists in 32 games, so you can clearly see a trend. 2021/22 he had 5 goals & 9 assists in 26 games, you can see an usual spike in his numbers. This was during the pandemic with games cancelled and rescheduled. The data says his expected goal is 2 & expected assists is 6. He is proclaimed a “world class RB”, and with 2 yrs left on his contract his agent puts word out in the press that Madrid wants him. Boehly comes in & gives him a 4x salary bump to £250k/w. James finishes the season with 1 goal & 1 assist in 16 games which is just about normal.

James is one of the best rb in the world. I am not even sure how you can dispute that. You can't use goal/assist to judge defender though, it depend on your role in the team.

If Kai is earning 200k/wk,  i will ask for 250k if I were Mount. You can't just say we need more data. He has outplayed him for 2 seasons.

Like I said this is the biggest problem. Not Reece contract far from it. I am a huge Mount fans but he is not a superstar level player, but he has outplayed all of this so called superstar. Now he is up for extension, you can't just say, we know that you are Chelsea POTY 2 season in a row, we know that you have outplayed all these players but we don't want to pay you more.

Quite a few of our academy players have been linked with being sold. Mount is the most likely to go however in  addition to him:

Colwill - linked to both City and Pool - 50mill

Gallagher - linked to various including Newcastle- 40mill

Maatsen - linked to Burnley - 25mill

Chalobah - linked to Inter - 25mill

RLC - linked to Milan - 15mill

CHO - no links other than to be sold - 15mill

Put that together with Mount at probably 60mill and Todd and co could raise 230mill which would allow them some ways of allowing some players to go for less than book value, such as Lukaku, Koulibaly and Cucurella, for example.

Said it before, that I like Mase and I want him to stay....but...

- He is not a standout player or game changer. He is a grafter, but doesn't do enough to take games by the scruff of their neck.

- He is not one of the best in his position in the world. I don't think he has the ceiling to be one of the best in the world.

- With the first 2 points in mind, an offer of c.£200k per week is already generous.

- I get however why he would want parity with others. K2 and Sterling have both also failed to set the world alight, despite being on big wages. That must not sit well with Mase, who no doubt will be being told "you were player of the season twice, yet they are paying you less than others"

- But just because mistakes were made in the past (contracts of K2, raheem, RLC and CHO spring to mind), then it doesn't mean we should continue to overpay.

So - I want mase to stay. He has a place in the team/squad - and think he would do well under Pochettino. But if he is choosing money vs pride of playing for the club - then let him go on his merry way.

That just sounds like an excuse his agent will make up when/if he leaves to cover up the fact that he wants more money. Saka was on Arsenal when they were sh*t and rode with them until they got good this season, simply leaving a club because of the "direction" is a cheap excuse.

If that's playing a part in the reason he's leaving he's in for a nasty shock if he goes to a rival.

The England fans of our rival clubs already think he's overrated crap so he'll have the same or worse level of trolling plus potential stick at the game to go with it.
