Mason Mount

The club did the right thing and those guys that were brought to identify talent are not here just for the new arrivals, but to asses the current squad, too.

Is Mount's ceiling that high? For me it is not. He is not a 200k a week (or more) player and I am glad Winstanley and the other guys are ruthless in that aspect and give a fair assesment & offer.

It's not a secret anymore we'll be playing a 4231 under Pochettino with two holding midfielders and Nkunku at "10". Mount is not a holding midfielder and an average no. 10. The only way he'd have been a starter under Pochettino is if he was the no. 10 and Nkunku was on the left.

Which leaves Mudryk out of the team and no way this was posssible as Mudryk is one of those that the club made a big investment in and to be fair Mudryk's ceiling is probably one of the highest in Europe in terms of young, raw players.

Nkunku on the left and Mount at "10" would have worked, too. But Mudryk on the left and Nkunku at "10" is way more better.

So is he a snake for leaving or are Winstanley and Stewart ruthless and withdrew the offer? If like you say they were ruthless and withdrew the offer surely everyone on the forum must feel pretty foolish calling him a snake as it wasn't his decision.

Absolutely.

I'll never begrudge any worker looking to get better pay anyway they can, even by moving to the rivals/competition or using them as leverage in negotiating better pay with current employer.

200k per week wasn't enough for him because he determined it not and that's good enough, but for him and his team to make it out like the club tried to do him dirty is just wrong.

He was looking for more money and that's ok. The person that gave him the moniker Mon£y Ma$e was spot on and let's leave things as they are

He isn't a Chelsea legend, isn't Chelsea through and through and hasn't achieved anything in his career yet that should emboldened him to morally hold Chelsea FC by the gonads for improved pay.

What he is though, is believe he is worth more than he is and that's okay. He is similar to Lukaku, Havertz and all others some people like to have umbrage at for having such beliefs. It'd be nice if they applied this consistently to Mon£¥ Ma$€ too.

truly laughable. Guess 2x POTY and a CL assist is only worth the £80k a week he was on. Reece James on his £250k a week better be bringing world peace.

How?

They offered what they thought Mount was worth. He turned it down.

What could they have done differently?

Nothing. If that's the case fair enough. Obviously bad blood from the offered before christmas. If this is the case of the club withdrawing their offer and then offering lower do you agree its daft for everyone on here to be calling him a snake?

Scumbag traitor and brown nose - he'll probably fit in fine up there.

And you think this why? The club withdrew their offer...

Could be a fun day on here calling out the hypocrisy.

Its amazing isnt it, same people who call the new owners clowns, say they dont understand football, embarrassing the club are suddenly master negotiators and have done the right thing simply because Mason Mount has been sold.

Theres a group of our "Fans" who seem to lose their minds over anything Mount related, ever since he got in the side ahead of their favourite little players (Pulisic etc) he has been a target for morons. Dont blame him one bit for leaving.

Cobham players in general are a target from a lot of overseas fans. You should see the hate Chalobah was getting on social media last night for saying bye to Mount. Honestly crazy. Even James was getting dogs abuse after we signed Gusto.

Regardless I think it's daft, he wanted more money than we offered him. He wanted a contract in line with our top top stars, and we just didn't see him that way.

It has to be said that he's been pretty average for the last 18 months and I'd have been very surprised to see him offered a contract in line with what Reece James is on.

I think he's a bit daft though and taking a big risk. Yes he can get more at united, but it should have been a wake up call that Liverpool and City didn't come in for him and he could quote quickly fall out of favour at a club like united.

I really rated Mount when Frank brought him into the team. He had been decent in the academy side, winning FA Youth Cups and at Derby in the Championship and started well in our First Team. I personally got caught up in the "he's proper Chels" furore probably all the pics of him with Reece as kids in their Chelsea kits had an effect. His first full season at Chelsea was excellent, the second less so, and since then his performances have been average at best.  He is good but NEVER a great. Being "proper Chels" does not entitle him to the same sort of terms as Reece, Enzo etc. United turned his (and/or his Father's) head, but none of the big European Clubs or City, Arsenal, Liverpool have even looked at him, so I believe that the £60m we will end up with is a great result and should be celebrated.

Isn't it a bit weird to still frantically defend Mount guys? For whatever reason he's left to a direct rival and now plays for them. The only "dogs abuse" he got was on Twitter and in real life he got banners, chants and universal praise at the Bridge.

Agreed, but its not about defending Mount, from reading some of the other posts and some of the opposing opinions i ahev read here about loyalty. I think the dogs abuse that was mentioned was in reference to Reece James but the rule still applies.

Chants and banners and adulation are great for the players, its what they crave and drives them on. But the matchday experience is just a small element of their overall lives and their personal personas which now seem to be made public property by this toxic, poisonous and totally pointless social media obsessed world that is forced upon us all.

As i mentioned elsewhere you can't expect loyalty from players when social media is rife with bile and abuse form alleged club fans that not only the players see but is there for every friend and loved one to see as well.

Image management used to be about endorsements, advertising, branding. Now it seems to be about character and mental health preservation.

Some taking this far to seriously

I for one are not going to abuse him on social media, I am hardly on any social media. I am not going to wish him ill health, or abuse his family. I am not going to throw things at him when he returns to The Bridge (unless it’s a stick of celery)

it’s good old fashioned football rivalry, we bought him up and nurtured him and put him in the position he is in from a young lad ….. going gets a little tough and he wants to top up his millions he signs for one of our biggest rivals …… he is a good old fashioned Judas simple as 😊

I am certainly not worried about life at Chelsea without him 😂

Another senior player gone… and we buying unproven future prospects to replace them😤 and hoping to win top 4.  Wages going down but also the quality and they never played together. Unproven midfielders, wingbacks and attackers 🫣👍🏾.

Twitter is mostly a cesspit. Every single player gets abuse there from someone and it doesn't matter if you are Messi or Mount.

It's his decision to go and fair enough. But this "don't blame him for leaving because he got abuse on Twitter" excuse doesn't hold water for me. Just about everyone in football gets it there.

There's been plenty of players at this club who's had it far harder than Mount and stuck with the club.

Again, his decision to leave and fair enough but why defend a Manchester United player? He wasn't a proper Chelsea lad afterall, that's basically the bottom line.

No defending going on, he's gone and we move on without him. Its part of football. Just pointing out how utterly bizarre it is that everyone has grabbed every negative and pointed blame at Mount when its being widely reported its as much on the club. Club didn''t want to pay him what he deserved, fair enough we have Nkunku anyway. We now have people on here pretending he's sh*te and calling him a snake like he wasn't 2x POTY and won us a CL.

Same with Kai, he's gone. He's not a snake just forget about him.

Bunch of kids.

Name one.

I'm sad that this saga has ended this way. Always held out hope things would be resolved and he'd stay.

Not interested in rewriting what he's done for/with us or assigning blame to him or the club. Good player, fun to watch, will feel weird seeing him in red.

exactly the kind of reasonable response we should be seeing on here. Well put.

Fantastic servant who gave his all for us for 4 years and was a huge part of winning massive trophies. Not our player anymore though, we move on without him and we'll carry on being successful.

Jorginho
Booed multiple time at the Bridge, multiple times away from home, actually got dogs abuse on here, Twitter and other places. This was his mindset about that situation:

He said: "With technology, we see everything [said about us] -- and very quickly. The important thing is to know how to deal with the situation."I am calm because fans are like that: when you don't win, they complain. They have the right to complain, but I remained calm. I will continue to do my job and, without doubt, I believe I can show my worth and change their minds."

Stuck with the club and did what he said he would do. Give me that mindset any day of the week over Mounts.

Jorginho didn't get even a fraction of the hate the weird online cultist have bombarded Mount with. Imagine going home and logging into Instagram and 90% of your comment section being some random American or Nigerian telling you you're worthless and you should leave. In fact, the majority of the Mount hate comes from the Sarri/Jorginho fans that joined Chelsea in 2019.

He left under the exact same circumstances as Mount with contract running out and club not offering what they want. Only ones a snake on here though. Hmm.

One of these pictures is from Jorginho’s goodbye message to chelsea fans on Instagram, the other is from Mount’s Instagram post of him visiting a dying child for make a wish. You tell me Jorginho got more abuse with a straight face:

So why should he care about that? I assume Mount doesn't check his Instagram comments first thing after training. It's a cesspit of bots, trolls and weirdos anyways.

Mount got a lot of love from actual Chelsea fans. Means comments on Insta/Twitter is a sh*t excuse for leaving and it's of course not why he's leaving. He's going because he gets the wages he wants at United.

Thank you and goodbye, Mason.

If staying wasn't an option, I would have preferred to see him go abroad. As it's ManU for him, I wish him every failure there, as I loathe that club. Still, I really hope he gets a warm applause from our supporters when he comes to the Bridge. After all, he's spent an long time at Chelsea, and lived with us through highs and lows.

No they aren't snakes. I hope they both get a warm reception at the bridge when they return.

But from my view, we didn't want to pay him what he thought he was worth, not what he necessarily "deserved". And I think it's telling that the only club that could, was United. Liverpool backed off, Arsenal felt Kai was a better option, Munich didn't bother.

There's no story out there that he's been sold on the United vision. It's plain and simple that he's moved there as they are the only club that is paying him what he wants.

I think when he looks back on his career he's going to regret the move.
