Mason Mount

Featured Replies

United’s wage structure is bonkers. Fair play to Mount, especially with it being 300k pw with bonuses but f**k me that is madness. These kind of personal terms end up being a reference point for the game as a whole, United muddying the waters once again.

We don't know what he was offered. Some say he was offered a big contract. Some say he wasn't. It's pointless speculating.

We probably offer him something close to 200 whereas united offer him something close to 300.

He left for money basically, I can see him joining United's ever growing list of highly paid flops over the past 10 years.

It looks like this is the new Chelsea.

I can't imagine for team like us to lose player like Mount especially to our PL rival. But it is what it is

It is time for me to find a new favorite player.

I don't think he's as huge a loss as some will think.

Even in his best season of double digit goals and assists, the vast majority were against teams in the bottom 6, and for the amount of minutes he was playing he was actually outperformed on a per 90 basis by several others in the squad during his time with us.

Anyway, best of luck Mason. Wishing him an injury-free career at Manchester United, with lots of money and zero trophies 🙂

Mount getting big money at united, but why didnt we put an offer on the table for him, except a 12 month extension?

He has been forced out imo, good luck to him.

?  Do you really believe that the club didn't offer him anything?

of course we put an offer on the table.

The club offered him some really decent money. BUT United offered him more and he went where the money was.

he was not forced out.

Believe whatever you like. He turned down a 12 month extension in February, the other verbal offer he actually agreed to from Boehly pre world cup, was the pulled by winstanley.

Not sure what Mount is meant to do in that situation.

He divides opinion, but I honestly dont get how anyone is seeing this money grabber trait in him. Yeah he wants to be paid, but he wouldve stayed at Chelsea for less than he is going to united imo.

Winstanley obviously sees it differently, let's hope they make some decent moves, and it's not just a case of replacing mount with another raw player that may or may not turn out good in the next couple of seasons.

We screwed ourselves by offering James the £250k/w contract (not worth it IMO), it was obvious he was going to want parity. Makes more sense now why Liverpool who he was linked with for most of the window walked away from the deal & signed Mac Allister on £150k/w, they were never going to offer him £200k/w+.

James walks into any team in the world Mount doesn’t big difference.

indeed.

Loyalty is a myth. Mason Mount chose money over loyalty. It really is a simple equation.

chelsea football club offered Mount a good deal and he chose a more lucrative one elsewhere.

Mata went there in not to drastically different circumstances.

The loyalty argument doesn't really work for me. Fans due to being emotionally involved assume the player has to prioritize club over money, but for players it's a job first, and an opportunity to make as much money as possible in a very short window of a professional footballer's active career.

And loyalty goes both ways. Clubs are only "loyal" to the players they value and want to keep, the rest they sell, release, loan out etc. without any consideration of what it's like for a player. It's a business at the end of the day, but I understand why we fans see things the way we do.

What is the future plan for player wages? If we are now looking at cutting the wages across the board and not willing to pay them top wages then there’s a possibility that if any of our young players turns out to be any good then they are going to jump ship at the first sight of a pay rise.  Not saying we should have paid Mount the same as Utd but he isn’t the only player who wanted out.

Yes the money in football is ridiculous but the simple fact is that the best teams pay out the biggest wages and the best players command the big wages.

We are now heavily relying on young players, I very much hope it works out but I’m a little worried if I’m honest.

As for Mason, I liked him as a player and didn’t want him to leave but he’s not going to be massively hard to replace.

I’m not really too fussed about this, never really seen him with a fire in his belly, was always joking around and messing about if we won and also when we lost. Pretty sure this personal offer from Man U was on the table months ago and didn’t even give a single f**k after that. These are not the players we want, we want winners, ones that fight for the team, fight for trophies, fight because it’s part of their DNA, not players that only fight for cash.

Wouldn’t surprise me if he plays a few games then loses his place in the team, then again I don’t think he’ll mind that happening too much either. Up to £300k a week for 5 years……

I fully support the club reducing the wage bill and basic wages.

However for it to be fully accepted by all it has to be applied across the board. Meaning the likes of Sterling, James, Kepa etc need to take a pay cut or be sold.

I agree in principle but maybe let's wait a bit and not risk pushing out the only 3  experienced players we have left

I'm sad, dissapointed and excited at the same time about the news...all these departures, especially Mount come with a price. We gain something (chance for a reasonable wage bill, new exciting energy, finally going away from the subsequent iterations of the same dysfunctional attacking system) but lose something at the same time (Cobham graduates with emotional bond with some of the fanbase, probably  chance for top 4 next season, experienced players with good albeit fruitless passing talent...and of course N'Golo)

Such is life I guess. Let' support the new era of this club. There is a vision, just quite a risky one. And very different from the one Abramovich had.
