January 13, 20242 yr I was at the game today and I had an eye on Broja infact I watched him so much people around me must have thought I was a scout at a championship club. If that's considered an acceptable performance for a Chelsea striker our standards have dropped so much we're in real trouble.

January 13, 20242 yr Thought he was a bit better today but he’s just a couple levels below the required standard. If a replacement cannot be source in the window I’d like to see us try a false 9.
January 13, 20242 yr Broja was next to useless today, barely effective in any discipline. Needs games and time, but don't really see anything so far to believe he'll become a first team player when everyone is fit.

I think he can hold the ball up well, the problem is that he never lets it go early enough. Too often our players get the ball stuck under their foot.

January 16, 20242 yr Wolves after Broja - apparently Gary O Neil wants him on a loan with option to buy. Can't say I'd be happy with that unless it was an obligation to buy. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2024/jan/16/wolves-target-chelseas-armando-broja-as-pochettino-continues-striker-search

We should be pushing for a permanent sale and wish him well at his new club. I'll drive.

January 16, 20242 yr If he goes out on loan that is it for his Chelsea career. Ain't no better time to break through than right now. If he doesn't, it is curtains.

Aside from that drivel, I am of the belief this injury has harmed his both mentally and physically and he will need some time to get over it. I don't think the PL is the right place for him to do so, if we want to keep him and see if he gets over it a loan to one of the top Portuguese sides for 18 months could do the trick. Has for that fellow thar went from Coventry to Sporting.
January 17, 20242 yr Would probably be smart to sell him if we can for a good fee. I am personally willing to give him a season at least more so he really can find his stride.
January 17, 20242 yr Nothing should really be considered until the summer unless we bring someone in this window.

Certainly can't rely on Nkunku getting (and staying) fit. If there is any truth in this, then either somebody is coming in, or alternatively there is some new found confidence in Deivid Washington or this new arrival Dujuan Richards.
January 17, 20242 yr Rather wait till the summer, if we do end up selling him i hope we put in a buyback.
January 17, 20242 yr Joe Cole was waxing lyrical about Broja pre match against Fulham. He said West Ham were after him because he's a really good player. His performances this season have left a little to be desired but he is still only young and he's been out injured for so long. Perhaps we expect too much at this stage.

We don't need the funds now. I don't believe we are looking to do big business this window whereas deals like Halls 28mill coming in the summer will help our summer business and FFP for next season. Broja goes on loan, we get a loan fee and his lower wages cover, and probably put in a 25-30mill fee to buy him, possibly including a buy back option. Broja is clearly still not right, he has a lot of physical upside to him but he cannot play close to 90 minutes or risk injury. Maybe away from Chelsea he can recover better.

If a club is that determined to buy him, and he would like to go, it would be smart of us to demand a loan with buy obligation for the summer, like we did with Hall. Loan fee around 3-5mill, if it is West Ham I would ask at least 30mill set fee for obligation, preferably higher. Adds to the FFP kitty in the summer. I still believe in Broja. Great attitude, pre injury all the physical tools you could ask for. After it though I am not sure of he gets back his full power and pace.
January 17, 20242 yr Just now, DidierDrogbalala said: I wonder how much the club is asking for him, between 22-30 millions? No idea but my guess would be 25-35mill range depending on clauses.

Perhaps we expect too much at this stage. I think that would be a valid argument if Broja had actually been impacted by his injury rather than just being the same poor player he was pre injury. We'd never have considered Signing him after how little he showed on loan at Southampton. The expectation is high because it's always high at a top club and Broja just isn't talented enough to meet those expectations but there's no reason he can't have a good career at a smaller club.
January 17, 20242 yr Don't like the idea of selling even if we can't get a replacement at all. Even if purely from a numbers perspective, our bench has been light all season. Pessimist in me says that we need to raise some FFP funds and Gallagher has ruined the owners plans by becoming an important part of Poch's set up.
