Edouard Mendy to Chelsea!

I’d expect he is a stop gap and then we’ll be in for another keeper over the next few years. Expect a few mistakes playing out from the back but as long as he stops goals it’ll more than make up for it.

Definitely seems to be a stop gap but with potential to surprise. Caba is going to be 39 at the end of this month, we don't want to be in a position where we need 2 new keepers next season.

This signing screams of another Drinkwater, Zappacosta, Emerson or Bakayoko type player to me.  Must be very hard to secure a good keeper with the funds we have remaining.

Today negotiations on between #Chelsea and #Rennes for #Mendy. They are very close. Agreement to be reached around €20M.
The deal is almost done. 👍
Edouard #Mendy is the first choice for Petr Cech and will be the new goalkeeper for #CFC. @SkySport

I'm very excited, can't wait to see him come out and claim a cross 😂 I still hope Kepa comes good but Kepa's potential skillset is completely different anyway.

Someone post the it’s happening gif...or are we not that excited?

I'm excited. For few days I believed the sum we paid for the 'Kepa' would stop us from getting his replacement and the embarrassing processing of admitting we were wrong, but we are a club of business and we are proving it this window.

It's quite interesting to go back to that and read from the start.  Other than a single comment, you have to go pages and pages before the mood starts to turn.  In fact, a surprisingly large number of pages.

What I like about the pictures I’ve seen of Mendy is that he uses his arms when trying to catch/save. Simple things but stuff you need to do if you want to at least try to prevent a goal.

20m Euros is good enough to keep us going and challenge Kepa this season. If we are still struggling next season we can hopefully get Kepa off the books and go big on a known keeper with Mendy staying as 2nd choice.

Buying Mendy means Kepa is the main man 'till he fumbles.

I think Kepa will start the season as first choice.

But first whiff of the dodgy form he showed last season and Mendy will be straight in the line up.

Hopefully He Will Be Good For Us, If/When We Get Him, Haven't Seen The YouTube Clip Or Seen Him Play For Rennes So Just Don't Want Another Repeat Of A Kepa Situation

Lampard was quick to drop Kepa for a washed up Caballero but will pick him over his/Cech's keeper choice? I struggle to see that.

Don't understand some reactions in here.

Just because he cost only 20M doesn't mean he's sh*t. Lots of excellent players were bought for 20-30M before they became GREAT.

I am sure he's a better keeper than what Chelsea has right now between the sticks.

Haven’t seen much to really give a strong opinion on him. He seems to have mixed reviews. I guess his height is an advantage which would help with defending set pieces and crosses.

at least this gives us another option if kepa starts to mess up.

If spending £20m on Mendy helps to turn Kepa into the quality of keeper that we were expecting for our World record fee, I suppose it will be money well spent. If we sell Kepa we will lose a lot more than £20m of our investment. Therefore if spending £20m saves his career at Chelsea  by forcing  him into improving simply by having Mendy as competition then surely this must be a good thing. Lets face it, Kepa and Mendy as the 2 keepers is better than Kepa and Caballero.

But Lampard showed from February he was prepared to drop Kepa and it hasn't proven to be a kick up the arse, if anything he's got worse!

That's why I think optimism is nice but it's also good to reserve your judgement.

I'm very excited for Kai Havertz but I'm trying to contain my excitement a bit and see how he gets on first, you have to keep those emotions in check incase sh*t hits the fan.
