Spending years in the academy as a young lad doesn't automatically give a player leadership capabilities. The armband has to be earned by showing leadership, not by hoping he'll have what it takes. Let him settle in first and get used to our senior level without burdening him with the captaincy.

Since he signed for Chelsea, he has arguably been our best and most consistent performer, leader, and consummate professional.

However, I am beginning to wonder if it is time to change things and revert to a back four.  If we don't have the confidence to play Silva in that formation, then so bet it.  We aren't get enough out of 70%+ possession from our back line, and no matter who we play, teams still walk through and take their chances.

I'd like to see a change for the future - it could backfire, but results wouldn't be any worse.

I agree.  Won’t be popular with everyone, bearing in mind we have zero experience in the team, but for me Thiago is the instigator of the “sssllllooowww” play.  Great defender, but my god, does he slow things up and I’m convinced that slow plays rubs off on the rest of the team….

He does slow things down unfortunately but still looks our best defender. it’s a risk taking him out of the time for long term growth but there is a few mistakes creeping into his game so he’s not as undroppable as he was. 
 

Not convinced the back 5 is played to protect him either as he’s looked fine in a back 4 for Brazil or any of the times under previous Chelsea managers. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s to protect the two rookies beside him , who have both looked quite poor at times this season.

Really? I see it exactly the opposite way round. He often looks to break lines with his passing and even attempts lofted through balls fairly regularly for a CB. He's not the kind of defender who just passes to his CB partner or the fullback.

Holds the ball on the half way line a lot though. Can't remember what game it was but must have had it at his feet fot a good 20 seconds while the opposition were just happy to sit.

Yes. Witness his frustration when no one in front of him offers themselves. He gestures, he pleads. And, when he's finally given an option, he's one of the best distributors at the club.

Yeah I agree, maybe he sometimes holds the ball for a bit but that's when he's looking for options, because he doesn't just want to play it sideways.

Honestly, just give the ball to Enzo. I refuse to beleive there are no options when he has two CB's next to him, two wingbacks out wide and arguably the best progressive passer in the league right in front of him.
