That is why most big clubs employ a football director who is responsible for these decisions. Take Bayern for example; Salihamidzic is the football director, and in his 4 year stint they have had 4 managers. Any manager coming in has to follow his vision, and work with what they are given.

Tbf apart from the odd identity crisis with Scolari and AVB we have largely kept at a similar profile of manager in the long term.

All the managers between Jose 1.0 and Conte (bar the former two above) all had principles not a million miles apart from eachother, likewise Sarri, Frank and Tuchel since we changed to a more modern approach.

So what does TT do? Play him and send the message this sort of behavior is acceptable? Or drop him and leave his highest earner and one fit center forward out at a crucial time?

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Either way TT is screwed here.

Am not too sure on Tuchel. Principle wise; “maybe”,  but if you sign players for a 4-3-3, and a new manager wants to play 3-4-3 it becomes an issue. The 3-4-3 formation requires loads of players especially in the WB areas to make it work because of wear and tear. Conte made 12 signings at Chelsea, and 16 at Inter, 3 years later we are still loaning out these players and can’t get rid of them. This created problems for Sarri & Lamps when they switched back to a back 4.

Having a football director would have prevented this mismatch, as he would have informed Tuchel  prior to his appointment he has players for a 4-3-3 and that is the template he needs to follow.

Lukaku will still fetch upward of 70 odd million so won't be so bad if he is sold.

His comments really do make his position in the team untenable. Silly boy but not the brightest. More fool the club for thinking his attitude had somewhat changed.

Who would buy him though?

To be candid, I am not happy with Tuchel about this 3-4-3 formation he uses. It worked last season. Yes, and it's okay, if it's not working this season, then you get a good formation that is good for the team.

We could get our money back from the New oil, Rom would get a pay rise, and we get Haaland, win win win.

There's only a handful of clubs that can spend these kind of amounts on a single player, especially in the current financial climate, I can't see any of them spending it on someone like Lukaku.

You cannot seriously think he would be willing to go to Newcastle? His giant ego won't allow that.

They would make him the highest paid player in the World, that would feed his ego aplenty.

Him having made it clear he wants to go back to Inter is not excactly helping either.

Best we usually get from Italian teams are loans fees plus option to buy. Marina and Roman are probably pissed off aswell as everyone else.

Not enough to go in to a relegation battle.

But we could always test the waters.

If Inter would take him back our best bet would be getting a couple of players in exchange imo.

They will spend crazy next month and probably stay up, then buy more players, Howe will promise Lukaku he will build the team around him..........

But in reality were stuck.

Apparently what Rom was referring to with the system is what we tried and failed with against City and scraped past Brentford with. A 3-5-2.

Like Inter with someone taking the Matinez dirty work role, like this:

Mendy

Chalobah

Silva

Rudiger

Dave/Pulisic

Kovacic

Kante

Mount

Alonso/CHO

Lukaku

Werner/Havertz

It's all just so typical of man isn't it? Always running his mouth, always thinking he is the dogs bollocks. The only thing I am surprised about is how soon this has happened, I thought he would have at least waited until the end of the season.

We should never have bought him to the club. I don't care how desperate we were for a goalscorer, I don't want players in the squad running their mouth to the media. All this kind of thing does is cause rifts in the squad and brings unwanted media attention. Instead of talking about preparation for future games, the media will start pestering Tuchel for his opinions on Lukaku. I hate this kind of sh*t, we have seen a lot of it at this club and it never ends well. The media are poison, and Lukaku bought that poison back into the club.

You're a 28 year old who has one major trophy under your belt and people talk more about your awful first touch and ghosting on the big stage than anything else. The next month is packed full of tough games, so what's it going to be? more ghosting? because if that is what happens, then I would be happy to never see him in a Chelsea shirt again.

You’re doing it again 😂

I think there’s a middle ground where Tuchel has a stern word with him, we see another interview somewhere soon in which Lukaku has magically changed his mind. he plays and scores more goals. We forgive him.  Tuchel isn’t screwed.

Werner hasn't trained since he caught Covid, apparently, so can't see him being in contention. Is Jorginho unavailable or do you just see Kova as a better bet to face the Scousers?

Looks like Covid has affected him badly. Not sure when he will get his lung capacity back which was his main trait.

Werner trained today, though I agree he I far more likely on the bench. Jorgis back was giving him real grief vs Brighton and he is also knackered. He needs time off.

Nonsense story, out of context, he was trying to appease Inter fans he upset when he left and interview was given a few weeks back when he wasn't playing.

Air will be cleared today.

I wondered if I was the only one that viewed it that way.
