We shouldn't be waiting for anyone.

It's been said before but surely you contact the player through their agent, ask if they wanna join Chelsea, they say yes and we bid, they say no and we move to the next target. I don't understand this bullsh*t bidding for players who aren't interested in our club.

    Latest info suggests that Barcelona have asked Kounde to be patient and wait until they have offloaded De Jong before they go back for him. He may not join them until next summer. I assume Sevilla are OK with being messed around like that as they may now have to contend with Kounde staying for another season knowing he is off to Barcelona afterwards.

    Either way looks pretty evident the player is set on Barcelona and has been for a while. In which case move to other targets.

    I agree with your sentiment. But. . .

    . . . but that is not how football clubs operate or any business's.  I mean lets not get into knee jerk reactions.  As Tony Soprano said "Revenge is like cold cuts".

    Revenge is best served cold.

    What the hell is FFP? Why are Uefa and Fifa allowing Barcelona to operate like this? Oh yea, Corruption. Barca is still dreaming of Euro Super League and that is maybe the only way they will ever survive financially. As supporters we can make sure that Super League never EVER happens. So we have some say there. Maybe. 

    The word is out. Barcelona is in trouble. The Clubs are circling. They may get by this season, but where will they be 5 years from now?

    Best revenge would be to buy the club, asset strip it, get them relegated a couple of divisions, and then close the doors for good ... 

    But in the meantime we shouldn't *not* sell them Azpi and Alonso, as why cut off your nose to spite your face ? We need shot of that pair, and we aren't exactly flush with willing buyers ...

    I can understand people's feelings when they insist on us walking away from a deal when the likes of Barcelona get involved and complicate things for us. From an emotional point of view I get it, it's about our pride being hurt but this is business and all withdrawing our bid would do is just make things easier for them. I couldn't care less about Leeds/Sevilla getting more for their players but it matters to me that Barca are forced to shell out more. We forced them to spend significantly more on Raphiha than they were planning and if Kounde ends up there they'll have to pay close to what we offer. 

    As for waiting,  I doubt it's that straightforward. The clubs normally work on several deals simultaneously, so waiting on Kounde outcome doesn't prevent us on working on other possible deals.

    The reason fans get upset over transfers is because they trust people who work outside the negotiations. No transfer is done until one of the clubs come out and publish it. So don't trust anyone, let time tell. 

    Anything that happens between a start of a saga and end of it might all be massive bullsh*t.

    Don't believe it myself. I think Kounde will be a Barca player shortly.

    However just for the sake of argument if Sevilla still get their fee it would make sense to have it on next seasons books as they have covered the needed sales already this summer.

    The most surprising and sad thing about this thread now is the number of people saying things like we do not know what's happening, Barcelona haven't made a bid, and such similar rubbish. 

    On one hand we are criticising club for how they go about their business but such hopeful sentiments being expressed demonstrate some of us will handle it similar to the club if not even show a much higher level of negotiation acumen of a very low level. 

    It's even worse that Barca have not made an official bid and the player has still not signed with us who have had a bid in since last week. 

    Why do this to yourselves. Forget about Kounde, instead let's think of a way to get our voices heard. I mean people in America now at the pre-season tour (fans) have hinted Boehly is accessible compared to Roman. Can some people not sow seeds about how displeased fans are about how we are letting other clubs wipe the ground with our rep? 

    As for Azpi, I repeat of we sell him or Alonso at all after all this we are stupid. It's not about him declining and best to sell as he won't offer much or him being unhappy. It is the principle of it. 

    God I'm no man utd or red nose fan but imagine Fergie being in this situation and at least 4 entities not being blacklisted (club, agent, player...) 

    You get no where behind nice, especially in Business. Roman could afford to be nice because he never saw the club as his Business but  if Boehly doesn't get his Business head on immediately, I fear for our future.

    Apparently Monchi played a key role in stopping Kounde coming here. He was left annoyed with our former owners with how the transfer collapsed last summer as Sevilla always maintained that was our fault, and he has been left as unimpressed with the new owners that Kounde was even in London early in the hopes a deal would be agreed only for us to target several other defenders before returning to Kounde. Monchi took that as an insult and he has not forgiven it.

    That is why Sevilla have never given us the green light and they have encouraged Barca behind close doors. 

    Explains why Barca agreed a deal instantly over a weekend and we still don't have a deal after 2 weeks.

    Kounde was open to both moves, we did not face Barca in a fair fight more one that Monchi made us a last resort if his talks with Barca failed.

    Even if all this is correct  we were the one that allowed Monchi to be a super star. We could have ended this charade two weeks ago with our dignity intact. This is not the first time clubs will explore other options before going for their targets and if Monchi feels otherwise..fecck him. We should have just taken a walk. Marina would have  taken that walk 3 weeks ago... We are Chelsea.. we don't bend over backward for anyone..  it was not like we are buying prime Ronaldo or Messi.. just a bloody average RCB. Monchi played Clueless TBo like a banjo using him to ensure Barcelona pays a huge amount for Kounde something they wouldn't have done if they were the only ones in for him. This debacle 100% is on TBo... Doesn't know sh*t about transfer windows yet sacked the pple who know before learning...  He dragged our dignity and honour tru the mud

    Barca are a bigger club than we are and their attractiveness to players simply dwarfs ours. If they want a player we're in for then that player is almost certain to choose them. It's just a football fact. No point getting ourselves worked up about it. Board needs to stay calm and avoid overspending on average players just to 'get someone in'. As everyone here knows, and most have posted about over the years, that approach has been a major contributor to bringing us to where we are.

    The situation is not great but it calls for calm heads and careful, well thought out, decisions.

    Man City did have that reaction towards Napoli after we got Jorginho. This has nothing to do with the other club which in this case is Barcelona, it’s about Sevilla being super bad towards us and basically playing with our bids while preferring to sell their top rated defender to a La Liga rival.

    This transfer with a normal club would have been done already, I have no reason to compare us to Barcelona but how Monchi acted throughout multiple transfer windows is a clear indication that we shouldn’t even be in contact with that club and that wouldn’t be an overreaction at all.
