We can't blame the club for trying but we should expect them to move on once the runes have been read. For all we know this is exactly what we did. We doubtless were in touch with all of the player you listed to assess their interest. My reading of those runes is that we never had any encouragement from De Ligt, that Dembele strung us along as part of his game with Barca, that Deco told us that Raphinha wanted to Barca but that we'd be considered if that move couldn't happen, and that Kounde would definitely have joined if Barca didn't intervene.

Agreed. All but those who are essential should be moved out of the first team group even if they can't be moved out of the club.

Laporte and his team are experienced people who, I'm sure, have crunched their numbers. On top of that they must have a strong grasp on the power of FC Barcelona and how that means there will always be a strong will around football and financial authorities that the club must not fail.

    There is no doubt, that Boehly and his Clearlake backers, will have learned a huge amount from their first month, dealing with underhand, corrupt liars like Barcelona and Sevilla. We can hope that they will now "grow a pair" and start to be far tougher, more ruthless and above all, make sure at the outset, that the bloody player does actually want to to play for Chelsea. They have been left with egg on their face, Chelsea's name has  been dragged through the mud following the Russia Ukraine war and they have done nothing to improve things by adopting a weak, almost subservient position with all of their transfer dealings since arriving. It's time to wake up and smell the coffee Todd, just because you are a nice guy who conducts himself properly, does not mean these Spanish gangsters are the same !!

    Agree Boehly is too much hands on with all the deals, he had some success but when it's stalling, it's really stalled. We got to the point where Tuchel had to whinge about it, and he doesn't usually whinge about people running the club. Getting rid of Mariana was premature, whether she got the deal done or not it's one thing, but we would have got an answer straight away and moved on one way or the other.

    Chelsea had contacts today with Directors and agents around Europe to explore potential new CB options, on Sunday as we said they tried to hijack Mukiele but the player had already given his word to PSG so he wanted to honour that. (@FabrizioRomano) #CFC

    My sentiments exactly. There is no way in hell that Kounde and Rapinha would hold us to ransom while Barcelona rally round to gather money. We would have taken a walk longest time with Marina in charge. And as for those saying players get more attracted to Barca than us... This is not news we all know who ranks above who in each league but we have the right to walk away from any deal if we felt we are been used. Westham just walked away from signing Broja.. West ham is not a bigger club than us in world status.. but they have their dignity and took a walk from the Broja deal when it did not look viable. That is what we should have done with these guys.

    Simon Phillips, the guy that told us not to take Barca sources too seriously even though Barca sources were bang and owned Matt Law etc.

    I think we should have walked away from this atleast 2 days back when we didnt get a response within 24 hours.. i mean who is Joules Kounde.. really who is he.. are we saying he is better than VVD ? Barca or no barca we shouldnt be begging players to come here.. we kind of did that with Lukaku and look where it landed us at.
