Trevoh Chalobah

Featured Replies

I’m not going to be as harsh as others for that winning goal. He’s not entirely blameless but he doesn’t do a lot wrong either.

As a CB you are coached to cover your partner in those situations in case he gets turned which is why it looks like he’s standing there doing nothing.

If I’m the CB there I would be furious that my midfielders didn't track back quick enough.

That’s just for the winning goal though, he didn’t have a good game in general.

Total rubbish here from Chalobah.

"They tried to disrupt our game"

What is our game? Playing at a snails pace? It's really not hard to disrupt NOTHING.

"In the first half we had chances, in the second half we were creating"

0.08xg......now I'm not one for overly focusing on stats like this, but in what world is this creating? I fear for our players at this level if they think we are creating a lot of chances. We barely made the keeper work, something that is very often the case.

"One switch off at the end"

Again, rubbish. You were switched off all game, the entire defence was. There were many times where Sunderland were close to pinching the ball off us because nobody was switched on. I remember right at the end of the first half, James lost the ball near the half way line, and if it wasn't for the ref blowing for half time, they were through 1v1.

Doesn't really fill me with much confidence when players can't even see a terrible performance when it happens.

Said it before and I’ll say it again, we haven’t got a single top quality centre back on our books. Thiago Silva now at about 63 years old would walk into our defence and even players like Alex would be head and shoulders above what we now have. David Luiz on a bad day would be our best centre back. Papa Diliboji would maybe have a fight for his place.

All that said, with Maresca in charge, even John Terry would get maybe one game in every 3 or 4 for reasons nobody could understand.

The lengths people go to to protect that bozo is beyond me. He isn't good enough for us and he was 80% to blame for the second goal, that's the reality of the situation.

Hmmm, I wouldn't classify Chalobah as a bozo. He's not a Golden Ball contender, but on the whole he's been pretty solid for us. I don't have a heart attack when I see his name in the line-up, and that's all I can ask for since two or three years.

Every game Trev seems to do something that costs us or almost costs us a goal and today it caught up with him. It almost happened earlier in the game where he tried to turn an attacked and lost the ball. He shouldn't be starting for us in the prem because he just isn't good enough.

I agree. He thought he was playing for Forest last week as their number 10. But also a bit like Valerie says, he isn’t the name that induces the most panic from our odd collection of centre backs.

Part of the problem for me is the extent that the manager is messing about with the personnel at the back.

In our last 6 games, he's rotated the right back every game, had 5 different centre back combinations (player/left vs right position) and kept the same left back once.

How are we expecting any of our defenders to play well as a unit with this level of churn ?

Factor in the full backs consistently going AWOL thanks to Maresca's obsession with having them everywhere EXCEPT at full back ... and we are where we are !

It's insane thinking. There is no chance to build any cohesion and understanding with that level of tinkering.

He shoudnt be starting. Hopefully get Fofana alongside Josh soon. Trev just has a lapse every single game that always costs us. He also doesn’t defend with any real authority at the back. Was at his best alongside an experienced Silva, but we’ve seen his ceiling.

That has nothing to do with his professionalism, which is right up there. We just need more from our CBs than he can offer across the full 90+ minutes.

The late subbing of Acheampong knocked us all over the place, it was monumentally dumb. You could see both CBs had no idea who was doing what as Tosin just wandered up the pitch.

I’m curious to know what you think he should have done instead?

At best he could have maybe held his position a bit further forward so he could have a better chance of covering the passing lane but that doesn’t warrant an 80% blame.

If Chalobah goes straight towards the ball to help Tosin it gets cleared straight away and there's no danger because there's no other Sunderland player nearby, but instead because he has no awareness of his surroundings he puts himself in a position where he is of no help to anybody. Of course the other players going at a snails pace to get back doesn't help, but Trev had a chance to pour water on the situation right at the beginning and he didn't.

both are equally sh*te.. Tosin was always sh*te - should be no where near a top team. cant tackle, marking is ok, heading is heardly above average, cant run, cant pass, positioning is dire. Unfortunately Chalobah has become similar..

This is the story of Chalobah's career so far. He has periods where he looks really good and puts himself in a position where you want him playing game after game, then there are periods like we have seen this season where he struggles to have a single good game.

Tosin and Chalobah have both let themselves down this season. Neither of them were world class last season, but they were at least competent, but this season, they just look awful. Badiashile's one game against Liverpool is better than anything these two have produced this season.

I think this is spot on: Trev is alright at best. He’s a nice back-up to have, and shouldn’t be the first one out of the door. We’re longing for a class centre back, and have been since both Rüdiger and Christensen left

Exactly right.

If we were being run to be competitive for a title or CL we would have signed a top partner for colwill AND a competitor for him.

Like Arsenal have hincapie and mosquera to back up Gabriel and saliba. players who are not as good as them but still very good defenders.

At best chalobah should be 5th in line, brought in only if 3 of the other 4 cbs are out

Hincapie was there waiting for us and had even had an audition at the Bridge in pre season. Massive lack of ambition and intent from these owners during the window.

We wouldn’t have been able to register who ever we signed without getting rid one of Disasi, Badiashile or Fofana first.

3 crocksh*t CBs.

Iirc though I thought there were clubs sniffing around Disasi. Especially the way the likes of that "brown envelope" Yannick was going on about 3 or 4 clubs were interested in him. Lol

I guarantee you if Chalobah is part of arse cb pool, you would think that he is great

No logical defender is doubling up on a pinned attacker and leaving a huge gap in the middle of the box, its just basic stuff.
