Conor Gallagher

Not sure I agree with it being "the end-all" in terms of workrate with Gallagher out of the XI. Nkunku isn't some bum off the ball. He was crucial in Leipzig's intense gegenpressing with him spearheading it at times.

Also, in the argument "who will run?"

As of November 9th, Gallagher's average distance covered per 90 in the Premier League is 10.2km.

Nkunku at Leipzig averaged 10.5km.

Interested in the distances for the rest of our squad if you have them Sconnie !

I don't. Took this off of a SkySports report. What's interesting is that even with Gallagher, we are one of the worst sides in terms of overall distance travelled.

As of Nov 9th, these were the players with the most distance travelled after 12 Premier League matches.

1) Bruno Fernandes – 126.24km
2) Christian Nørgaard – 126.10km
3) Abdoulaye Doucoure – 125.48km
4) Dejan Kulusevski – 123.73km
5) Vladimír Coufal – 122.53km
6) Conor Gallagher – 122.43km (10.2km per 90)
7) Bruno Guimaraes – 121.92km
😎 Dominik Szoboszlai – 121.35km
9) Bryan Mbeumo – 121.25km
10) Philip Billing – 120.30km
11) Declan Rice – 117.99km
12)Jarrod Bowen – 115.95km

On average, Nkunku averaged 10.5km per 90 the 21/22 Bundesliga season.

Vic...

think the international break came at the wrong time as it always does. certainly killed some momentum.

Silly to get a second yellow but you know what, saw a stat on Gallagher - Tackles Attempted 58. Successful Tackles 39. https://www.infogol.net/en/player/conor-gallagher/43185 think I saw this on sky and it was in the opposing half....

glad he boot the boot in on gilmour, a player Ilike...  who I think would help turn the ball through the defensive lines quicker for us. but not up for CFC shelling out 50 million.

Think Gallagher is going to be a class act.. I see his name on the team sheet and I know he'll bust a gut and that's infectious on team mates. I hope he carries on leaving a boot in too. We need nasty in the mix as for years we've had a soft underbelly and bullied.

People are really quick to write players off or forget very much in the transition phase we find ourselves in.

14 goals in the last five matches. we just need to tighten up at the back a bit and we'll start getting more results... not sure if its a case of dropping silva, who's been good, and seeing if younger legs works better. Think we really need to look at the Keeper too.

But Gallagher, few more goals and assists wouldn't go amis but pleased as punch he's still with us and not sure an observation on how someone plays is over the top. Gallagher has a guilding style when he looks in form around the pitch. More 25 yearders please.

I might go a bit overboard but I don't change my view or opinion after one game, I've been saying this all season that I don't think he's good enough to be starting every game. But I will agree he's probably been more consistent than Enzo and definitely Caicedo but I don't think he's done anything outstanding outside of being a workhorse. I would say he's been our poorest performer in most of our losses and draws which have come against lowblock sides.

What i've liked about Palmer is how good he is on the ball and how he can pick out a pass so easily, something I think Gallagher is miles behind at. Oscar was a workhorse as a CAM but he had more to his game than that, I just don't think Gallagher offers enough going forward. But people have summed it up in this thread much better than I have. Phil at the top of the page summed it up perfectly really. We'll just have to agree to disagree, of course I want to be wrong on this, I just don't think I am. I genuinely believe the sooner he's on the bench more the better our football will get. But FWIW I most certainly wish he wasn't unavailable for next game, the United match is a game I definitely would've picked him for.

Think we should give him a chance - when we find a striker with a bit more upstairs he'll probably look a better player... stupid challenge but not half as stupid as RJ's red.

That's a pretty good argument and probably why Gallagher keeps starting games. I feel that as a team we need to get better at defensive transitioning, which I think will come in time as players start to gel and get used to the system more. But we can't just keep playing someone as a CAM simply because he runs around a lot, we need better in that position.

It all depend on what balance do you want from your team. This is  the most important thing in football.

A very good example is United.

United is just a mess. It has never been about De gea, modern football, or Maguire, bla2.

It is because the balance of the team is just crazy. United attacker doesn't want to defend. That is fine so somebody else need to run and they need to run a lot and fast. But the manager want to play tippy tappy ball = 😭😭😭

Of course it is easy when casemiro, a wc destroyer is there but once he is gone. The whole  thing collapse.

So you are saying our players are lazy in comparison to most other sides?

Could be a fitness issue still. I know that Poch was meant to be a disciplinarian and the team would be super fit, but I don't really see evidence of that. Are the yellows wnd reds for dissent and/or poorly timed late challenges for not being fit enough and up with the play.

This side still lacks sustained drive and intensity. This game management is a bit of a fallacy, especially when it is exhibited by taking the foot off the gas when leading a game rather than continuing to press and drive home a bigger result.

Are these yardage stats evidence that the team is still not yet competitive at a fitness and energy level and are simply not doing the hard yards?

Could be a whole load of reasons. We could not be working as hard or we could be working smarter than most clubs, whereas they are running for the sake of running.

Just something I brought up to compare Nkunku v Gallagher's work rate.

Agree. Now let's say you want your 10 to be better technically but he won't run and chase like gallagher. That is perfectly fine.

Now who will do the running? Will Palmer run? Will sterling run? If they don't then can Enzo and caicedo run?

I think today's showing illustrates your point well. Pretty sure he will be straight back in the starting lineup on Sunday and rightly so. If anything it may be Caicedo who has to make way when Lavia gets a start.

Caicedo is fine. Lavia is not known to be a defensive guy though

Stop saying Caicedo is fine FFS! You have a different definition of "fine" to the rest of us!

To be fair that plot graph does suggest that there is basically zero correlation between overall distance run and how good the team is.

Wonder if any of the posters who don't rate Gallagher are having a re-think after last night?

Not saying if he had played the result would have been different but we missed what he brings to the team and that midfield last night was as poor as I can ever recall watching Chelsea.

He at least brings commitment and effort. Sometimes too much of it admittedly. But we could do with a few more players showing some commitment. And by commitment I don't mean picking up stupid yellows for kicking the ball away or arguing with the ref.

Very predictable. For FFP we are going to sell players that bring in the most funds, and the homegrowns are going to fall into that category. On current form this is only going to weaken us as far as I can see.

Makes sense why there has been no contract on offer. Club will try and cash in while they can.

The thing is, beyond Conor, Trev, Broja Maatsen…who else is there from the academy that will actually raise that much money? We’re running low on sellable assets.

Conor had been one of our best players, to sell him now would be insane! Circus act!

Wave one will be some of, it not all, Chalobah, Gallagher, Broja and Maatsen. Trevs injuries may stop his move.

Wave 2 I think will be Trev and Colwill imo.

Lastly James.

It’s a disaster.
