December 11, 20232 yr Newcastle and Spurs wanted him before, and I would expect they still do. We won't be short of takers for Conor, and with him being a regular I can see us getting close to 50mill for him, and probably 60mill for Broja, Maatsen and Trev combined.

December 12, 20232 yr Yeah, you know the board have not idea what they're doing when they consider selling one of the better players in the squad. Theyre obviously not watching closely and won't even listen to the manager who wants him staying and is presumably one of the first names on the team sheet. Bonkers if he goes, bonkers they won't consider a shorter term contract, if this is what is the bone of contention... We'll miss him.
December 12, 20232 yr It's all about profit, and quick profit. I mean good luck trying to make a profit on anyone we purchased in the last 18 months, unless the Saudis came calling again. When we do sell, for god sake not to Spurs🙄
December 12, 20232 yr Conor is a life long Chelsea fan, from a Chelsea supporting family. He won't be happy .

We are an asset to a hedge fund, a vehicle designed to make them and their investors money. As I feared We would be when this Clearlake bid became the front runner. The important people don't care about football or the football team being successful imo, they will find ways to bleed us for profit like the Glazers have with United.
December 17, 20232 yr Good game today… the number of ball recoveries was ofc the charts.. people talk about Caicedo as Kante.. maybe CG is that terrier..
December 17, 20232 yr He’s won me over. His energy is exceptional but no goals so far is a concern. We’ve invested lots of money in every position he plays so I think he could still be moved on at the end of the season. Tough call for the manager and the player. Hes probably going to cost £10 million more than we were offered last summer so it would be daft to sell an improving young player. His worth to our balance sheet will probably be the reason he does get sold especially if it allows us to sign a goal scorer. It just shows the mess we are in right now with the size of our squad and the aimless recruitment.
December 17, 20232 yr I believe Conor and Caicedo are very similar players. I don't believe we needed to buy Caicedo, as we have Conor who can do the same job. What's done is done, and that will lead to the owners selling Conor, imo.
December 17, 20232 yr Just offer him a better contract and get it over with. If he's a Brighton player, we'd paying 80M plus a big fat contract for him. So how about we just pretend he's NOT one of your own, and gives him the deal he deserves. We don't need another change just for the sake of it, or some FFP profit.

He might not be the pick of the squad ability wise but he more than makes up for it in other areas and is still a very decent player to have as an option. Would have been unforgiveable to sell him to Spurs, just days after he wore the captains armband. Hope he stays for many seasons to come. If Chelsea even give a seconds thought to selling Conor Bro', I will genuinely give up. This would prove that money is more important to the Owners than pure effort and loyalty and that would be the end for me.

I can't see Reece holding down a guaranteed first team place for much longer and there will be clubs out there who (wrongly) think that they will be able to prevent him from getting constant injuries
December 18, 20232 yr Selling a player the manager is desperate to keep is never, ever a good idea. At least if you intend to keep the manager.
December 18, 20232 yr I'd love to know what contract offer is on the table for Conor. It must be lowball offer for him to be dragging his heels in signing it. 4 of our top ten earners are currently on the treatment table (James, Chilwell, Fofana, Cucurella,). Another one (Nkunku) hasn't kicked a ball for us yet. Malang effing Sarr is on £120K a week if you believe the figures on Capology, and he also features in the list of our top ten earners. Capology list Gallagher at £50K a week. The manager just selected him ahead of Enzo, who is on £180K a week. https://www.capology.com/club/chelsea/salaries/ Maybe we should simply stop offering contracts with daft wages and have Thiago Silva's £110K a week as our top benchmark, as we seem to get very little value for money when paying any more than that, and it sets a contract re-negotiation expectation with the lower paid squad members that the owners are seemingly not prepared to meet, even when said players are performing better than most. December 18, 20232 yr Starting position - I like Connor, and there should be a place for him in our squad. A blue who loves the club, and a player who always tries.... ...But he is not in my opinion a player who has enough quality to be a starting player for us. I know he is at the moment - but that is due to the poor performance of the rest of the team and/or injuries to others. So the question becomes, how much do we fight to keep a player who a) is probably not good enough to build a team around; b) has 18 months on his contract; c) has 100% pure profit should we sell him. It is a really tough equation and conundrum. I would understand if we sold for 35-50m. Wouldnt like it - but would understand.
December 18, 20232 yr I think the club position is clear here. They tried to make him move to Everton last January, he refused. They were listening to offers in the summer, and again are inviting them this January. Now he has played regularly this season his value is up so they may get both the price they want and a club Conor is willing to go to. The club see Conor as a means to make pure profit.

I agree that he shouldn't be spearheading our midfield but we've already seen some matches where Gallagher is tailored for. Those scrappy battles where we need more presence in midfield. Palmer isn't doing that. Enzo isn't doing that. Nkunku isn't doing that. I'd like to believe the club will offer him a new deal but given the club's current state, I anticipate Gallagher being the next victim to make way due to the misguidance of our squad building. Which is annoying because you can genuinely see Gallagher doing well at either Spurs or Newcastle, so if that's the case may as well rinse them for him.
December 18, 20232 yr A great example to the academy lads. Work you arse off, go and success on loan, come back to Chelsea and work even harder to prove you belong and become on the the standout performers in the whole squad and one day you too may be used to balance the books because of a bunch of unnecessary kids being signed who aren't half as good.
