There has to be two players in front of the attacker it’s just one is normally the keeper.

The offside is checked from a player second to keeper. Which is weird.

Nothing to do with a keeper. Offside rule is two players between receiving player and the goal line. Just so happens a keeper is normally one of them but doesn't have to be.
