Massively harsh suspension in my opinion.

How exactly is it harsh, he knew the rules, the rules have an expected ban, he broke the rules. f**king idiot deserves it.

The thing is, I would imagine that with all that spare time and disposable income, the majority of players will bet, but will do it in a way where it can't come back on them. Toney was just silly enough to get caught, so on that basis it does seem harsh. Do Brentford have to pay his wages whilst he can't kick a ball for them?

The depressing part is even with an 8 month suspension he'd still have a more positive impact on the team than the majority of our previous strikers.

Morata
Falcao
Pato
Pizarro
Higuain
Batshuayi
Kežman
Mutu
Rémy
Lukaku
Joao Felix
Aubameyang

8 months, nearly a whole season, for placing bets on games he had no involvement in? A sport which is ran by gambling company sponsorship now deems gambling a worse crime than violent conduct, he could have beaten the sh*t out of a player and gotten a less severe ban. Hell it's only a month less than Cantona got for kicking a fan. He obviously deserved a ban but 8 months is over the top in my opinion.

Its just moronic to be ton the one thing he isnt supposed to. Theres loads of sports footballers can bet on, just stick to them.

He knew the rules, and knew the ban that comes with it. It doesnt matter if its more or less than any other ban, it is the rule and it is the ban. So no one should have any sympathy for him.

Your not looking at the bigger picture. It is not the fact that he had no involvement. There is things that happen behind the scenes. Imagine for instance he placed money on this and that player to score an own goal and Toney (or his entourage) being a millionaire, offered that player incentives on the outside? Unlikely that it would happen, however it is not beyond the realms of responsibility. If they did not offer severe punishments on this then, all other exploitation of the game can happen.

The number of bets he done was excessive as well. Also he knew the rules regarding betting as well. Not as if the rules were made up after he did the bets which is another thing as well.

It's the fact that it's not that much of a development from betting on other games and match fixing in your own games. There has always been a heavy betting culture in football that the authorities have been trying to stamp out because of the likely escalation into match fixing.

Leading the race for a January signing. 80m.

Christ almighty. Our owners are batsh*t crazy enough to do it too.

£80m for a 28 year old gambling addict with 1 good Prem season and who hasn't played for 6 months.

Jesus wept - leave the bloke at Brentford to get his fitness up and see how he fares for the rest of the season - make sure the ban and the addiction haven't taken its toll... if he still looks the real deal then make a move in the summer. Madness to do it in January.

Put to bed now the whole argument that at least he didn't bet on games he was in. He put 13 bets on his own team to lose in 7 different matches between 2017-2018.

IDK how many of you know a gambling addict, but this bloke has an addiction. Need to steer well away.

And, most recently, tried to suggest that the charges against him were part of a conspiracy to keep him out of the England team. His history is of an addiction and this isn't a step in a healthy direction.

We could have bought him for peanuts about the same time we bought Lukaku, and he still would have been a better signing, even with the gambling/ban baggage.

@Munkunku at 80m would still have been a better signing than Lukaku, plus he's got a catchy name worthy of a true goalscorer... ah what could've been... 🥲

If he had been on the market this summer pretty much every top club in the prem would have been after him as we all need a striker. He would have went for big money. Now he comes back and starts scoring again, which is likely, were all still looking for a striker and next summer he will be wanted by all again.

We will then get moans about why didnt we get him in January when he was available as we miss out on getting him.

But he wasn't available in the summer because he's a gambling addict who's gotten banned for 8 months.

As for January we've no idea how his addiction and subsequent ban will have effected him.

Do you see now?

Liverpool fan who also likes Arsenal. Do we really want that in our dressing room? ;)

Hope we are preparing a bid for him in January.

I like Jackson and Broja but neither are ready to lead our attack week in, week out. And with our injury record we need strength in depth.

Toney is EPL proven. A monster physical presence. Good in the air and knows how to finish.

Really not sure there’s much truth to this, he doesn’t fit the profile we seem to be after. An outlay with not much chance of making any more back later. Plus over 25.

I dont think we will be in for him, it depends on how well Nkunku does when he gets back from his injury.

Depends on what Poch wants really, the talk is he wanted more experience, especially prem experience, and he's being given a much bigger say in transfers going forward.
