Raheem Sterling signs for Chelsea

Featured Replies

Finally a bit of luck went his and the team's way, usually after missing that first shot, the defender would have cleared the ball, and we'd be swearing on how poor his touch was. He's not a great finisher, but he does get into scoring positions a lot. Now we finally have a good passer from deep, think Sterling will score  a few more before the season ends.

Had a thought this morning so did a little digging. Sterling and Lampard have actually played together for England, during the last 28 minutes of the 0-0 dead rubber against Costa Rica during the 2014 World Cup:

might explain his great faith in Sterling (which I do not share):

Sterling is the only attacker we have that plays direct and can shoot a ball more than 2mph.

I have no idea why he was even dropped in the first place (Did I miss an injury?), yes he's not been up to his usual standards but he at least makes things happen.

He's been played out of position imo but still, think he's just been poor all around.

My position with Sterling is almost identical to what it was with Pedro during 15/16.

Deserves the benefit of the doubt for now given the state of the team and how we've not been playing to his strengths (the one time we have in recent months was Dortmund and he had a very good game).

Oh how I wish he was even half as good as Pedro. Pedro was a seriously underrated player, he was class for us.

Sterling is for me in the Koulibaly bracket, happy to get that last big, long term deal before their careers close out, medals a bonus if it happens.

Not in 15/16 he wasn't (his debut aside). It was just short of my time here but where I was I was getting laughed out of the room for thinking he would come good.

Fair enough his first season I don't remember so much as his overall time with us.

Still though he was adapting to a new team and league, leaving his boyhood club. Sterling should not have needed such adaption.

Quotes comparing to Pedro are quite accurate. Both can't dribble past players, both struggle to control the ball.

The difference however is that Pedro was like an excitable puppy - always seemed happy to be out there and seemed to give his best. Raheem however always seems like he would prefer to be in the tattoo parlour getting another ak47 inked onto his skin, rather than put in a shift and graft for us.

Rumours doing the rounds that Todd targeted Sterling in his dressing room dressing down of the squad.

Sterling was the star singing of the first window. England international, multiple winners medal and given a contract second only to Lukaku in wages. Apparently Todd went right after him.

If true for me depends concerns about our owners.

Like the blonde woman in Indiana Jones and the last crusade, Roman chose poorly...

Sterling should be singled out, his performances lately have been a disgrace. He's one of the most experienced and accomplished players in that dressing room, high profile, now a senior player, signed for high wages and a big fee. He should be doing much better and demanding more from the team.

However, unfortunately, I think Sterling has a big victim complex, I can only see this getting worse now that he's getting criticised from the owner, we'll wait and see.

I am glad someone is putting a rocket up the ass of our players. It is odd that it is Todd - but fair play to him for having the balls to do it.

Sterling is not fighting for the shirt. And that is not good enough.

Bring back Timo!

To be fair I dont think it is his fault. He just don’t fits the style we trying to play. As with all of our attackers previously they all do well. In Arsenal team he would have been good. Same with Auba, Lukaku, Werner and Kai on the right position.

maybe we should go for Mane Sadio 🤣😂 he fight alright for the team and with the team. Bayer will sell him this summer. And as always Todd will try to buy him again. Or maybe swapdeal with Lukaku(unlikely with Tuchel) maybe Aubameyung. But if Tuchel keeps on losing then he won’t stay there for long 2 win 1 draw 2 loss.

I've never really liked Sterling since his Liverpool days, but we're clearly playing to all his weaknesses at the minute. We've got him picking up the ball 40 yards from goal and expecting him to take two men on, he never has and never will be a Hazard. Get him on the end of low crosses and in behind 1v1 and he'll finish. Play him RW with a recognised ST in the league and stop leaving him exposed on on his own against two CB's.

We should never have gone near the deal, same with the Aubameyang & Koulibaly deals. In Sterling’s case firstly  he isn’t a leader;  so when the chips are down he will never step up to the plate, or try & uplift the team. His issues are a mentality one; he has gone from a team competing yearly to one rebuilding, mentally it must be difficult to process. A parallel can be drawn with the Willian move to Arsenal, where he has gone from a winning culture to a team rebuilding. Arteta had the foresight to bin him after the first season, and Willian walked away from a £10m payoff. I just don’t see anyone at the club making the call, or Sterling walking away from a £45m contract.
