August 27, 20223 yr He likes the number 3 but Alonso is still here and seemingly we can’t ship him out. Number 2 or 4 available though.

Original posts didn’t compare the proper players anyways, should have been: Koulibaly is an upgrade on Rüdiger Fofana is a (clear) upgrade on Christensen
August 28, 20223 yr Beyond the current back 3 need and clear upgrade on AC, if we are to move back to a back 4, this is a great move. James Fofana KK Cucurella Play that out 2 years with: James Fofana Colwill Cucurella (Not dismissing Silva, just thinking long term). Edited August 28, 20223 yr by PhilH930

Silva's ambition was to come to Chelsea to stay on form for the Qatar WC. He has been nothing short of majestic throughout his time here and he and his family have bought into Chelsea from day one. We need to honour this guy, preserve his minutes and keep him topped up for Qatar, not knock his bollocks out fighting hairy arsed PL centre forwards. I would be gutted for him if he got an injury now two months away from realising his project.

I personally haven't seen anything yet that puts Koulibaly ahead of Rudiger. Christensen on his day could be world class. When Tuchel first came in and after we had won the Champions League, fans were begging for us to get him to sign a new deal because it looked like his game had gone up a few levels. It was midway through last season that he started to revert back to being inconsistent. Fofana has a lot of potential, but at this moment, that is all it is, and I don't think anybody can say he is a definite upgrade on Christensen until we start seeing him play in a Chelsea shirt. If he is going to perform like he did against Arsenal a few weeks back, then I think people will start having doubts.
August 28, 20223 yr @Scott Harris I wholeheartedly agree. I think people underestimate Rüdiger and Christensen because of Lamps' first season, but both have shown to be very good defenders in a Chelsea shirt before that. Rüdiger was pretty good in his first season under Conte and our best defender under Sarri, and while Christensen had struggled ever since his mistake against Barca, the level he had shown before was very promising. And ever since TT came in, Rüdiger was spectacular and Christensen was very good until the whole contract saga messed with his fragile mind. Koulibaly was very good for Napoli and has shown promising signs so far for us, but he has some ways to go before he can be declared an upgrade on the Rüdiger we've had for the last one and a half seasons. And Fofana is talented, but Christensen at his peak was a very good defender who was severely underrated by many here.
August 28, 20223 yr How anyone can ever rate Christensen is beyond me. Just because he looked good for about 12 games prior to the Barca f-up and had a little chat with Pep, post match, in that run when City beat us at the Bridge doesn’t mean he was any good. Remember, he was in the middle of a back three, that in the previous year made Luiz look world class when before then, the pundits all thought Luiz was s***. The point being that in conte’s system, the middle of the back 3 is piss easy…. Any centre half is an upgrade on Christensen, shocking defender…..
