#3 at Leicester ... I wonder if he'll take #3 off Alonso or perhaps go with #2 or #4 vacated by Rudiger and Christensen ?

Good luck Wesley !

Is this potentially a better signing than De Ligt I wonder ? Time will tell ...

I reckon he will take 2 or 4 since they’re open

Fee aside, this is a fantastic and absolutely necessary signing. Watching Dave yesterday was painful and with an aging Silva not being able to play week in and out this guy will get a lot of responsibility. Hopefully he’ll help sort out our deficiencies on defensive set pieces as well.

I’d also say that the fee is less crazy after the Antony transfer. Happy that he’s not joining us with the extra expectations a world record amount would have led to.

With our record of signings and performances, excuse me for not having any enthusiasm for this signing. Can he really be good enough to cover for the other defenders, midfielders and keeper when we take on the likes of Leeds and Southampton? And I wonder if he can score 20+ goals a season too.

To be honest our defensive signings have always been good it’s the other end of the pitch that we struggle with big money signings

Very good signing of another PL proven player after Sterling and Cucurella. Too bad we missed out on Tchouameni. If we'd signed him too then it would've been just about the perfect window.

Tchouameni would have been amazing but it's not over we might just sign a DM still.

2 years ago we could have signed him for 35mill. He proved immediately he was PL ready.

Our scouts should all be sacked.

Reality is he would not have got the game time.  Cucurella would have struggled also, despite Chilwells injury.  It is not an acceptable thought given how well other clubs do with lower priced talent, but Chelsea is ruthless.

I'm still hopeful Colwill comes thur, and we can play a back four of Cucurella Colwill Fofana James one day!

Ah but if we scout them properly and buy them when Leicester/Brighton did and then loan them to a PL club for a year or two we devleop them that way.

We are trying with Carney, Casadei and Solenia but I would like to see them loaned to PL sides who will play them. We need to be signing these players who are good enough to start for Leicester, Brighton, Villa etc and then loaning them to such sides to develop for us and save a packet. At least that is what I would like to see us doing.

Loan approach makes sense.  While from our academy, it will be interesting how Gallagher this season and Colwill in future seasons fare (different from signing top talent at lower fee, but looking at end result).

Just a question. How many of us here would've deemed them good enough in the first place and not want to send them out on loan if we'd signed them last season? It all looks very good when these players perform but you need to trust them and give them a chance to see what they can do. Heck our scouts did unearth gems like KdB and Salah but our management didn't deem them good enough at the time!

The sad fact is most of us want the finished product instead of taking chances with young talented players like Tammy, Tomori and Lamptey. Heck what does Billy Gilmour need to do to get a proper run in the team ? What was wrong with Levi Colwill that we send him on another loan ? We were and are f**king too attached to the big names, reputation and price tags of players like Jorginho, Havertz, Lukaku. Had they come through the academy most of us wouldn't have deemed them good enough.

We'll keep playing premium prices in the market because we don't bother developing players and want other clubs to do the hard work for us.
