July 8, 20224 yr I think Ake is being signed as a back up/rotation player, I still believe the club will sign a more top class defender like De Ligt or Kounde. According to Romano, Tuchel wanted 2 defenders.
July 8, 20224 yr 40m for Ake is a total waste. Maybe use that money to secure the few quality options out there like de ligt ?!
July 8, 20224 yr Chelsea have full agreement with Nathan Aké on personal terms. Man City are aware of the situation on the player side, but still waiting to receive the official bid. 🔵 #CFC City want around £40/45m for Aké and plan is to replace him with a new centre back in case he leaves.
July 8, 20224 yr Aké is a good player for us because he can play in 3 different positions LCB CB and LWB he's a good defender, he's an improvement on Christensen imo
July 8, 20224 yr Author There you all go. Long been cried out on here for a new CB after losing Toni and AC, and qe have one who has agreed to join us as qe are in the process of agreeing a fee for Ake at around 45-50mill. Hope that makes this place a happier place since we are signing a defender. I expect @Term_X must be overjoyed, he has very much been pushing for us to sign a Dutch destroyer.

We got £20 million when we sold him to Bournemouth many years ago and he's a much, much better defender these days. Totally agree Sindre. A lot better than many on here are giving him credit for. Sheesh! You'd think we were signing David "can't defend to save me life" Luiz. Again!

Versatility is big reason we are signing him. The best route for this would've been Chelsea having the foresight to not sell him originally, or buy him back from Bournemouth, and not let City buy him. But, of course, every one of those decisions were made by completely different people running the club now compared to then. I'd imagine that Ake would not have been a target this summer if the whole Russia-Ukraine war didn;t happen and Roman wasn't sanctioned.

He then played a lot of football for Bournemouth and he went to City for 45.3 million euro (didn't we have a sell on % clause?) where he was part (played 40 games) of one of the best teams in the league. And now we basically can buy him for 40 million pound as an experienced and versatile PL defender. Net Spend on him would be around 20 million pounds for a player with 169 PL games under his belt. if we would have kept him on a 70k a week contract for those 5 years he has been gone he would have cost us 18 million pounds in wages (although usually the loan club will have to pay those wages, but we would probably have to give him a new contract and up his wages before sending him on loan otherwise he would have left on a free when his contract runs out) Edited July 8, 20224 yr by azpi28

Ake's stats don't reflect his performances against decent opposition because he's always sat last on the bench in those games if he makes the squad at all. Pep choosing to use his actual good centre backs in those games.

July 8, 20224 yr Is there someway we can warn Todd he is making a big mistake buying city's number 4 defender. Depressing 😢

The only thing that makes me happy is that Ake is an LCB so technically we can still be in the race to sign De Ligt for the right side (one can live in delusional hope).
July 8, 20224 yr I've only been impressed by him as a DM but that ship has sailed. I think his level is similar to Ampadu so we can save £40m right there.

July 8, 20224 yr Not sure what the thinking is with this one. The only thing I can think of is premier league experience, which to be honest he hasn’t had much. Surely someone with European and international experience like Koulibaly would be better. I’m still hoping he’s just a backup defender, but even then it’s too much money. Versatility wise we can use Colwill and Chalobah for defensive cover, Gallagher for midfield cover, just by a cheaper left back no need for Ake.

July 8, 20224 yr statistically he's better in the air than Rüdiger Rüdiger get's dribbled past twice as much per 90 as Aké he also get's dispossessed 0.14 times per 90 while Rüdiger is at a 0.53 per 90 which is very poor while their carrying stats are similar, also Aké has not made a mistake that leads to a shooting opportunity, Rüdiger has Rüdiger miscontrols the ball more often than Aké he intercepts much more passes just trust TT, otherwise 40 million for a experienced back up who can play 4 positions is not that much anyway not saying he's better than toni but TT likes his statistics Edited July 8, 20224 yr by azpi28

They are going to make around £150 from selling Sterling, Ake and Jesus, they can find two world class players with that money to greatly improve their squad. It wouldn't surprise me if they quickly jump in and grab De Ligt. Edited July 9, 20224 yr by Scott Harris

We will effectively be signing City’s 4th choice CB as a starter, because he wants to play a back 5. He is bang average in a back 4, and if Tuchel was to leave/get sacked the next manager will inherit an average CB on massive wages. This is why we struggle to move on our duds because their wages are ridiculous. Guehi and Fofana are better CBs, are on half his wages and will probably cost what City are demanding for Ake. But hey the manager gets to chose his signings right?
