June 24, 20224 yr De Ligt is at least a bit more of a unit for a centre back than the diminutive Kounde. Kounde, Silva (and Sarr who we are stuck with) would be three very short centre back options for the modern game ... which is at least one too many, if not two. Personally I quite like Silva, De Ligt, Chalobah and Colwill as our 4 main centre back options ... plenty of height and ball-playing ability in that quartet. Having 3 of the 4/5 CBs as 187cm plus would be great for aerial ability at both ends of the pitch. If we keep Ampadu for a 22/23 centre back option, he is also barely 6 feet ...

June 24, 20224 yr There was a lot of hype about him at Ajax, but didn't he fail to live up to expectations at Juventus?

Reports before today said Juve want close to the release clause and 90mill would get it done, whereas Sevilla want about 53mill for Kounde. Do we blow three quarters of a budget on 2 CBs? We we can get both for £120m combined, that leaves 80 mil in the estimated kitty, plus whatever can be raised from other sales. I would be ok with that. £120m on those two £40m on Sterling The rest + player sales on whoever we can get in the CM spot. Werner upfront as our undroppable number 9. Job done

June 24, 20224 yr Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt is Thomas Tuchel's main target in defence this summer. Jules Kounde is seen as more of a club target for #Chelsea, with Marina Granovskaia pushing the move. [via @Nathan_Gissing]

June 24, 20224 yr First contacts between #Juve & #Chelsea has already taken place. The Blues have asked for information for #DeLigt. Juve’s position is clear: there is the will to arrive at the renewal, but a signal from the player is needed. Without it, new scenarios may open up 👀🇳🇱 @Goal

I think height is a very valid point about Kounde, although it doesn't matter so much on the right side. We have to have one strong tall player who can be expected to manage opposition long balls and corners. Silva despite his height is actually excellent in the air but he only has a very little while left. He is already the oldest player in the PL, has been injured before and is hanging on for the world cup. Someone like De Ligt makes far more sense than Kounde as a foundational player. Central defence first the wider players after. Of course we need both but the one comes before the other.
June 24, 20224 yr Can't help but feel that Juve aren't going to drop their price to a point where we'll pay it. Him and Kounde would be fantastic signings in my opinion but De Ligt's release clause is massive
June 24, 20224 yr #Chelsea are ready to offer Timo Werner and €25-30M for Matthijs de Ligt - Juventus want more. De Ligt and Werner are both keen on moves. [via @Nathan_Gissing / @DiMarzio] This would be ideal.
June 24, 20224 yr #Chelsea will only offer a maximum of Timo Werner and €40-45M for Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt. Talks ongoing. [via @Nathan_Gissing / @DiMarzio]
June 24, 20224 yr Really good news if true, a way better signing than Kounde (who has an operation and is arguably too short for the prem), not to mention it gets Werners wages off our books (as much as I like his effort he's not worth what he's getting paid).
