Chelsea in America (US Preseason Tour) 2022

I didn't know there were pens and switched off. Feels like as a Chelsea fan I've seen us win less than 10 shootouts in my life. Throw England in there as well and the number probably doesn't change.

We should sign cr7. Without a happy and capable Lukaku, there are no goals in this side. We are back where we were 14 months ago. We are gonna struggle big time.

Hard to disagree really. We will probably have a few games where everything clicks and we look great but it's hard to see us competing for the title with Havertz up front in my opinion. Far to likely to disappear in games and lacks consistency.

Although Havertz was useless in this game, barely touching the ball and stuffing up his one touch in the penalty area it wasn't his fault in H2. Charlotte pressed hard and we couldn't play  through it consistently.

What was most frustrating was seeng us get through about 80% of the press and then passing back to get caught again. On other occasions we meaninglessly hoofed the ball forward like a scottish rugby team.

Are fans really thinking we can win the PL? Still have us 10pts+ behind City. I think the problem is more structural & formation than personnel.

As for Ronaldo; we are more likely to drop out of the top 4 than compete with him in the team. There is a reason every top club is avoiding him like a virus.

yes - but he is not a striker.. he is a second striker at best.. We are spending and investing to play a 3- 4- 3 which i believe has been found out and unlikely to give us the results we want..

I am not sure that it has been found out

You put Fabregas in this team you will think that suddenly Tuchel is a genius at improving player.

I am not sure about structure. Tuchel is one of the best tactical manager around, our structure has been very good under Tuchel.

It is just our football is very pragmatic. There is huge emphasis on taking little risk, not losing the ball and not being countered. Hard to argue with result but it can be very difficult to watch.

Chelsea have a new website...   https://wecantwinonpenalties.com

Tuchel says 'we want to be the team that no one wants to play against' - well if that's the case we'd better buy some decent players or change your tactics mate, because right now I have every confidence that we will be struggling in the first half a dozen games of the season.

I clicked the link 😱

I wouldn’t read too much into these friendlies

seems like we all have to pretend we are happy to be in America while in reality it’s awful and impractical

i would rather go into the season apprehensive and be pleasantly suprised than be like arsenal who can win some games in meaningless friendlies, fans are becoming delusional and they choke in the games where there is any pressure

In this two man midfield i doubt Fabregas would have thrived.. we simply need more people in the midfield in my opinion..

I say we have been found out because in the last 15 matches our results have been - L 5, D 3, W 7 - our win rate is less than 50%; the fact is that these tactics arent working havent been working for a long time.. First we said Lukaku is the problem - now noise around Havertz has already started.. We have said CP, CHO, Werner, Ziyech all are crap so lets get in sterling - lets c how long b4 we start saying he is a has been too.

Fabregas forced his way into for Conte double pivot didn't he.

Our problem offensively is that we play slow conservatives football hence we need player individual ability to help us break defense. One particular area where we struggle the most is finding player in the box/dangerous area. This is the are where Fabregas was elite.

A lot of worry about our offense next season. IMO It will be better than last season because of sterling.

I said many time here if at least two (really pushing it) preferably three out of cho, Ziyech, mount, reece, kova and sterling (maybe Gallagher will be in this list but we'll see) play we should be fine.

I expect our starting 11 to be

Sterling - Kai - Mount

Chil - Kova - kante/Jorgi - james

We have 4 creative player in this lineup so we should be fine most of the time. The problem lies when we can only field 2 of them. Can we expect our non creative player to step up to give us more juice offensively ? Last season give us the answer.

We couldnt hold on the ball in the second half ( once Jorginho and Kovacic went off at HT), that's where we fall apart. We were not great in the first half, but because we had so much ball, we were able to create chances, second half we were relying on individuals to do something, not breaking defence down. So if Jorginho and Kovacic go missing at some parts of the season, we are going to suffer the same fate as this game. Is it too late to keep Gilmour or he's gone, get De Jong?

It doesn’t really matter, but has Mendy ever saved a penalty, or got near one? 6 penalties in total, not even close.
Gallagher - oh dear!

He did save one, can't remember who it was against where the penalty taker shot the ball right at him.  But that was not a shootout.

Honestly I think we should use Kepa for the shootouts but Tuchel dumped him from that spot after losing the EFL cup on pens.

I am pretty surprised that we could not beat a mid-tier MLS team.  Even though they are mid-season and we are in pre-season mode.  Every single one of our players should be better.  Most of our players make in 2 weeks what the average MLS player makes in a year.

Least Boehly was there.

Left in a hurry to sign a couple of attacking midfielders, a striker or two and about another 4 defenders that TT wanted

And that Bob, hits the nail on the head. Unless we get a creative midfield player we are going nowhere, no matter who's up front or out on the wing.
