Apparently not The sign of things to come for a few of these FFP freebies from the academy i reckon. Chalobah, CHO, Gallagher, Broja. All could be game.

August 16, 20232 yr Seems the owners are more interested in acquiring young talent from abroad, and selling our home-grown talent for profit.

Think it's part of the long term strategy. Pure profit for the club but selling Lewis Hall for 30 million would be madness. That's not a lot more than we paid for Ugochukwu.
August 16, 20232 yr Would be a shame to sell him but we have these academy graduates teams are willing to pay £30m which is pure profit which helps with the massive spending we've done recently to overhaul the whole squad. Realistically it probably makes sense to sell one of Hall or Maatsen from a financial standpoint as difficult as it is
August 16, 20232 yr The problem here as well is that we are just churning this kids for the FFP value. People will say that these Brazilian wonderkids and the youngsters that we are signing from europe have got solid CVs of competing at a senior level and youtube clips to prove it. I don't wish it to sound too home biased but it is a fact that the drop off of quality in some of these foreign leagues is far far steeper then here in the PL. I don't want to single out someone like Kudus becuase i would actually like us to sign him but Kudus plays for Cleaning Solutions and is now being touted for a big money move. Looks fantastic and youtube clips of quality abound, especially in some of the domestic games. The team that came 8th in Eriedivisie last year was Heerenveen. Transfermrkt's valuation of Heerenveen is €28m, 2 internationals, transfer record €3m. 9th in our league last season was Brentford. €364m, 15 internationals. The depth and strength within our league has made it undoubdtedly difficult for our academy players to get first team experience. Some go out on loan which can be a mixed bag as they still belong to the parent club so might not even play regularly. There still remains a difficulty for them to develop a resume of quality experience that would help them develop. As we dig deeper into the bag of homegrown talent for 100% FFP profit sales they become cheaper and cheaper as there is less of a resume to support their price tags. Essentially, in my drawn out way, i am saying that we run the risk of buying the brightest young thing from South America for €40m when they are playing on little more than park pitches whilst letting our own academy lads go for the same money simply becuase they haven't had the exposure. If we were a buyer and not a seller and if he were Louis Salle and not Lewis Hall, we would be buying him for double what we are selling him for.
August 16, 20232 yr Loaning him out will be the better option IMO, if he does well we can either keep him. But then again Idk how the Chelsea accounting books currently look so they might be forced to sell. Sucks he's for sale but a lot of people are acting like this strategy is brand new, we did the same thing under Roman's regime where we brought in multiple foreign talent to compete with academy products and whoever got through got through and whoever didn't was sold/loaned for profit. Remember also the FFP free hit is there always. Levi Colwill has a great season next year and Badiasile also does really well, so we have cover inthe position, Levi could well be on his way if we are being offered 100m. Sorts out FFP for the whole of the next summers window

If the rumours are true that our FFP equation only got us so far for Caicedo and we had to move Kepa along to ease the transfer through, then he'll be sold surely. We still need a striker and arguably another goalie. If we can sell Hall, Chalobah and CHO (and possibly Gallagher), it could get you both.

Agree it's nothing new, the academy is there to train youngsters for a professional career and sell them for profit if they don't make it into our own team. Selling our own after we've seen them play in our senior squad squashes the romance of it all a bit, though 😢 PS Please not Hall.... Edited August 16, 20232 yr by Valerie

We should have subbed the job out to the Brighton recruitment team for a commission, because with us it is more like Bu88er Hall than Lewis Hall
August 16, 20232 yr Disappointing. And hard to understand when you see £62 million quid poodle-head raking in big wages whilst hardly being good enough to sit on our bench.
August 16, 20232 yr It's not like there isn't a pathway either given the rumors Poch doesn't rate Cucurella. Just sh*t all around.
August 16, 20232 yr This is bullsh*t. Hall over Cucurella every day of the week. There is so much more potential there and Cucurella is a disaster waiting to happen every time he plays. I thought I remembered them saying there needs to be a pathway for the young players to get into the senior squad, but all I see is us looking to sell them all and replace them with other clubs young players. Edited August 16, 20232 yr by Scott Harris
August 16, 20232 yr I do actually think that if they could sell Cucrella they would and take the FFP hit. Just part of the overall wage restructuring and the value for money. Same with Sterling possibly. Problem is all of the others in the market see what we see as well! He's not good enough for a team taht can afford him, Newcastle for example. He's too expensive for a team that he is good enough for, West Ham for example. Sadly Hall ticks too many boxes
August 16, 20232 yr Just now, Sconnie Blue said: Maybe Poch doesn't rate him? Can't see it. He is blind if he doesn't see the talent in Hall. Pochettino doesn't give the impression that he would miss something so obvious. This feels like a consequence of paying so much money for Caicedo and Lavia. I just don't like that it's Hall that we are sacrificing.
August 16, 20232 yr If you'd watched any videos of Hall at left back for the development squad last season then you'd bite Newcastle's arm off for £30m ... he really wasn't very good !

Sorts out FFP for the whole of the next summers window Why does it have to go to the extreme? Going from selling a player who's played a handful of games in a position he doesn't even want to play in to a player in Colwill who our manager and board have entrusted to become one of the best CBs in the world, not to mention we had a chance to sell him this summer already.
August 16, 20232 yr 12 minutes ago, Sconnie Blue said: Maybe Poch doesn't rate him? In the pre-season Tour friendlies, Hall only had 74 minutes across the 4 games he featured in, so I'd say that is fair comment. Of the outfield players who were fit, only Burstow and Moreira played fewer minutes than Lewis.
August 16, 20232 yr This is such a bad idea, after such a good week as well. Credit where it's due for the last few days, but I did say I feel this board has at least one mad piece of business in this window and this would be it. And for £30m as well! Apparently he has already signed his 6 year contract and was there expecting a loan to Palace. £30m is a steal, and to a rival as well. Buying the best young talent and then selling off your best virtually cancels itself out. I know they see selling academy players as pure profit so in their eyes it counts more than a normal sale but from a sporting point of view this would make zero sense. We still have other players we could and should be selling before looking to sell off our best academy products. I was hoping the Mount sale was a one-off but this strategy is daft, surely a mix of buying the best young talent and keeping yours is the best solution? No wonder Brighton and Liverpool thought they had a chance with Colwill, everyone knows we are capable of selling ANY academy player. I'm just hoping the board come to their senses or the Chelsea Supporters Trust or someone who can have contact with the board can change their minds somehow. Edited August 16, 20232 yr by 2211
