You would hope he would have a bit more defensive experience in dealing with TAA and Salah. Are we talking about TAA or daniel alves? Sometimes I do wonder whether some of the poster here even watch football.

I am not even sure i understand that what this means. We are playing Liverpool this weekend, so regardless of the casting aspersions of other posters opinions, i am not sure exactky what point you are making. I would imagine that Lewis Hall would have no trouble defending against Dani Alves, as he is not playing against him. I am assuming that you are tryign to implay that Alexander Arnold is sh*t, which as a defender may well be a valid point. However in defendign against, both Salah and Alexander Arnold he may well struggle. Whilst i have great confidence in Hall's potential it is evident that he has made a couple of costly mistakes. As such Cucurella, as as strater, may well be a more sensible option in this case.

You don't need to watch the whole video just watch the 1st 10 assists. Pretty much all of them come from crosses or passes from deep area. Unless we are playing back 5, you will never see Lewis go up that high in defensive phase.

Again, I am struggling to understand the point being made. Are you therefore saying that Alexander Arnold never advances further than 30 yards from our goal, or never doubles up and works with Salah. If you read my post I made no comments on Alexander Arnold's ability at making assists and from where he might be crossing the ball. I have merely stated that, although Hall has had a pretty good start to his senior career, it would not surprise me if Potter opted for Cucurella in this game due to the attacking threat posed by TAA and Salah. It's all a bit moot anyway as nobody yet knows what team Potter is going to pick, so it renders the discussion pointless at this stage. And as for credentials, I am 58 years old and have been watching and attending football matches since I was 5. Been an active Chelsea fan since 1972, 20 odd years as a STH, including 2 Cup finals, old and new Wembley. Do I qualify?
January 19, 20233 yr I've seen TAA right up the pitch, in fact from memory he scored a famous goal from out near the corner flag. I am 68 years old and have been watching football since I was five and played at a low but enjoyable level until I was over 50. There are many experienced football watchers on this forum and there are many disagreements just the same. It's not unusual for "experts" to disagree. It's really about how much value you can add to the conversation. my perception is that everyone wants the young home grown kid to succeed at chelsea. But it's hard. to win the comps requires players of really high standard, which most of the time requires a certain amount of experience and then above that you have to play as a team and all good teams have a recognisable style. To my eyes Hall is probably going to be a very good footballer but he aint ashley cole just yet. He makes the runs but does lack some end product, he is a bit on the physically small side just yet and in defence the best players will regularly take him apart until he gets some more experience. On the plus side he has great attitude, a high level of fitness that lets him make the runs down the left, is very willing to go beyond the ball in attack and has excellent feet.
January 19, 20233 yr We should be aiming at TAA in attack, rather than only worrying about him in attack. Hes an abysmal defender, lazy at tracking and constantly out of position, get Ziyech or this new lad in behind him and we will have a field day.
January 21, 20233 yr Still very much in the learning stage of his career. He’ll learn from his mistakes and that you don’t get that much time on the ball in the Prem.
January 21, 20233 yr Have to have patience and give him time to learn. Is ideal Potter uses him in the league now. League season is over in all bit name.
January 21, 20233 yr I don't think he's a 6. Didn't look comfortable there at all. If he plays as an 8 that is a entirely different position and he may be fantastic there but not confident he'll ever be a good pivot player.

Agreed I didn't rate him at all today in fact glad he was subbed. just cos he's from the academy we need to be objective and realistically rate his performances

Agreed. I've defended Hall against some ridiculously over the top criticism over the past few weeks but he had a very poor game today and was rightly hooked. However he is clearly a bright prospect and I think he has a genuine chance of being a long time regular first team player given we are focusing on youth now.
January 22, 20233 yr I like his game as an overall package and he deserves his permanent spot in the squad but f**k me he's making Werner and Morata look like clinical finishers so far.
January 22, 20233 yr He's still young so he will get better but I don't think he's ready for a place in Chelsea's first team. I also don't think it's wrong to say he isn't good enough yet, just because he's 18 and academy lad doesn't mean he shouldn't be held to the same standard as the rest of the team. Next season we should look to loan him out.
January 22, 20233 yr I like the fact that he is staking a claim and I think that he has a good chance if he continues working. But surely I'm not the only one that notices that virtually every one of his progressive passes he fails with. On almost every occasion that he passed the ball forward yesterday he seemed to hit the guy coming to shut him down. I think he has potential but in possession for creative passing, crossing and shooting he has a long way to go yet. I know it's now frowned upon in some quarters but Lewis Hall does look like a lad that could benefit from a PL loan.
January 22, 20233 yr There’s definitely a player there. Just needs time to learn. He’s showed enough for more playing time.
January 22, 20233 yr I'm sure he has a big future at Chelsea, but right now he's still pretty raw. If any of the Zarkaria\Kovacic\Kante are fit, they should start ahead of Hall this season.
May 22, 20233 yr Thought he was great against City and deserved some praise. Not easy to shut down a player like Mahrez and almost setup Gallagher for a goal if not for Ortega with a great save. Once again makes Tuchel's signing of Cucurella even more draining.

One of the reasons he hasn't signed a contract extension yet is because he sees himself as a midfielder and wants chances there Cucurella's got little to do with anything in the long term.
May 22, 20233 yr Don`t really understand the praise. He looked very shaky defensively especially at the beginning and nothing special going forward either. He is only 18 years old and definitely a good talent but a lot of work is needed. Hopefully he goes out on loan next season. Then again Chilwell can`t stay fit so might be good to have a 3rd LB available.
