Nicolas Jackson - striker

Featured Replies

Strikers are hit and miss really.  You never quite know what you are getting. The thing is, I have quite a bit of faith in Pochettino and his ability to improve players. Also, 12 goals in La Liga at 21 years old is pretty good. Can't really compare Fofana who played in the Scandinavian league to a lad who has scored double figures in La Liga, which is arguably the 2nd best league in Europe.

I guess he wont really be the main man. Nunkunku is going to be the main man but not playing in the main man position. Still a risk but in the end risks do have to be judged and taken.

Damn, hasn't even worn a jersey and people are sh*ting on him. We're already spending big for Calceido from the looks of things, it makes sense to buy a young striker instead to develop with our other two.

I haven't seen any sh*tting, I see mostly optimistic comments.

I've never heard of him, but that happens a lot 😊 If he comrs, hopefully he can adjust quickly.

He does look quite pacy as well in those clips.

A fitter team with good ball winning ability in midfield and good passing range into front players like Jackson, Mudryk, Madueke, Nkunku, there could be some real counter attacking intent there.

One of the reasons I particularly like a counter attacking style is that the players take less time to think and therefore trust to their skill and instinct when shooting. Much better than the to you- to me - to you bollox we have had in recent years in front of goal.

This wasn't directed at anyone btw, it was mostly me thinking out loud in reference to Matt Law's comments

Agreed. Premier League teams will still religiously play low blocks against us though. Wonder how's Pochettino is going to deal with that

Looks like this is one happening. I hope the club know what they’re doing. The good news is that our buys since the recruitment team have come in have largely been pretty good.

Him and Caicedo share the same agent.

I think I read that Pochettino recommended him. Hopefully that means he will get proper development

The question is - is this guy our new number 9 or another one for the future to be sent to whatever Portuguese or French team Bohley and co decided to buy next?

Dunno, but we have Nkunku coming in so do we need another striker? There's also nobody out there apart from Osihmen or Kane, and maybe Vlahovic. Apart from those I'm not sure where else we would turn. I imagine we may try for Toney in Jan, but there's just not a lot out there unless we spend another £90m+ and I'm not sure the board want to splurge that much again on someone who could turn out to be a dud, especially given strikers can be hit or miss. Also, the striker needs to suit Pochettino's system so no point targeting strikers who won't suit us. I quite like the shrewder business we are doing, instead of opting for the difficult and big money signings.

Looks interesting. Not sure what he has over Fofana and Broja though.

If we end up with Lautaro or Osimhen as well then great.

If not, I'm not sure where we are headed as a club. Selling Havertz who is one of the most highly regarded young players in europe, and replacing him with another raw player, but with about a 10th of the profile, just seems like cost cutting exercise.

Why not just give the players on the cusp some reassurance, and build a squad to get the best out of them?

Only by people who haven't had to watch him for 3 years, Chelsea fans are pretty much unanimous in the assessment that he's sh*te. At best I'd say he's a player that isn't suited to the prem, he also isn't a striker really.

Hmm, have my doubts on this one.  It was stated before, but Matt Law on London is blue podcast was pretty blunt on Jackson - 0 goals in season before last, and a purple spell last year.

Ah all the delightful puns we will get to make if he signs and proves to be a decent goal scorer.

Or I guess there will be one or two of he is Bad, he's Bad, really really Bad...

Stats reveal he didn't start in 2021/22, made 9 appearances off the bench for no goals. He was 20. In 2022/23 he started 16 times, came off the bench 10 times for 12 goals and 4 assists. A purple patch or a young player developing? Who knows?

From what I can gather he looks better than both, especially Fofana who's hype seems to stem from a half (that wasn't even that good) against the worst team in the league.

I do admire his profile. Reminds me a bit of Anelka where he can play as an attacking winger as well.

At the price and age it isn't really a risk and hopefully Pochettino/the recruitment team see something in him.
