September 4, 20241 yr I think we're just pulling the old Fergie trick of withdrawing players so they get a rest / don't get injured. That's why Giggs only played about 60 times in 20 years for Wales.

I want him to do well for England but at the same time I want him to only take part in the actual tournaments and nothing else. Euros, world Cup fine. Nations league and friendlies then pull a sick-y/sickie (sp?). Edited September 4, 20241 yr by Simplymo

September 5, 20241 yr Sky Sports News are such Chelsea haters. Yesterday they was talking about the Ballon D’or nominees from the EPL. They said Cole Palmer got 22 goals for Chelsea then literally said Arsenal’s ’Star boy’ Saka got 25 goals and assists. Subtle differences that most wouldn’t even notice, but the reality is Cole got more goals and more goals and assists than Saka so they re-arranged the words to make Saka’s achievement sound better. I’m not even surprised by Sky Sports News anymore. Edited September 5, 20241 yr by 2211

Saka got 34 g/a last season playing for a title challenging team at its peak, Palmer got 42 playing for chaotic team that languished around mid table most of the season. It’s clear as day who is the better player tbh.

It happens with everything to do with Chels, not just player stats. It's highly likely Clearlake made a profit this transfer market if all the undisclosed finances were made public but they'll only mention how much we spent and not that we are in the black. How long did they continue to report a squad of 43 or 45 or whatever and how much disharmony and chaos is in the squad, when maresca has been telling them for weeks it's only 25 and they are in a bubble from the rest. Every club has a "bomb/loan" squad but because ours has 4 or 5 more ppl it's complete breakdown and world news! Each academy player sold or loaned out has its on webpage/link on sport websites, but nothing about man u, Liverpool and City selling/loaning theirs this season. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the media is the most powerful weapon in the world. And you can see that by how some of our fans even lose perspective at times and I don't blame them. How many football fans (not just ours) would have picked up on the play of words that you saw on sky? How many players, pundits, etc...? It's a tried and tested weapon that works. If wars can be started then creating issues at a football club is really not that hard, lol.
September 5, 20241 yr Congrats to Cole Palmer - amazing achivement to be nominated for an award so young, after his first real season of first team football. Take a bow son.

Yet that said, the club really don't help themselves. Constant hiring and firing of coaches, billions spent on players that aren't worth billions and yet still not spent on the positions where we are clearly lacking (striker and keeper). And then the treatment of players like Gallagher and Chalobah. Things like this - it is no wonder we have become so disliked as a club.

The thing is some of it wouldn't even be news if it was another club. All the other clubs loan groups train away from the main squad. And nothing about how clearlake lost around 20mil in transfer fees for Gallagher because they respected his wishes. They had already accepted 50mil from villa and spurs (high 40s for spurs I think it was). Imo for me, it's just about adding a little perspective and looking at it from a different angle. Yes we aren't the norm and yes we do find a way to create headlines, very rarely favourable ones but it isn't as bad as it seems. They (owners) managed to achieve the first part of the model in making money, let's see if they manage the next bit and "raise" a squad to be competing at the top in the timeframe they said (we should supposedly see progress in yr 4 apparently). News rgdn Chelsea requires a lot of salt, a pinch is never enough.

While media is a useful weapon, dont think that we're a target. Our chaos sells and generates through traffic, clicks, views... It is simply that CFC have been one of the most successful clubs of the past 20 years. Everyone takes a swing at the strongest in life, even when falling. It's pretty similar to the change after Furgesson left Old Trafford. The media tore lumps out of the club, it still does to a lesser degree than us, its just past success is measured against the lack of it currently and ridiculed. Not a fan of the current set up, said its bonkers and stand by it, but we do appear to have signed some pretty interesting talent, luckily or not. Palmer has been the biggest success of our scattergun approach. I dont mind the headlines, good or bad, its part of the entertainment, but I do care about what happens on the pitch.

Of course you are correct the club doesn’t help themselves at times and TBH there are a few things IMO they have done wrong, but the media’s job should be to report the news not make the news by sneakily changing the wording of facts to elevate a particular club or player and show another club or player in a negative light. I’m probably making too much of a big deal of this lol, but for the leading TV sports outlet in this country to have agendas while charging high subscription prices every month doesn’t sit well with me. Oh I definitely agree we generate clicks, nothing will brighten the day of rival fans than reading about Chelsea's "chaos". Like you say they like to take a swing at the strongest, especially when down I will add, that is just human nature. The competition of it. So when you say "targeted" i think that's too strong imo. It's all about subtlety and we as humans do the rest. Using the right pic, adding the very subtle negative tone or even just a bit of doubt. All they need is us/you to question the status quo and the rest is us. Add a pinch of herd mentality, again normal and a dollop of rival fans and that's job done. "The human brain is wired to focus on the negative because it was a survival mechanism in prehistoric times. People who were more attuned to danger were more likely to survive and pass on their genes." Edited September 5, 20241 yr by Simplymo

Oooo...sry to say this mate but 12-15 yrs in the media (including the beeb, and a few odd years of freelance) there is always an agenda. Facts are facts but there's a million ways to represent those facts. The news is written by ppl, human beings, they are not averse or unaffected by human nature.
September 5, 20241 yr @Nibs @bluetrooper @2211 Here's another... A whole article about palmer and the others not going to be in the European conference league - league stage. Very subtle undertones and right at the bottom as if it's a footnote Spuds can't field a full team because they haven't got enough homegrown players. Which is the bigger news? Imagine if we couldn't fill our homegrown quota!!! Oh the drama and break downs, English sports writers would be doing overtime right now! 😄 "Lack of club trained options" its as if it isnt their fault Just by using those 2 words in front. Lol, the media, got to love it, got to admire its power. Meanwhile, Tottenham have left defenders Djed Spence and Sergio Reguilon out of their Europa League squad. They could only name 23 players instead of the usual 25 because of a lack of club-trained options. Spence is back in the first-team fold after loan spells at Leeds and Genoa, but Reguilon could leave the club. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cje2jw09ylzo Edited September 5, 20241 yr by Simplymo Forgot link
September 5, 20241 yr Also note how much of the other stuff they mention too...they keep drilling it in so it's always there in our minds. Least it can do is create doubt and if you recall my previous post, that's enough. They repeating themselves over and over isn't just to fill up a word total, it's just another media (normally news) trick. Edited September 5, 20241 yr by Simplymo

There was something in the BBC recently saying something like "Palmer has 24 goals in the last x months, Saka has 26 goals and assists' - making it seem to the layman that Saka was out performing - which we all know is bo**ocks once we take into account Palmers assists as well. Talk sport pundits all over media saying Palmer shouldnt start for the national team. If Palmer was at Arsenal, Liverpool or UTD, the media would be creaming themselves over him....

You’d have to be blind to watch both of them on a regular basis and think Saka has been the better player over the last 12 months. To play devils advocate. Saka has been playing at a good level for 2-3 years whilst Palmer is really only 1 year but he’s not showing signs of slowing up this season.
