I don’t know, I’m pretty sure the ownership would have liked to see Felix, Nkunku get more games. Chilwell is a bizarre one, seems to be all Maresca. Chalobah definitely wasn’t but I’m still hopeful after tonight, he will have seen enough to contest. Anyway, despite winning tonight I really wasn’t impressed. Wolves are a really poor team and we haven’t changed anything, I can see us struggling for a long while. City game might suit us a lot due to having more space behind the line but as soon as we face a mid table team, we’ll struggle and I can’t see that changing.

Am not sure on Felix to be honest. My take on it is Mendes and the owners did some sort of back scratching deal, and we tanked the Samu deal to go for Felix to help out Mendes. If Felix moves on again Mendes gets more money, and it was hard for him to get Felix out of Atletico without our help. Nkunku was a signing between Todd and Vivell. I don't think the SDs are bothered about him, nor do his wages fit in to our model. Perhaps they want him off the wage bill?
January 20, 20251 yr Our entire first choice back four are all non SD signings and there's SD signing alternatives in all of those areas.
January 21, 20251 yr A good summary so far compare to last. We are definitely better but just slightly in all area. I expect more but this is fine. The most improved stats by far is 1.66 vs 1.24 goals conceded, that is 15 goal improvement over a season, sounds very impressive until you see that it is 1.55 xga vs 1.44 xga, maybe it is Sanchez vs Petrovic maybe it is our lucky season. January 21, 20251 yr No secret I am not a believer in him, a large part of that is the two SD picked him. However he is certainly being set up to fail but those two leaving him with Caicedo having to do all the midfield work by himself while they refuse to recall Santos and Lesely. I don't give a toss about Strasbourgs season. Like Chalobah Santos goes straight in to our team and improves us massively, and Lesley gives us a good 3rd option.

Board usually doesn't get involve too much about who is playing on the field. There is going to be some discussion but this is 100% HC job. With the way Maresca want to play , it is very difficult to play Felix and Nkunku. Squad building on the other hand is very different. A while ago, manager had big say in this but in recent years in some/most clubs the power has shifted toward SD.
January 21, 20251 yr Well the sporting directors and the board are a disgrace.. they will feed us to the wolves to make a profit .. they are a PE firm and they have no morals or soul.

Maresca is fine, I think everyone here will agree that we are playing better football than last season. I am not big fan of what our SD did last summer. I don't think they addressed some our problem from last season but at least this season we have a normal squad and playing normal football.
January 21, 20251 yr This a very good video from slot. He talk about Gravenberg uniqueability to create overload by dribbling from pivot (lavia) and his long leg. As slot said, defending is not about tackling, it is all about running. I have said this many times about Lavia and enzo, it is hard for us to be great defensively when Lavia and Enzo cannot run.

January 21, 20251 yr Now we have Tosin and Chalobah, is it me or do we suddenly look dangerous at corners?

January 21, 20251 yr Thought we were very naïve towards the end of the game. 3-1 up, desperately needed a win, and we were still piling forward and nearly getting caught out on the break. No game management.

January 21, 20251 yr Think Maresca has got a little bit lucky in one respect. With our defence now - if we can continue to play James, Tosin, Chalobah and Cucurella, we suddenly carry more of a goal threat. All have goals in them and look more threatening from set pieces. Between them they are likely to score more than Jackson, Neto and Sancho combined.

January 21, 20251 yr 2 hours ago, axman2526 said: Yeah, I think he would have been very happy to use Conor as well, if allowed to do so. The club were dishonest with us. They pretended that it was usually our academy players who didn't suit whatever system the coach wanted to play and they had to be sold or banished from all first team facilities. It was purely and simply a pure profit financial decision and nothing to do with a player's ability to play in a particular system. If anyone actually fell for their obvious lies then the Chalobah recall should have opened their eyes.
