Enzo Maresca - Chelsea "Head Coach" *Official NOW SACKED*

Fernandez has improved for me. Him and Cucu are the only ones I would credit Maresca for.

Fernandez has had the whole team built around him to be the star man, and despite this, he hasn't improved nearly enough for me.

He is unlikely to even hit double figures for goals this season, which is a pretty poor return for the minutes played in the positions and free role he has been selected in. You can point to the 13 assists as a numerical improvement on 23/24, which it is, but take out the Conference League ones, and nearly half of them disappear ... he's not had anything like the impact on the PL that his PR and large fee would mandate.

Given also the net impact on the team of other players being diminished then he's really not worth all the fuss. Presented with the option of getting the best out of Palmer vs Fernandez, for example, and I would choose Cole all day long.

Maresca got his job in the first place by presenting "multiple options to get the best out of Enzo Fernandez" when what really needed to happen was for Eghbali to man up, admit he made a mistake with the signing and had his pants pulled down on the fee, and to flog Enzo to whoever will buy and move on. Behdad continues to play the little man though ...

f**k me, you have to be on a windup surely

Palmer is objectively worse this season, what on earth are you talking about.

It doesn't matter if they don't fit the system, if they are playing worse they are objectively worse than last season...

He is a young player and you could argue he hasn't been bad this season.

It’s been said before but the only player who has improved other than some of the academy lads is Cucu.

Every single other first team player has regressed this season.

There is broad consensus for this opinion and you are one of the very few outliers.

Why has this happened? Is it the fault of each individual player or the manager? I know where I put the blame….

Cucus been very good, Colwills been good, Tosins been good, Enzos been good, Caicedo's been excellent, Sancho's been much better than he has been last seasons, Nonis been good, Palmer's been good, some young players have been good.

I think Sanchez is a flop and should be moved on. Jackson for me should either play second fiddle to a top striker or left wing. Gladly we have Petrovic in our ranks but we absolutely need a top striker. I haven't given up on Jacko but he costs too much to our results.

The football lately has been stagnant but there have been many signs in these games if you can strike a balance between playing quick attack and controlling the game with the ball we can win trickier games which for us is the key to go higher up the table. Playing against low block is tough for most teams, even the top ones.

The Whoscored view of average ratings for our players this season vs last season (and for Sancho I used 22/23 which was the last season he played full time in the PL)

  • Green = better in 24/25 than 23/24

  • Amber = same

  • Red = worse in 24/25 vs 23/24

View of Cucurella is interesting seeing as most people's perception is he is better in 24/25 than in 23/24. I think his goals have perhaps disguised his performance level ?

And yet Bayern Munich still want him....

Bayern, Barcelona or Man U. sh*t house clubs who know nothing about good footballers.

Yes he’s been poor for us. That’s what dumping someone in the f**king ‘B’ team does for you. Remember when conte devalued Costa with a text. This clown has devalued half a squad.

Or maybe people watch the actual games and not just relying on graphs/tables to make their opinions for them?

Cucurella hasn't improved. As it has been pointed out already, he was this good towards the end of last season, carried on his good form for Spain during the Euros, and has continued under Maresca. But he hasn't been improved one inch by Maresca, he was playing at this level months before. So, Maresca hasn't improved a single player so far.

How is that research conducted exactly? Self-reporting or tape measure?

Its ran by the Institute for wang development, they send a schlong inspector to each country annually (careful). I know because I once got offered a job while I was working in the vegetable department at a Tesco, was talent spotted due to my cucumber handling skills.

I think the easiest barometer to measure Maresca by is the fact we’re about to have our best league finish since Super Tommy Tuchel and I’d suggest at least 95% of the fanbase isn’t pleased at all.

League position is skewed by the Poch hangover at the start of the season and the fact the PL as a whole is at its lowest point in 2 decades.

The football we’re rolling out each week, is to put it kindly tactically inept.

Although this would help my point but I still say it is not end all be all how we finish on the table. If we had Newcastles squad I'd scream for CL spot. Their squad and coach should be going for those places also being essentially the richest club in the world. Our squad is in the building phase. Young squad will fluctuate inside a long season much more than an experienced one.

Yep.

I've been asked if as a CFC supporter I would take CL and keep Maresca or alternatively, miss out on CL if it meant Maresca got his P45 and I am 100% the latter.

I'm fed up watching dull, clueless football and watching talents like Palmer struggling with this negative style of play.

So errrrmmm.... Is there a similar graph for let's Western Europe? Asking for a friend.

I'm afraid not Val, we might need you to collect some data for us. It's in the name of science (probably).

That said, I imagine you have a decent sample size for Ireland at least.
