Reminds me of players like Eto'o, Raul, Inzaghi etc. Proper old school penalty box striker, always hunting. Kind of forward the modern game has gone away from with a need for playing outside the box, bringing others into the game etc Lovely to see.
December 20, 20241 yr Being able to look back at the game again. This kid just knows where the goals are, it's really a shame we have Nkunku (who's scoring lots) and Jackson (who fits the system better) in front of him. Want to see him play for us in that No. 9 spot in the PL.
December 20, 20241 yr Watching the goals back, Giui's anticpation and pace was excellent, but the standout for me was the confidence he showed to shoot from a real tight angle and awkward distance with his second goal. Edited December 20, 20241 yr by TheBeard
December 20, 20241 yr I like Guiu too, liked that 2nd goal where he hits from the wide angle. Will be interesting to see if he gets an EPL match or two so we can see how he would shape up against EPL opposition.
February 4, 20251 yr I thought that he offered more than Jackson last night. It was obvious that he's 19 and needs to adjust to the PL, but he didn't do anything wrong. He went for headers (a change from Jackson), linked up well with other players, he showed some quality and, although he did not get any shot as far as I remember, he fought his ground with the CBs. I think that he should get a few starts now against Brighton, Southampton, Leicester and see how he develops. After all, he's the only alternative we've got to Jackson, who needs to be benched like Sanchez.
February 4, 20251 yr Seen a lot of people commenting that he offered more than Jackson... The guy barely touched the ball the whole time he was on. He made like 3 passes and otherwise, you forgot he was even on. Sorry, I know everyone hates Jackson, but Guiu isn't PL ready.

I don't think he offered more than Jackson though, but it's good to let Jackson know Guiu is lurking in the wings. A bit of competition could hopefully raise both their game. Jackson found some space dropping off the defenders a couple of times, or in behind, which Guiu didn't manage to do (albeit in half the pitch time). Good to have a proper run around in the prem though, and to be part of the comeback side
February 4, 20251 yr He touched the ball a few times but the way he occupied the box spaces and moved dragging defenders for our players to attack was better than Jackson's. His link up play within and around the box was also better. He attacked a headers (for example for the first goal) from positions where Jackson would have never even tried to. I've said that he needs to adjust, he's 19 and hasn't had many minutes in the PL after all, but I was overall happier with how he affected our attack than when Jackson was on.
February 4, 20251 yr I was watching his movement in and around the box quite closely and it was quite promising. He consistently read things before it happened even if he didn't end up getting the ball like for the Palmer goal he's already at the front post waiting getting a edge over the defender marking him. Would be so cruel if he's injured right when he's about to be given more of a chance. Hope he's alright.

Its more than the touches though, he his runs and positioning was that of an actual striker, he just didnt get any of the balls he should have. He was pressuring the defenders much more also, moving them out of position rather than just ambling around like Jackson does.

Naturally like most at that age (bar Torres and Rooney) he does not have the physical attributes to cope with the PL yet, imo. Needs to hit the gym. Mudryk probably needs a training buddy lol.
February 4, 20251 yr That one block he did in the 90+ min was fantastic and helped us massively when they were bombing forward.
February 4, 20251 yr So nice to see us play with an actual striker... Who challenges for headers, can win a physical dual and makes proper runs. Also not an ugly c**t like the turd donkey.
February 4, 20251 yr When do you ever see Jackson anywhere near the end of a cross? That's part of the problem. And when I do see him on the end of one he's skying it. I would rather give Guiu a start at the moment, Jackson isn't earning his keep.
February 4, 20251 yr Yeah nothing but positives from his appearance last night, you can tell there is an intelligent player there who once hes grown into his body could be an absolute beast. The runs, the link up play, the box positioning. It’s lovely to see a proper #9

Agreed overall Wacko offered more, but it was tough for both because West ham packed the box with so many defenders all the time. What I did like about Guiu though was he was always in the box waiting for a cross. That and his constant pressuring too. Kid deserves more minutes.
February 4, 20251 yr From what I have seen from the game, neither of them were any good. Although I wouldn't say we missed Jackson at all after he was subbed. I still think Nkunku is the option up front, even he has his own unique issues. But he's staying, so what's the harm of giving him some starts?

Honestly think Nkunku on a left works better than Sancho who has been hit and miss so far this season. he has to get some games

I think we lose too much for having Chris on the left. He wont hug the touchline. He isnt a player who can regularly beat a man with skill or pace. He isnt particularly fast. His tracking back is pretty weak. For me, he has to be in the centre - either up top, or just behind. Up top has not been a success. It can all be solved, with what appears the simple solution. Move Palmer to his best position on the right. Neto or Sancho on the Right. Guiu as a battering ram up front, with Chris supporting from deep. The only minus is that Madueke gets limited game time.

He's fine on the left if he comes in and operates in the half space next to Palmer, its the exact same as what Palmer would be doing if he started RW. The big thing is if Palmer is RW we need Gusto over lapping or if Nkunku is LW we need the LB overlapping. Funnily enough that would be the perfect role for Chilwell, lets see how he gets on with regular game time. Guiu Chilwell Nkunku Palmer Neto Lavia Caicedo Colwill Tosin Reece or Guiu Neto Nkunku Palmer Gusto Lavia Caicedo Cucurella Colwill Reece
