Van Ginkel to Chelsea

Featured Replies

It seems he will play the box to box role next to a DM. Not surprised that he will be in the first team squad, we basically had Lampard, Ramires and Luiz playing in the two deep positions for 5-6 months last season when fixtures were crazily piling up.

If he signs and doesn't go on loan then one of Mikel, Essien, Romeu must be getting sold.

Essien was fantastic in his day, but his day was years ago, unless he has recovered much more from injuries than was apparent 12 months ago. Romeu has not proved himeself and hasn't played hardly since injuring himself, and Mikel has been discussed to death.

Central midfield has is a vital position for Chelsea and we obviously need more options there. You have to have players at the peak of their powers in midfied. You cover more kilometers (except maybe for wing backs), are involved in hard physical tackling, have to be fit enough to be mentally strong when you get the ball and have to go as hard at the end of the game as at the beginning. It is no place for a passenger.

Many on these boards talk about strikers and goals but leagues are generally won by conceding few goals and overpowering opposition midfields is the way to do that.

Emenalo and the board proved we can trust them signing players nowadays. Looking forward to seeing him play for us, but a loan to a good team in one of the top leagues might do better for him though.

Can we trust them?

We have so many players out on loan already. Are they just gathering dust or waiting for their value to go up an be sold/traded?

Who knows?

Lukaku, KDB and Courtois seem to be developing nicely.

Chalobah had a great season at Watford and McEachran managed to get a whole lot of first team football under his belt finally. Thorgan Hazard earned his first international call up following his season loan and the likes of Kalas have had a productive season whilst on loan at Vitesse who always give lots of playing time to younger players who go on loan there.

Yes we have a lot of players out of loan but for the most part they are being handled well and if nothing else their value is increasing so that should they not develop to be good enough to be a part of our first team then they will at least be sold for a profit which helps to balance the books and looks good for FFP.

I sometimes wonder where these players loyalty lies.

Will we ever see a Frank Lampard again?

If we start to integrate some of the loan players soon, I'll say "We'll done".

There must be more to supporting a club than just thinking like a corporate business model.

The problem is, the business aspect of football is starting to become a very important part of the game (see FFP) so as fans it's hard to ignore the business running of the club and so if we see young players bought for say £1m and then despite never wearing the blue of Chelsea sold 2-3 years later for £5m then you've got to say "well done" to the club and the scouting team.

With the availability of information offered by the internet we are able to follow the progress of the loan players more than ever so when we hear about KDB for example playing a blinder in Germany and getting clips of matches via YouTube you suddenly demand more of the club with regards to the loaned players.

I think there is plenty of loyalty at Chelsea with regards to the playing staff JT, Lampard, Cech, Cole, Drogba, Mikel and Essien for example all have/had lengthy spells at the club and it is only in the last couple of years we've seen a lot of the longer serving players moved on.

If handled right there is no reason the likes of Hazard, Mata, Oscar, Luiz, Dave couldn't rack up the best part if not more of 10 years at Chelsea.

Lampard has left a legacy now with his goal tally. Something to be proud of.

When I see David Luiz as the kids ambassador it lifts me up.

These things money can't buy.

I sincerely hope the new players you mention have something to give back.

Don't know much about Van Ginkel, supposedly he isn't coming here just to be loaned out again. What kind of role would he play in the squad? Could he come straight in as the primary holding midfielder, or is that an aim for another season? Would that even be his best position for us?

Personally feel he will go out on loan but not straight away, Jose we wanna see him in pre season so how he does. Also depends on who we sign in that position still being linked with Centre mids so i still feel we will buy another midfielder but more likely a defensive one.

I don't see him as a specific holding midfielder. He's more the box to box type having a huge lung capacity combined with a strong fysique presence and great technical ability. Rumour has it that the only reason for him seeing Ajax as a possibility was the oppurtunity to finish his uni's here. I however, do not reckon him to be ready this season, so it might be wise to loan him out for another season to Vitesse so that he can finish his uni's and then in a season or too take over Big Frank's place in midfield.

Chelsea make move for midfielder Marco van Ginkel

Chelsea have held talks with Vitesse Arnhem midfielder Marco van Ginkel about a move to Stamford Bridge.

The 20-year-old has met Blues boss Jose Mourinho and will return to the Dutch club on Thursday, when discussions will take place about his future.

Van Ginkel's rise

Marco van Ginkel joined Vitesse Arnhem when he was just seven years old and has progressed through their academy. He made his debut for the club in April 2010 and his international debut came in November last year.

Van Ginkel's main concern is over how much first-team football he would get.

He is on the fringe of the Dutch national side and has hopes of making the squad for next year's World Cup - and is said to be valued at about £8m.

Van Ginkel joined Vitesse's academy as a seven-year-old in 1999 and came through the ranks before making his debut for the club in April 2010.

He emerged as one of the team's star performers last season and was a regular as he helped the club secure fourth place in the Dutch top flight.

Van Ginkel, whose current contract with Vitesse runs until June 2015, could become Chelsea's second summer signing following the £18m arrival of Germany international forward Andre Schurrle from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.

Mourinho is in charge of the Blues for the second time following his return as the club's manager earlier this summer after parting company with Real Madrid.

It's ON

I read comments from Mikel today saying he doesn't know if he will still be at Chelsea next season.... Who knows with this deal looking more likely.

I'm starting to think we might revert back to 4-3-3 in truth.

Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel admits he does not know whether he will be staying at Stamford Bridge this summer.

The Nigerian international has just finished playing in the Confederations Cup in Brazil and is now set for an extended break.

He has been strongly linked with a move to Turkish giants Galatasaray, and it remains to be seen whether he is in the plans of Jose Mourinho - who he used to play under at Stamford Bridge.

Mikel admits that he still has a long-term agreement with the Blues, but says anything can happen in football - suggesting he may not be staying put.

"I have a four-year contract with Chelsea, but you know, in football you can never guess, one day you are here, the next day you might leave," he said.

Ambiguous I know but it's not a statement of intent that he wants to stay either.

I'd only be happy with MvG if we loaned him out for the season. He looks like he's got real potential but we're extremely deep in that role at the moment. And as he wants to play regularly to get in the WC squad a loan would suit everyone.

By the sounds of it he wont be getting loaned out, I think the board wanted Matic first but the price is ridiculous so Van Ginkel is the next choice.Everything i have read and seen is promising, hope we are still interested in Kondogbia aswell.
