Thank You Mr Roman Abramovich

One side of the story with the other side coming from someone famously secretive and reluctant to give public statements. Then you've ghostwriters/publishers who know how to generate hype for a book.

Whilst it sounds believable, you've got to take it with a pinch of salt.

"Prior to the Man United CL game, He told me individually that if we lost then I was not to bother coming back to work.".

That's a pretty shocking statement if true. I cannot see how saying to anyone regardless of how much money they earn supports them to achieve their targets. It's even more annoying that we got rid of Carlo to get AVB. I never believed that Roman was that direct.

I love Roman and do believe that he is abit more patient these days. I hope he's learned from his mistakes.

I find it hard to believe Roman would be that direct personally. More likely an exaggerated statement to help sell his autobiography.

I am grateful for having Roman and the success we have had but I will say he knows nothing about player recruitment or building teams and the people close to him are naive too. When he arrived he just bought anyone and everyone. When the team needed players ie last year, he bought no one, when carlo needed players he bought no one. Roman only buys big name players for himself, see shevchenko and torres.

We have not had a record transfer dud for a while sheva 2006, torres 2011, 2016?? Lets hope he don't force one on conte he's already got his hands full with all the others.

Carlo said he wanted Torres, he was not forced on him.

More accurately, as with many successful people, Abramovich gets surrounded by "yes"-men, to scared to challenge in case they get fired.

Agree completely. I fear Zlatan may be the next "gift" from Roman.

I think that's clearly a younger, more aggressive Roman.

He has certainly been a lot calmer from our perspective....he waited so long to fire Jose.

He has perhaps matured in his own role now and knows realistically that you cannot win every game.

The way this season has gone should prove to be a massive eye opener for him, and us !

Reading that extract, it seems to be a pretty brutal experience working for Roman.

Maybe his determination for us to be the best helped us massively in the beginning, although I'd hope he is more approachable 5 years down the line having seen us lift every trophy available.

I really liked Carlo, and I think we would have won back to back trophies if we had made better decisions in that summer. Very similar to Mourinho's situation this time around.

Think this is right!

Interesting insight this, once again Roman doesnt come out in a good light in some parts, the club considered bringing back Grant after Jose went, that shows just how out of touch the club are with us fans, & to think us CPO get vilified for having our concerns about giving up our shares.

I still remember masses of fans wanting Carlo to leave or at least happy to admit his time was up due to two miserable champions league exits, a rubbish November and a poor attempt to steal the title at Old Trafford. I'll be honest, I joined the bandwagon and wasn't sad to see him go for those very reasons.

Only time I've been upset at sackings in the Roman era were Ranieri, Jose first stint and RDM. The rest I agreed with.

I just dont get that viewpoint, we won our first double under Carlo playing some great exciting football along the way & then finished 2nd a year later with a depleted squad & two marquee signings in the Jan which one of whom we didnt need at the time(Torres) & David Luis which was to little to late, under AVB/Di Matteo we finished 6th in the PL, yes we won the CL under Di Matteo & he deserved to be treated better but maybe if Carlo had got a 3rd season & the right signings who knows what he could have won us.
