February 6, 20206 yr Hope he gets a two year extension great servant absolute brilliant to have around the kids.
February 6, 20206 yr Look forward to the day he retires (think he has another in the locker) so he can talk openly about those recurring Barcelona rumours.

Willian needs motivation, that's when he plays well, when he's fighting for his place, right now he's fighting for a contract, if we give him 2 years what's his motivation for next season?

February 6, 20206 yr Willian the enigma. Can't believe he has been a Chelsea player for 7 seasons. He has had the occasional brilliant game, a fair number of good games and a lot of average & forgettable games. Has scored a few great goals, got assists and has taken a few good free-kicks but when you look back, it's nowhere near enough. Another season of Willian would show a complete lack of ambition by our club and confirm that we have settled for average. This MUST be his last season.
February 14, 20206 yr I suppose somebody had to take up the mantle of Chelsea's most divisive player now Luiz and Mikel have left. Personally I would definitely be keeping him on. I know there are rumours that he wants a two-year contract but the club are only willing to offer him one. Perhaps a one-year with an option to extend? I think he has a unique skillset within our squad. I don't think anyone else does what he does. I think certain players are able to replicate individual elements of what Willian does, but usually not as effectively, and cannot replicate his role entirely. It's simple. When Willian is not on the pitch, we can barely string together four passes in the final third. Until we have somebody else who can do that, he must stay. I am utterly baffled that Willian is perpetually described as a 'winger'. He's not.

If he's not a winger, why are so many top level managers playing him as one?

February 14, 20206 yr He's a wide forward, no point arguing over job description, we all see where he plays.

What other wingers have we signed that have been good. CHO replaced him back end of last season, before that he had Schurrle and a young Salah so was bound to start. I don't think he's sh*te, just that we can and should have done much better. On the same level as Malouda for me.

He's not. which is the shame of it... that's where he plays, on the wing... and that's where he's least effective based on his skill-set would love to see him in a wide mid-field area... even better, I would like to have seen him try and replicate a Brazil Legend Marcelo, especially later in his career. If he had the drive, he was good in Conte's system, but I think he would have been a terror playing one of the wing-backs.
February 14, 20206 yr Just now, RIP Mourinho said: Lack of options? and poor internal scouting. You mentioned Salah. I don't think anyone would argue who you would rather have in a front 3 right now. Salah had as many league goals in one season as Willian has had in his Chelsea career. We need that fire power up front. He was second choice to Pedro under Conte, and neither of them started in the 5-3-1-1 that he ran so much in the second season. Pedro started for Sarri when he was fit to begin the season, but then Pedro couldn't stay fit, and hasn't returned. Willian has been a true first choice for Lampard competing against Pedro who has dropped off dramatically, CHO, coming off a serious injury, and Pulisic, who can't stay fit. That Willian has been a key player is one of the reasons why we're 30 points off of 1st. That's not Willian's fault, he's just not good enough to be a key player, a #10, on a squad looking to compete for Championships. Willian is a remarkable athlete and incredibly skilled. It's a shame he's been played out of position for virtually his entire career because the Club have deemed him good enough to hold down one of those wide spots. My biggest criticism of Willian on the pitch has been his effort and attitude the last 3 years. Debut against Leicester aside, he's been a very good pro this year. But while the club sees him as world class, while the club sees him as a player fit to wear the #10, while the club give him star status... we won't be winning anything... and that's the main reason I'm anxious for him to move on. He's a great role player, and he can fit many roles at a club chock full of talented players that don't count on Willian for goal contribution.

February 15, 20206 yr I hoped that Willian taking the #10 shirt would make it clearer but I suppose not...
