February 16, 201610 yr It probably didn't help that we were outnumbered 3 to 2 in midfield and one of the 2 was Fabregas. I think both did reasonably well considering the circumstances.
February 16, 201610 yr We saw the good and bad tonight from Mikel. Sadly against sides who are quick and tricky in the middle he can't get near them and ends up fouling giving away dangerous set plays. He made up for his mistake in the best way but we really do need a better option in the middle next season.
February 17, 201610 yr Goal or no goal, the bloke is a chode and needs to be sold in the summer. Sell him for a packet of salt and vinegar, whatever, just get him out. That's overly harsh, I find myself embarrassed by comments like this, 10 years of service, never complains once, albeit he's far from spectacular, but his own fans are calling him a chode and the plastic retards on Twitter wish that he'd died, it's not necessary. February 17, 201610 yr Mikel shouldnt be starting games of this importance if we want to be contenders. He did score TWICE though! And 2-1 is better than 1-0
February 17, 201610 yr I think he redeemed himself. That goal will go a long way. At Stamford Bridge we will have take control and score against those freaking Frogs.

February 17, 201610 yr I had no real problem with the foul, he was exposed 2 on 1 and the player got past him to attack an outnumbered defence, he had very little choice but to foul him. If he had left him and they scored he would be called for not bringing him down. But to turn his back in the wall is unforgivable.
February 17, 201610 yr Basically, if you deduct Mikel's contribution, we lost 1-0, we had several chances that, on another day, might have gone in and didn't ever look like we were going to get battered, despite at least one of our Shedend "fans" saying they thought that would be a good thing in another thread. I'm not sure even about the Judas-level back-turning debacle. Doesn't look like a full-on nancy turn away squealing like a girl to me, more like the standard of turning and self-preservation that all players do and Mikel was desperately unlucky to have the ball hit him and totally throw off Tibo. And, finally, I'm not even sure that it was a foul for the free-kick. At least one of the replay angles made it look like a dive at worst and an accidental self-trip at best. Anyway, I know that the John Obi critics will use those two pieces of football action to stoke up their own internal fires of animosity to the lad and nothing I or others say will make any difference. Even more so to the ones in here who can't even grudgingly say a good thing about him when he does well (I know, I know, he doesn't do well EVERY time, not even me and Plokkers think that)

Technically I'm a Matthew Harding Lower """"fan"""" now but I get what you're saying. I'm sorry if what I said upset, offended or just plain annoyed you but we're all welcome to our own opinions and we all ultimately want what's best for the club that we turn up and support every other week. Cheers mate.
February 17, 201610 yr My main point, which you edited out of the quote is that Mikel haters will hate regardless and so will exaggerate anything to justify their animosity towards him to themselves. Your considering a large defeat at PSG as a solution to your own ennui regarding the club and its upper echelons was only used as part of a larger point that it never looked on the night that we would get hammered. Not offended or upset, I've seen you say worse in previous incarnations, but I would never think that a defeat for the club was ever anything but a bad thing, and I can't understand why any Chelsea fan would think that it could be a good thing. Like you say, we are all welcome to our own opinions (did you mean entitled to, by the way?), but hoping for a defeat is not, in my opinion, wanting what's best for the club.

February 17, 201610 yr My main point, which you edited out of the quote is that Mikel haters will hate regardless and so will exaggerate anything to justify their animosity towards him to themselves. The idea of people hating a particular player is a weird one to me. Most supporters I know judge players on what they give for the club and the ones who go beyond that usually have questionable intentions. If people consistently criticise a player then maybe that player is consistently below-par in their opinion. It happens. Your considering a large defeat at PSG as a solution to your own ennui regarding the club and its upper echelons was only used as part of a larger point that it never looked on the night that we would get hammered. Fair enough and I like the way you characterised my moaning there. I can only speak for myself and say that I look at each match within a larger context. So AVB losing a game like Napoli 3-1 was bad, but if it ultimately led to him being sacked and Robbie coming in then perhaps it was a good thing that we lost. It's like most things in life. You sometimes (perhaps most times) learn more from defeat and rejection then you would from a win and that's basically the way I view it. Sometimes you need to hit rock bottom to make the changes needed for longer-term success. Hope that clears it up a bit. Edited February 17, 201610 yr by ShedEnder91
February 17, 201610 yr Hope his goal will a have an effect for us to go through. Mikel, he scores when he wants!

Couldn't disagree more - I think your attitude regarding one of our longest serving and most successful players of a generation is quite frankly appalling. He will be one of the only 'old guard' characters in the dressing room if he stays, something we will really, really need if JT does end up leaving. Edited February 17, 201610 yr by Jones1905
February 17, 201610 yr Mikel was okay last night. He did a mistake that led to Zlatans goal but otherwise he did well. Defensively Cesc was in more trouble. Still I would love to have Matic back at his best.
February 17, 201610 yr It was the best I've celebrated a goal in a long while, you can tell the big man enjoyed it just as much too.

He will be one of the only 'old guard' characters in the dressing room if he stays, something we will really, really need if JT does end up leaving. I don't know if reminding people that Mikel will be our longest-serving player after JT leaves and the senior voice in the dressing room of Chelsea Football Club is going to make people think more fondly of him. It's a weird thought - after Captain, Leader, Legend leaves, there's a decent chance that a player whose order of names we're still not all on the same page about (Mikel Jon Obi, Jon Obi Mikel, Jon Mikel Obi....can't we just call him Dave instead?) is going to be the one to show players around on their first day at school. Hmm....that is an interesting turn in the story of Chelsea Football Club.
February 17, 201610 yr The defence played well last night. A midfield pairing of Fab and Mikel is never going to be great, specially against a 3 man midfield as good as there's. You can see the big class gap between Mikel and PSGs midfield. Fab can't really defend and Mikel just stands there like a tree watching the ball go round him with the occasional gust of wind might move him lol.

Hmm....that is an interesting turn in the story of Chelsea Football Club. To answer your first point: why not? You just need to look at the number of appearances and trophies he's accumulated over an entire career playing with at our club to realise how important he is in the squad moving forward. If looking at those numbers and remembering his contributions doesn't make you more fond of him then you never will be fond of him so your mind has already been made up. By telling me that highlighting his success in becoming the clubs longest serving player after JT will in turn count as a negative towards some of our fanbase's fondness of him perfectly highlights the stinking attitude people have towards him despite his 354 matches across 10 years. I didn't write that post expecting to change any opinions, I just wanted to highlight how appalling I think it is that people are calling John Obi Mikel a 'c*nt' on a Chelsea forum. No-one can replace JT, I'm not saying he will. But I can't think of many other current Chelsea players I'd want showing round the young guns the training ground for the first time then someone who has spent so long performing at the highest level with Chelsea, winning countless trophies and never once whinging about any of the turmoil at the club/lack of game time over the years when others were higher up the pecking order. He's been with us so long you can easily forget he's still only 28 and still improving. He's been nothing but a model professional and I just can't believe people hate the guy so much - it's ridiculous.

He's been nothing but a model professional and I just can't believe people hate the guy so much - it's ridiculous. All absolutely fantastic points. Which makes it weird that he's what I'll kindly call 'divisive' doesn't it? Shouldn't he be loved, or cherished or just liked by the majority of fans at this point? All those games, all those trophies, all those years yet still I don't think there would be many supporters who would miss him were he to leave. I may be totally wrong about this all but I've never really got the impression that he's well-liked amongst the support which is..... weird. And yet I saw plenty of people complimenting him on his performance against Palace which was absolutely brilliant which makes me think maybe it's not just down to the 354 matches in 10 years but maybe how's he performed in those matches. Maybe that has something to do with it, like it does with most players. I don't know. I don't mind the guy. He's capable of performing well and I've also probably called him average or mediocre in the past decade or so. It's just weird that he's not got a bigger place in our hearts.
February 17, 201610 yr The player deserves more respect imo easy to slag mistakes not so to acknowledge his service to the club, benched for long periods, a true pro, never moans or wants out, bit like Paulo F.
February 17, 201610 yr It was the best I've celebrated a goal in a long while, you can tell the big man enjoyed it just as much too. Hahaha, you know i like Mikel and when he caused the freekick and kinda the goal, i was like "oh Mikel, i feel sad for you. The forum will go grazy" but then he scores and i was like" wtf, rarely scores but then THIS, i cheered and cheered!"

February 17, 201610 yr if we beat psg at the bridge and go through, mikel is instantly promoted to legend status
