With Mikel in the team we still lost the midfield battle, he still didn't cover for the defense when Everton were attacking and counter attacking and he offered piss all going forward as usual. Also, before he was taking off we never looked like getting back into the game at all, from the start of the second half, right to end of it, we did nothing.

Wouldn't say he was particular impressive. Rarely ever is. He just stayed back and offered a body to help out. Something that Fabregas doesn't do.

I say let Matic and RLC form a partnership. Drop fabregas for Willian or Oscar or even for another striker

Very hard for mikel to just come in and be a stand out player, as he very rarely gets games.

I don't think he is the answer, really think we should have gone for another centre midfielder incase we didn't get pogba.

Who said that then ? pretty much everyone thinks that the team played as bad as each other. I'm also getting sick of you saying that we hate Mikel when we don't, some of us just don't rate him all that highly. Your blind fanboyism is getting annoying too.

If you're a DM you have a responsibility to prevent the likes of Naismith and Barkley finding space 'between the lines' - in that respect Mikel was guilty of ball watching for Naismith's 2nd (from the replay it even looks like Brano points Naismith out to Mikel but he still did f**k all about it).

Probably because we don't play walsall often lol. I hope this is turns out to be a positive season for him though. Been a great servant to the club and has received a lot of criticism, maybe slightly unwarranted.

It's amazing that someone still try to pick out something negative about Mikel in that game! If Mikel scored a hattrick in a match, their will always be someone who wont be impressed with him and will blame him for not scoring 4 or 5 goals in the same match. Some of you really need to get over the hatred you have for that humble fellow!

Consider this: Majority of us think Ramires deserves the MOTM against Walsall. But Ramires didn't have a perfect game. To start highlighting the passes he gave away to the opponents etc rather than commending him for the effort he made in order to give that top perfomance shows you don't like him or you aren't impressed with his efforts, you just simply want him to play perfectly like GENIUS! Am not against anybody slating Mikel because it's the norm here whenever we lose a match, but try to save it for another day when Mikel plays bad

Some reports said he was close to joining in the summer but our failure to secure our own targets meant he had to stay. 

 

If RLC manages to impress over the coming weeks Mikel might find himself 5th choice midfielder at Chelsea and considering his wages it would make sense for him to go. 

 

That said, he'll probably still be here in 10 years time.

with so many people on here questioning the character and mentality of our squad, I think Mikel is one to hang onto. he is a serial winner and clearly has the right mentality having been around winners for so long.

Also, despite the fact he is rarely first choice these days, has he ever looked out of shape like costa was at the start of the season? I think he is a positive role model in our squad and we should keep him around for a while longer
