Mohamed Salah to Chelsea

Featured Replies

It is understood manager Mourinho told Matic he was having serious reservations about the decision to bring him back to Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window.

Egypt winger Salah, who was dragged off at  half-time, was told to make sure he returned for  pre-season ‘ready to be a footballer’.

If this is true then I have no idea what Mourinho's problem with Matic is. Salah is a bit frustrating but its still early on in his Chelsea career and he needs time to adapt to the league.

If this is true then it doesn't surprise me. Managers say things like this a lot at half time if they are pissed at a players performance.

When did football become so weak ?

I question the validity of those sources, but if they are true that is very harsh words from Jose, especially on Matic who has been our best player since his move here.

You do know that that's from Neil Ashton don't you? Previously from that August Murdoch publication NOTW.

Ashton's take on quality journalism (from a MCFC Forum) :

Q:     Articles often lead with this player said such and such "..." but when it comes to the actual quotes, it was nothing of the sort. Why does   this happen?

A:     It's often open to interpretation. Being in the presence of a player/manager, gives a sense of perspective - facial expressions and mood are all things that the reader cannot see.

Q:     I am of the belief that writers should report the news, as opposed to creating it; what is your stance on this?

A:     I prefer to think of it as "finding" the news. It's always out there somewhere. Someone, somewhere always knows something.

Where are the quotes in Aston's piece? There aren't any. He's a palace fan and has always had an axe to grind against Jose.

And how exactly would the Mail know what was said in the dressing room?

This is exactly what I thought as soon as I read it as well. Who is going to go, you know what, after the game I'm gonna tell the Daily Fail (of all papers) what was said in the changing rooms.

Not a single source in there.

If he had serious reservations about Matic he wouldn't be on the team sheet for every game he's been eligible to play. It's just the usual media nonsense trying to unsettle the team.

I wasn't so thrilled about it when we first signed him, I never really rated him highly and I thought we could have done better. I'll always support a player though when he wears that Chelsea shirt, except for Torres. However my perspective on him now is more positive I have to say, he has surprised me. I always knew he was an explosive player but I doubted him as a footballer in general but from the looks of things he looks pretty good all round.

It will be interesting to see how he does next season.

Next season will be important for Salah. In the few months he's had with us he's looked shaky and missed a few chances, but that could be put down to the standard of his old league, moving countries, language etc. Next season he should be more used to the team, playing in pre-season and will be more settled. I think he will be decidedly better next season. He looks promising, with his pace and skill, and age being on his side.

Can't see what he offers that someone like T.Hazard or Piazon or various other youth prospects we have couldn't offer. Just seems like a squad filler at the expense of youth players once again.

Happy to give the lad a chance but would have preferred to use Thorgan or piazon at the time, and if we were to spend I think someone like greizmann would have been a better choice.

I have absolutely no idea why we bought him. Both he and matic came at the same time while only matic showed why he was worth the money spent on him.

He's not THAT bad. These youngsters are being overrated. Salah is surpisingly better at linking up than his rivals and he seems to make things happen. Needs to hone his skills but he looks like a handy player.

Piazon has done nothing for the last four months, no goals and no assists.

Salah would probably be tearing it up in Belgium too, though Thorgan has been doing great.

If he could cross and shoot with any form of consistency then he'd be fantastic.  I'm not sure if he wasn't a bit of a stop gap signing, and that we may see him leaving in the summer (believe me, I've no reason other than a feeling to say this).  And then we bring in someone a little more "world class" to replace him.

SCott

Over the whole game he was our sharpest player, repeatedly increasing the pace of our attacks and getting on the end and getting shots off

YES his shooting needs to improve but his positional play, touch and speed are gonna be a great assets next season

Oh and don't forget he came in on joses watch so plenty to come
