January 12, 201511 yr Posted on Instagram that he's working on his coaching badges with the under-15's, always thought Frank would be the one to end up on the coaching staff...whilst it is to early to say, how do we think he'll do as a backroom member?
January 12, 201511 yr Gareth Crooks actually put him in his team of the week http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/30607951 Good news folks it's going to rain money Did someone hack the BBC site? Come on mods, own up!
January 13, 201511 yr On this day 14 years ago JT scored his first Premier League goal against Arsenal at highbury At the time of writing, the 34-year-old has scored 37 goals from open play, which makes him the highest-scoring defender in Premier League history. While David Unsworth found the net 38 times during his playing career, many of his were scored from the penalty spot. Simply the Best

January 13, 201511 yr Author Where is next John Terry ? you don't make defenders like him these days. Quite honestly I don't clubs will encourage Terry's playing style at academy level anymore and I assume a lot more emphasis is put on ball possession and pressing rather than actual tackling. Preempting rather than reacting. Pure guesswork on my part of course.
January 13, 201511 yr I hope they have his DNA and are spending that Messi money on cloning experiments.

January 13, 201511 yr Author Yeah because JTs game is only about tackling, he's crap at ball retention, passing and reading the game...... Yes because that's the point I was making.
January 14, 201511 yr You've lost me what was your point? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/manchester-united/11202272/Premier-League-football-is-witnessing-the-death-of-defending-as-I-knew-it-and-its-not-coming-back.html This is probably the point he was making.

Thank you! Yes highlights the point I was making exactly, the mindset of football has shifted. It's attacking as a priority, defensive duties can often be an afterthought. With old school coaches, 60-70 per cent of your training ground work would be defensive. Where your foot would be, the position of your hips, how often you would have to turn your head to avoid ball-watching. I compare it to a musician stripping a song back to its elements. Coaching has shot off in another direction, towards the technical. I've had that confirmed by people at academies. The technical and attacking work is now around 80 per cent with 20 per cent reserved for defensive skills.
January 28, 201511 yr We need to talk about Terry. It says much about his enduring excellence that his performance tonight almost passes without notice. Flying into tackles, no quarter given, taking no prisoners, marshalling the defence, putting his head in where it hurts and flying out to block shots. It's his heart, as well as his head. He's the best captain and the best defender of his generation, in any country, and that applies just as much today as it did a decade or so ago. Captain Fantastic .. ? I should coco.
January 28, 201511 yr and that applies just as much today as it did a decade or so ago. That's the most amazing thing of all. Given his performances this season I cannot detect any diminution in his abilities at all.
January 28, 201511 yr It either makes you cringe or laugh hysterically when scousers even put Gerrard's captaincy skills remotely in the same level of Terry's.
January 28, 201511 yr I loved it when he ran to Costa in his second incident and defended him againts those stupid c**ts when they all had a go at him. captain fantastic

January 30, 201511 yr ^ Absolutely brilliant article, best of all that it came from someone who has always been as consistently even-handed and tactically competent as Michael Cox. Can't be accused of bias, can't be accused of not knowing his football. And he still didn't mention that he's two-footed! Also, this is mental: In 22 Premier League games this season, Terry has conceded just four fouls and not been booked once Pure class.
January 30, 201511 yr Yes, great article. Loved the comparison with Ferdinand. Interesting what Eto'o said about his speed. Bizarre that he hasn't made the Premiership XI for 9 years, but then you remember that those XIs are selected by Premiership players like Bellamy who haven't got a clue. Didnt bellamy wrap a golf club around somebodies head?
January 31, 201511 yr I had to post this pic of me as a young 16 year old.Cleaning and picking up kit was one of my duties along with hoovering the dressing rooms, cleaning the toilets and showers.I loved every minute of it and felt so lucky to be able to share the building with the likes of Zola who was superb with all the young players,Franco is putting his boots on to go out and in the afternoon when everyone had left and practice his free kicks and technique.Scoring 8 out of 10 free kicks wasn't good enough for him. What an exampleChelsea and football LEGEND. Two absolute legends!
January 31, 201511 yr I was too young to remember a lot of Zola, watched a lot of videos and I think he was outstanding. Was he really still the best player we have ever had at this club? In terms of ability? I've heard so many Chelsea fans say that who have supported the club for years and years. Even neutrals saying he was fantastic in the Premier League in his time. Shame I could never really witness him.

Shame I could never really witness him. The man was a magician, the ball just stuck to his feet. In a time when the league was a lot more physical he was able to glide his way through defences. When we got a free kick outside the area, anywhere up to 25 yards out you almost expected him to hit the target. Easily one of the greatest players that will ever wear a Chelsea shirt.

He could pull out a piece of magic from nowhere, and he kept you on the edge of your seat. I think he would have been even more effective in today's game, as he would have been protected more.
