The John Terry Appreciation Thread

Featured Replies

Franco got the ball everyone got excited, including his team mates. Watching him run at defenders who were obviously crapping themselves was joyous, culminating in him twisting Carraghers blood up in his last games for us. A true Chelsea legend.

I remember that, turned him inside out, then went back and did it again :)

We need to talk about Terry.

It says much about his enduring excellence that his performance tonight almost passes without notice.

Flying into tackles, no quarter given, taking no prisoners, marshalling the defence, putting his head in where it hurts and flying out to block shots.

It's his heart, as well as his head.

He's the best captain and the best defender of his generation, in any country, and that applies just as much today as it did a decade or so ago.

Captain Fantastic .. ?

I should coco.

He's the greatest defender for mine along with Paolo Maldini! Both outstanding defenders and leaders for their respective clubs.

We should feel privileged to have watched John from a young kid and becoming an outstanding champion and leader for our club! He epitomises the club in so many ways and I hope he remains here until the day of his retirement.

Wonderful player and great post Davey!

when JT retires, I think John Stones would be the ideal replacement. such a natural defender, athletic and probably the best english defender around

Having him on the field is like having a manager there, his leadership and organisational skills are superb. Cahill/Zouma are good defenders, but they are not leaders in the back line. There was no way we would have conceded 4 against Bradford had he played. Replacing JT in the next couple of years will be tricky.

No-one, we'll probably just sell them instead of giving them a real chance.

That’s the worry now we are a club expecting to win everything.

Although we did have International CB’s at the time JT was coming through so I’d like to think if there was another JT coming through we’d still be able to identify that talent instead of never giving them the chance.

The first player to score at the new Wembley for club, and country.

Priceless and irreplaceable.

But we still tried to sell JT before giving him a chance. And that was before we were even challening for much.

Amazing how reliable and consistent he still is even at this age. Imo still the best centre back in the league. Players with pace are his biggest weakness but how many times do you see him get roasted? Not too many times purely because he doesn't allow himself to be caught out like that. No player is perfect and the sign of a very good one is a player who knows his weakness and doesn't allow himself to be exploited.

Yeah, I'm just trying to stay as possitive as possible but like you I fear we'd just sell on or not give the chance to a young hoemgrown player like we did back then when we were not at this level.

Maybe Bamford next season but again I think that's pretty doubtful tbh, he looks a certainty to be loaned out again...probably to a lower placed EPL side this time.

The only time I can recall of Terry been given a real torrid time was against RVP at the bridge. 9 times out of 10 JT's positional play counters a pacey striker plus having a CB beside him with pace seems to work well.

He's the best CB to play in the EPL that's for sure and for me the most consistant CB there has been in Europe since 2004.

Crazy he's only won player of the year twice.

IF we continue as is and lift the EPL then he should be right up that list.

Laughable he hasn't been in the PFA team of the year for 10 years and only twice. Despite being in the UEFA team 3 times since.
