Diego "the guv'nor" Costa

Featured Replies

Perhaps he used google translate, actually starting to wonder how many players control their own Twitter, could be why Michy's Twitter dissappeared, the club want control of it, nevertheless I'm positive he's staying.

Chelsea have offered Costa to Napoli and Inter after repeatedly telling Atletico he isnt for sale, seems legit. :laugh2:

Some of these transfer "news" updates are absolutely embarrassing!

Maybe Napoli can use their 75m transfer fund and whack it all on Costa but tbh If Higuain is worth that much you would need to add another 25m to make me want to sell Diego.

I think like under Simeone we will see a hungrier and more determined Costa. Conte seems to be in that mould himself so you can see the two of them having a good relationship.

He's already been full of nothing but praise for Diego so far and made him feel like his most important attacking player so I expect Diego to repay the positive comments.

Brace tonight!

yeah costa does drift out wide more often than he should be. i wonder why he started doing that. i remember he used to stay central when he first got here, torres was the same.

In his first 6 months he was banging the goals in from just staying in and around the box, after the spurs game though we changed how we were playing and he started to drift.

I thought it was more instruction than Diego himself so we will see now if that was the case if he returns to his original style under Conte.

yeah he was never that good at dribbling, so him being out wide it just made no sense because he'd struggle to take it past the defenders and attack the box. prefer him being a nuisance in and around the box like u say.

"Diego is a forward and he knows that, in my idea of football, the forward must be a point of reference for the team. I don't like that a forward moves around the pitch. I like him to stay there [in the box] because you are a forward and your commitment is to score goals and to stay in the right position. You are a forward - not a midfielder, not a defender."

"I don't like to speak about single players but I will make an exception. Diego is a great player. I know that he is a fantastic finisher but I think he can still improve a lot. I hope for this. I try to improve all of my players. Their past is not important to me and now, I am seeing a good attitude from Diego - to work and to improve in different situations."

"I am happy that Diego stays here to work with us. We know that we can improve through the work and the most important thing is that the players have put themselves into this idea. Diego can give a lot to this team and I am sure he will have a good season."

I love this from Conte, i think Costa will flourish under him.

Let's have a sent off sweep stake. How many games before our guvn'r gets a red?

I bet 3.

No red card, but i can see him getting a retrospective ban for an incident, maybe against united.

Love to hear Conte speak highly of him, actually think that Costa needed that.  However, I am mostly happy to hear that Conte is telling him he is the focal point and has to stay in the box.  I think we've all been crying out for that.  Costa's finishing is actually pretty good when he relies on his instincts; however, he is vastly frustrating when he comes deep and tries to take on defenders.  His dribbling isn't that good, he'd often lose control, and then lunge in to try and win it back.

We have plenty of good midfielders, so let's just keep Costa in the danger areas winding up defenders.

based on what? you believe everything you read?

Based on lots of things. Lack of desire to train Pre-season...removal of all things chelsea on Instagram...the numerous reports suggesting he wants to leave.

Its not necessarily wanting to leave Chelsea, more he would prefer to be at Atletico, which makes sense to me. Doesnt mean he wont perform and play for us. Its football, the Players dont always get there wish.

Conte is not saying anything new. Maybe the way he has put it is a lot different from Jose's but I definitely remember jose saying that Costa needed to stay in the box.

One particular Champions League game JM was livid just before half time. Cant remember the team, we were away though.

Costa didnt react in the box, and would of had tap in. Jose was keen for him to stay there just like Conte.
