Diego "the guv'nor" Costa

Featured Replies

still don't know why he chose spain over brazil.

I think to remember that he chose Spain over Brazil because Spain had been waiting for him to get the nationality to take him to the national squad, while Brazil only decided to call him when they knew that he was going to play for Spain. He saw more chances of playing regularly in the Spanish team. Or that is the version I remember.

Mixed feelings about this; on one hand he gets a rest all summer but on the other hand, he strikes me as one of those footballers that packs on the pounds easily. He also takes a lot of time to get back into the rhythm of things when he has been out for a long time.

Del Bosque has commented that his decision of not taking Costa is due to physical uncertainties and he doesn't want to take players that may not be 100% fit. The case of Mata is different, and he has said that he preferred to take other players instead. So yes, Costa may be injured after all.

He is taking Pedro too.

What about Dave? I know it a bit off topic

Yes, three Chelsea players were called to the Spanish team, Azpilicueta, Fabregas and Pedro. Surprisingly for me, he has taken Pedro as a potential striker.

with who?

I personally would like Morata but there's also Higuain (getting on a bit),

Benzema might be looking for an exit if Real do sign Auba as is being reported, if not we could go after Auba ourselves.

Lewandowski has been talking a lot recently, might just want more money but could want a new challenge.

Lukaku is always an option and will undoubtedly score goals.

Im glad that people on here see the importance that Diego Costa has to us.

One of the very few passionate players we have left, albeit he does overstep the mark a bit and a few you do think the only person he's bothered about is himself but he fights for the team (most of the time).

I would like us to sign Morata to partner him, not replace him with Hazard playing directly behind them, doubt it would happen though.

I rate Morata but he isn't an upgrade in the short-medium term imo. Higuain isn't better than Costa (much less dynamic) and will cost just as much/more. Benzema I'd take, and Aubameyang but not sure we'd get them - same with Lewa.

Lukaku we wouldn't be able to get for 50m

Is any of them a real upgrade on Costa? Sure Costa's antics cause chaos and a part of me will always wonder "how can such a good player play so sh*tty under Jose, and then play so well immediately after his departure" (I dont believe the "players tanked on purpose" theory but costa's weird performances have got me wondering more than once).

More over we need to prepare for life with CL football, not without. We need to keep Costa and add to it with Lukaku/Morata with Traore as Back up. Selling Costa is taking a massive step backwards. The players we should be looking to sell are the likes of Oscar, Pedro, Mikel, Remy who add nothing to the squad and yet are blocking/eating-away at the play time of players like Musonda, Kenedy, RLC, Traore.

Think this issue depends on 2 factors.

1.His Desire to leave. If its that strong then we should cash in. There are strong replacements available. Auba and Morata both offer better future prospects and Higuain is stronger technically.

2. The Style conte wants to implement. Does he feel Costa is more suited to Counter Attacking football with space in behind. If so, after his quotes, he may feel a technical is the way to go. Having said that defensively Costa is the ideal forward for Conte.

I'm really torn on Costa, if it was simply on goal scoring ability I'd say unless we have someone lined up of the same ability keep him without question.
But....
He does bring an awful lot of negative 'heat' down on the club, and most of it is down to him. He's spiteful, underhand, and petty.
His behavior must affect his performances to some degree, he just adds fuel to an already raging media fire against us and I'm not certain he's worth it ?

So there's my dilema, I'm just not sure either way so whatever the club does I'll probably be OK with on this occasion.
