Rio Ferdinand's wife passes away from cancer

Featured Replies

Said it elsewhere but horrendous for any young family. Rio didn't feature for QPR after the March 22nd match but apparently it was her second bout of it. Credit to any man who can function having such a pernicious thing in their life.

Gut wrenching, f**k cancer, f**k it to f**king hell. Poor Rio Ferdinand, their children and who family. Devastating. It probably explains why he hasn't played much for QPR recently, let's be honest there's no way he could concentrate on football, who could?

May she rest in peace.

Her cancer must have progressed quite rapidly. Sorry to hear this, RIP to his wife. Football is football at the end of the day, it's entertainment, but off the field footballers are just normal people with families, and for anyone to lose someone close to them is a terrible thing to endure so hopefully he can pull through this and stay strong for his children.

I've never been Rio's biggest fan but I feel for him and his children!

Condolences to Rio, his children and the rest of his extended family on this sad news.

Rio ... Despite our past all Chelsea fans stand with you today...I hope you and your children find strength from the football community to which you have given a great deal. Football wouldn't be football without rivalry however my heart goes out to you from one family man to another

May Rebecca rest in peace

It's times like this that life gets thrown into perspective.

Forget all past resentment now. I've lost a loved one to cancer and it is something I wish on absolutely nobody, and I mean nobody.

Terrible news. I have experience of losing loved ones to that disease but I can't imagine what it's like losing your partner at such a young age and with young kids.

RIP.
