January 11, 201610 yr Really? It raises stamina, Energy levels, recovery, power. Now for a team that based there entire game on pressing to get the ball then incredible movement that's quite important. At the top level a 5% increase of those makes an enormous difference.

Exactly, there is a reason why they call it performance enhancing.

January 11, 201610 yr Im sick of that award going back and forth between Messi and Ronaldo. Sure they are the best attacking players. But how about some love to the defenders and midfielders who are just as good at what they do? Its supposed to be given to the footballer whos had the best year, not necessarily the most talented or most prolific player.
January 11, 201610 yr lol im sorry but whos better then messi or ronaldo ? im fine with him getting it...cant give the trophy to a guy who faces 2-3 shots a game for most of the year anyway, hes the best player of our generation and maybe ever when its all set and done

I agree, it is kinda boring seeing it go to the same players, but what player has been better than Messi in the last year ? Nobody is at the same level as this guy.
January 12, 201610 yr The entire thing is a joke....apart from Real / Barca / AM playing each other what opposition do they face in their league, no wonder Messi / Neymar / Ronaldo and co can score a ton of goals. See what would happen if they played in the Premier League week in week out I doubt they would be getting 30+ goals a season. Same in Germany and France, piss poor leagues with little or no competition.

Thats it Teams accross Europe have far more skill and tactical ability In fact, the BPL has one of the lowest quality leagues in Europe at the moment. Thats just my opinion but just look at the record of BPL teams VS German, Spanish, Italien and French over the last few years.

January 12, 201610 yr The look on Messi's face when Ronaldo shook his wife's hands, It was something along the lines of 'Okay mate, Move it along, No eye contact or flirting you little weasel'. Thought exactly the same!
January 12, 201610 yr Here is the voting in full: http://resources.fifa.com/mm/document/ballon-dor/playeroftheyear-men/02/75/49/91/fboaward_menplayer2015_neutral.pdf Nothing quite as hilarious as last season, for example Hodgson voting for Mascherano or tons of people voting for Gerrard.
January 12, 201610 yr Author Newcastle looking to buy themselves out of trouble by buying Shelvey for £12m Can't quite work that one out myself but there you go.
January 12, 201610 yr Shelvey is a good baller I think... he'll certainly not make them any worse. Edited January 12, 201610 yr by Zola

That's ridiculous, Just because it's competitive does not make it weak. Here's all you need to know how big of a joke La Liga is, Barcelona played Granada on Saturday, Chelsea played Sc**thorpe on Sunday, Barcelona were 1/10 to win their game, Chelsea were 1/9 to win their game, So basically teams 14th or lower in La Liga are the equivalent of League 2 sides according to the betting. Even when Barcelona play Athletic Bilbao and Villareal they are 1/5 odds, It's a complete free for all for Messi and Ronaldo, Teams absolutely bend over for these guys because of the psychological edge they have over their opponents, Now in the Premier League Chelsea or City could be on a 7 game winning streak and head to the Britannia and still get mauled.
January 12, 201610 yr Just look at who voted for who in the Balon D'or and anyone would see that it is indeed a joke. Messi voted for three club teammates (Suarez, Neymar, Iniesta). Kompany put Hazard and De Bruyne first and second. Lewandowski voted for three teammates (Neuer, Vidal, Muller). Ronaldo voted for three teammates (Benzema, Rodriguez, Bale). Benzema first...! Turan voted for three teammates. Uruguay captain Godin put Suarez first. All the national team coaches voted for their own players. I don't know how anyone can take it seriously.
January 12, 201610 yr The whole palava of the process is silly. Everyone knows Messi is the best player so right now the rest is all a bit unnecessary
January 12, 201610 yr I think Shelvey is a great signing for Newcastle - 70m spent by McLaren, he definitely can't say he's not being backed!

I think both players would still be hitting 30 goals a season over here if they were playing for the best 2 teams. Atletico madrid are arguably better than any team in the premier league, and sevilla have won 2 European cups in the last 2 seasons. Maybe the bottom teams are worse, but the top teams are better in La Liga. It's not like messi and ronaldo score all there goals against the poor teams, they are the top scorers in champions league history, last year ronaldo scored 16 in 12 in Europe. Messi has scored 24 in 26 finals! Ronaldo is portugal all time top scorer, and messi will overtake Batistuta within the next 12 months. Why not enjoy the fact that we have been lucky enough to have 2 of the greatest players of all time to watch, rather than trying to put them down with baseless arguments. It's who has had the best calendar year. Which is why it's so hard to that one of those two have been that player 8 years running. I'm not lying, they have gone back and forth between the 2 of them for EIGHT years. Neither has won the WC, they have one continental trophy between them and the majority of the past 8 CL have not gone to their teams. The argument is why haven't other players been in the mix when it's pretty clear they have accomplished more in a given year and generally are just as good at their positions as Messi and Ronaldo are at theirs. From 2008-2012 Xavi and Iniesta, widely regarded as 2 of the greatest CMs in football, won La Ligas, 2 CL trophies, 2 European Championships AND a World Cup while playing pivotal parts in all of them. How have they had a worse year in 2010 or 2011 than Messi or Ronaldo had? As someone mentioned, some of those Bayern players won a World Cup and were outstanding for their world class club team as well. Messi and Ronaldo would both have given their right feet to win a World Cup, so I have a hard time imagining one of them had it better in 2014 than Manuel Neuer or even Thomas Muller in 2010

In 2010, Sneijder help led Inter to the European Cup. Then in the Summer, he helped lead Holland to the World Cup Final. However, he didn't even get into the Final third. After that fiasco, I stopped caring about this competition. Edited January 12, 201610 yr by robdog
January 12, 201610 yr Who is the most ridiculous vote on there? I saw one for Yaya Toure. Not a single defender being on the list is the most ridiculous for me, it's like a popularity contest.
