December 29, 201510 yr Is nearly upon us. I'm sure we have a lot of thoughts on what exactly we need to do in this window to try and fix things. Personally I'd get rid of Falcao now, he is a complete waste of a squad space and hundreds of thousands of pounds per week. Either bring in another striker now, someone who can battle, like a Charlie Austin type. Or maybe bring back Bamford and give him a go (never going to happen, but I can dream). And I think if we can sign a quality CM, so that we are not so reliant on an awful Fabregas or a Mikel/Ramires who can barely pass the ball, that would help us a lot in both directions, as we won't lose the ball quite so much and be facing on rushing attackers, and maybe even he might be able to bring the ball forward and help create some goals (someone with a long range shot on them would be ideal). I'd do a hell of a lot more in the summer, but in Jan there are never big changes. Of course, we may well do absolutely nothing and have the exact same squad for the whole rest of the season. Seeing how awful our summer window was, this wouldn't surprise me at all. What are your thoughts on what we should do in this window?
December 29, 201510 yr In regards to the CM situation, how is Van Ginkel doing at Stoke? From the limited glimpses of him I've seen he's tenacious going forwards and backwards and is far more physical than he appears and there's nowhere better to develop that than at Stoke on a cold, wet Wednesday night!
December 29, 201510 yr Depends if Guus in an interim or not. Regardless, if whoever was in charge of transfers this summer is still in charge... then Ihope no business is done because it'll be a waste of money that could be better used under whoever the new manager will be....and I literally mean whoever will be better. I think the best use of this winter window, now, will be to see if any of our loaned out/youth players are capable of plugging holes in the squad or just being a competent member of it. Help to better identify the areas that must be addressed via transfers in the summer window.

I have seen Van Ginkel play a couple of games and he looks pretty good, he is no Lamps but he works hard and he's pretty reliable, which is more than we can say about Matic and Cesc
December 29, 201510 yr heard steven naismith could be going to norwich in jan for 8 mil. he is a player i would like in this team, a tough player with a fighting spirit we lack. he may be 29 but he's a nuisance player and can score. he will likely be overlooked though.
December 29, 201510 yr Ideally I'd like to see Falcao's loan terminated and Bamford recalled. I know that's not h going to happen but it's what I would like to see. If the club are still serious about Stones then they should just go back and offer the £40/45m in the opening week of the window and see what happens. Beyond that I think we should wait until the summer and let the new manager sign who they want or else we'll end up with more useless club signings like Salah and Cuadrado were.
December 29, 201510 yr Wouldn't mind getting Alex Teixeria. Insane stats for Shaktar this season. We missed out on Douglas Costa but maybe Teixeria could make similar impact.

December 29, 201510 yr Prefer to spend big in the summer otherwise it's just overpaying. It's not as though there's much to realistically play for. (Hopefully not - at least in one sense)

Undoubtedly he has good stats and he's scored against us which makes him a shoe-in here.He is though only 5ft 8, so again the question mark is how he will handle the physicality of our league?

Help to better identify the areas that must be addressed via transfers in the summer window. I agree but it's unlikely to happen. We'll bring in a couple of big names in January. Seems that we always do. We will probably find that with a departure or two though. Which isn't a bad thing.
December 29, 201510 yr andy carroll, go all out for him, we need a big man up front Edited December 29, 201510 yr by luckywerthers
December 29, 201510 yr We could do with a player in the mould of de bruyne or lukaku, failing that, someone like mata.... [emoji35][emoji35][emoji35][emoji35]
December 29, 201510 yr who've we been linked to? Fear not. Mr Abramovich's famous football brain is working overtime to solve our problems. Having made the shrewd business decision not to buy anyone of note to strengthen the squad in the summer, he is poised to go big and make a marquee signing next week. In other words Torres is coming back.
December 29, 201510 yr The summer wil be difficult as we will likely have no champions league to entice players with. United proved that with alot of money, you don't need CL football to get good players. Unfortunately our board aren't that generous anymore.
December 30, 201510 yr Remy struggles with fitness and I don't know the problem with falcao, so I will bring in a new striker that will not cost much. Ighalo!
December 30, 201510 yr Let's get rid of Falcao. That's for sure, and we could be losing Remy too unless he starts getting a bit more of game time. With Remy, he may be frustrating at times and definitely not the same presence as Diego but when looking at the goal/game ration its not that bad. Think he's got a goal per start but most of the time comes on to no effect. I honestly think if he gets a run of games he could get firing as he was for Newcastle / QPR at one point a few seasons back.
December 30, 201510 yr We need strength and players who can pass and shoot. We are very weak all over and we can't seem to string more than 3 or 4 passes together comfortably or get a shot on goal.
December 30, 201510 yr Never been a fan of spending big in the January window and even now I don't think we should spend big in the coming window. However, I agree with the OP in that we desperately need a quality CM, and personally feel we should go all out for a top centre-mid in this window. A lot of our problems this season have stemmed from being overrun in midfield and being unable to string passes together. The obvious choice would be Witsel, who confirmed yesterday he wants to leave Zenit.
December 30, 201510 yr Realistically we cannot expect too much in terms of players leaving this window. Most of our players are cup tied in the CL, that seems to make a difference. Also I doubt guus will make such big decisions so quickly. More likely he gives and end of season report to Roman and emenalo. Most likely players like Papy, Remy, bamford, traore, kenedy and rlc leave. On loan or sold. No big sale out. Who comes in depends on who leaves. Whether a deal for the latest shaktar Brazilian goes through is now in question too.
December 30, 201510 yr I want blood. Axe Costa, Fabregas, and Falcao, we DO NOT need players like them milking this club, send a message to the squad, don't f**k with your paymasters, everyone is culpable, no one player is bigger than this club, bust your balls or sling your hook. The rest of the squad we can work with, but the axe will be waiting. When we do that we will have a sterile atmosphere, get rid of the toxicity. To save us money and ensure we don't go and waste money on stupid signings in January, we should just use our massive pool of players on loan and in the youth teams. Solanke, Bamford, Abraham, Aina, Musonda, with Traore, Kenedy, RLC added to the team. You can guarantee two things by doing the above^. You will win over the fans, and you will also have hungry players on the pitch busting their balls for the club we love. That to me is poetry.

A nice idea mate, but more like a fantasy novel than poetry. I would be very happy were it to come true.
