Antonio Conte - Now Officially Manager

Featured Replies

We don't need Conte as manager. We already got Michael Emenalo.............. :face_palm:

That needs to be the next area we address. No point just changing one cog in the machine when you've still got these other ones in place.

You want to welcome him and think this is the start of successful tine for the club. But we all know a mangerial appointment at Chelsea is about as routine as bringing the next ground steward (no disrespect). Chelsea normally do fine under Italian stewardship Vialli; Ranieri; Ancelloti; DiMatteo (ok Swiss) and of course the Italian player influence notably Zola ! But if Italy have an absolute pants Euro 2016; and their footballs poor and its an early exit. Will the knives be out before we start ?. He needs time as well as backing; and everyone knows you do not get that. High time we appointed a manager and showed some conviction welcome to the house of fun Mr Conte.

That does need addressing and if I was Conte that would be a stipulation of my agreeing to take the job on. Emelano needs pointing through the door marked EXIT sharpish !

Need to open the cash vault now and let him bring in 3 or 4 big names that will push us forward.

Whilst I semi agree I would like to see 2-3 youth players given a chance and I have to wonder what big names will settle for no European football.

The worry is if we go down that route we could do a Liverpool and be in the wilderness for many years while clubs like United and City pull away spending millions in the process.

I think a balance is needed. We clearly need 3/4 top players to come in and have the younger boys in and around the first team. Guys like RLC, Traore and Christensen should feature heavily I'd like to think.

I've just realised something, does he speak English?

I think his English is okay. I saw an interview from him in English on YouTube and although basic, it wasn't too bad. I'd imagine he is glazing pretty intense lessons, so I doubt he will need an interpreter when he starts.

Welcome to the club Antonio and wishing you all the best when you arrive here and start managing us.

He's a man with experience and his CV especially at Juventus impresses me. From all accounts, I've heard he's a very intense and tactically-astute manager so I hope he doesn't take it easy on our players. For what it's worth, I still think we need a huge rebuild in the playing squad but now it's up to Antonio to make the right calls here and decide how he wants to shape the squad.

I'm not going to get emotionally invested about this appointment as I have no faith in the board at the moment but please, just please give the man a chance to excel and don't ditch him at the first sign of trouble, and most importantly don't interfere with his management of the club.

If after three years there's no evident improvement or things are not working then we can review his position as manager but until then we need to stick with him but knowing this board anything is possible.

Maybe I'm grasping at straws here, but I'm a little concerned that he's been referred to as 'first team head coach' rather than 'first team manager' which Jose was referred to when he was reappointed as manager in June 2013. Hopefully that's not a sign that the likes of Emenalo will be still playing an active role on the field at the club.

Maybe that's not a bad thing in the long term. We have so much money that we're not forced to think hard about whether we're spending wisely. It's not unlike the players who have so much money that they buy expensive cars without researching the car's quality and thinking about whether the car is actually suited for them.

Developing our young players can save us a lot in the long run because we won't have to pay those ridiculous transfer fees and won't have to spend so many resources on getting new players. The ones that have come through the system will be committed to the club and not ask to leave when Real Madrid knocks.

Will he be able to cope with the pace of the league?

Will he be able to speak fluently and effectively to all his players?

Will he attract top players?

Legitimate concerns

:)

hopefully he's not short fused coz he has a face like one... can he follow his italian predecessor by winning trophy at chelsea? we'll see..
