Antonio Conte - Now Officially Manager

Featured Replies

Like many Chelsea fans, I don't know huge amounts about Conte so will have to reserve judgement. Sure, I know he had done well in Italy up to now but that means little. Coming to another country, knocking our squad into shape and getting to grips with the PL and our media whilst improving his English will be a whole new ball-game.

He wouldn't have been my first choice and I haven't got the "Wow, we've got Conte as our Coach - this is going to be amazing" kind of feeling but only time will tell. I won't expect miracles and he isn't going to win every game. It will be a tough task to compare with Mourinho (first time around), but all I hope is that we see progress. We play better football and he is able to integrate a few of the youngsters as Hiddink has done of late.

Pretty much how I feel too.

I don’t think he’s anywhere near the calibre of managers like Jose and Carlo who have come before him but then there are few out there at that level now not to mention we sacked one of them a few months ago.

I want to buy into this is a whole new era and the man will be given the tools for the job but I can’t help but feel it will be a case of a season or two before he gets his jotters unless we win the league and/or some cups while performing well in Europe.

I just hope the club back him in his transfer targets to build the team he feels we require to challenge again. No more donkey signings like Papy or Hector or paying silly money for players who clearly are not up to it like Baba, Cuadrado, Salah and co.

His record with youth isn't great so we might be disappointed on that front.

I was going to post, "no more than usual", but surely the time has come for that to change?

Everyone you hear, whether connected with the club or not - they're all saying the same thing. Supporters, ex-players, pundits on Sky and on the radio - WHY are Chelsea's highly rated academy players not coming through? Embarrassingly, JT is still the last one and sometime soon he will no longer be a Chelsea player so surely this has to be addressed. It is no coincidence that it looks like the FA Youth final will again be contested by ourselves and Man City - the two teams widely recognized as having the best youth facilities and squads. What is the point if it goes no further? It HAS to be in Conte's remit to get some through into the first team squad or someone to come out and be honest and say they are just not good enough, in which case sell them rather than let them linger.

What scale of a clear out are we talking though?

We are already a light squad with the bulk of it out on loan.

Players I’d imagine people are thinking of are Mikel, Oscar, Remy, Falcao, Baba while there are questions over if guys like Tibo, Costa and Hazard want to stay at the club.

It's actually mental how many italians we've had at the club. When you think about it this appointment just feels a bit like deja vu, in a good way.

The good thing is that he's young and only been management a relatively short period of time. My theory is that managers burn out after around 10 years and cannot offer a sustained long term period of success (20 years).

There are questions over Jose in this regard. It's all about getting managers in at the right time - when they are hungry and fresh.

AVB springs to mind.

I try not to read too much into it tbh.

Jose still won the title at a canter when he came back so that's not bad going for someone who has 'lost it'.

I feel it's more down to the board on how a manager performs these days.

He might as well clear dead wood like Falcao, Remy etc and get as much money as possible for Costa, Hazard etc as they will not put up with any rants. Might as well sell and buy as he sees fit but cannot imagine RA and ME allowing this for one minute.

I always thought he had a good eye for youth, spotting Pogba, Berardi and calling up Bernardeschi for the national team. I think he'll have a field day with the plethora of talent we have in the ranks.

Pogba was highly rated by many was he not before he left to join them.

United just badly managed him I think. That being said I didn't think he'd go on to become as big a player as he is today granted.

 Fixed it

So how long do you think he'll last? My bet is three seasons. I think if he makes it to two full seasons then they'll let him finish his contract. No point in sacking him and paying out right before his contract expires anyway.

Pretty sure he won't outlast Emanalo.

I'd like to think that this season has changed Roman and the board to have a longer term view, but I'm pessimistic about that.

Berardi had made over 100 senior appearances when Conte called him up while Bernardeschi had made 60 so it's not really similar to promoting a youth team player to the first-team squad.

I was under the impression his record for promoting youth isn't great as well.

Hello to everyone,

I am a Juventus Fan and in BPL I am a fan of the blues.

Congratulations for your new manager...I Know very well Conte and how train his team.

Is one of the best manager in the world, very underrated...he is a Mix by Fabio Capello and Louis Van Gaal..he live for football 24 hours all days...he is a very maniac of football tactics..and Arrigo Sacchi love him...

His way of football is perfect for the Premier League.

i Think that he start at Chelsea with a 442 and he love football players like Diego Costa...

I'm here If you have some questions.

Sorry for my English
