Alvaro Morata

Featured Replies

One thing to take into account, about a week ago sports analysis was saying Salah needed more chances to score than Morata. It was close yet do we think the same about Salah being wasteful?

Think we need a bit more patience though a second striker would not go amiss providing he could link up with the rest of the team unlike Bats.

I'm a huge Morata fan and he's probably one of my favourite players here but if you really think his finishing isn't concerning and it's normal for a top class striker then I don't know what to say.

I'm sure the only one on ones he's scored was against Stoke City in the away game, and he's had plenty of chances. I'm well aware of how poor Torres was here, Torres missed some sitters but he didn't miss as many one on ones as Morata did. But the reasons for that is quite complex, Torres was never in the right position, he was always playing deep at Chelsea, he completely transitioned from his Liverpool days, clearly, the knee injury took its toll on him.

I'm not saying Torres was clinical by any means, but I can't remember Torres ever being in a one on one position that many times, with Morata it's like you know he's not going to score. I mean he is making the movement, he is getting the service, but what's the point of it all if he's not finishing it off. I remember Costa missing plenty of chances but I also remember Costa barely getting a chance in a game and he still used to score, that's what type of player he was. I think the Morata really needs to adapt in front of goal, we've seen him bang in plenty at Madrid with his feet, but what's the issue now? Because there clearly is an issue, it's happened too many times.

Did Torres even get many chances to add to the goals he scored? As wierd as it sounds i would have in many ways been content if he missed 4 sitters in 1 game because being in the position to miss in itself is a positive sign.

I don't think it is a positive thing keep missing these chances. It's like every time it happens he just goes deeper into a low.

Last night he had a chance right at the beginning, i call it a chance, it was a through ball center left, he got into the 6yd box and instead of wrapping his left foot around the ball and firing in a shot, he toe tapped it with his right foot into the side netting.

A boxer can take a big punch, but no boxer can keep taking big punches. Morata can't keep missing without it affecting him.

It is scary that we paid so much money for literally a one footed player.

Eidur in his prime would be a perfect fit for this team. Maybe Alvaro can get some footage of him up online and learn a trick or two.

Good point, Salah has missed a ton of chances this season.

I think someone forgot to tell you we sold him, he's not our player.

I'm aware.  Just comparing another attacking player in the PL since we have been on the topic of missed chances.  But I appreciate your concern.

Don't think we are being harsh. He was a "Big" signing and frankly he is in danger of becoming another statistic on our list of expensive strikers who didn't live up to expectations. Fleck, Sutton, Sheva, Torres.............
Don't get me wrong - I like Morata and am praying that he comes good. He does look as though he has all the elements to his game to be a real success. But it seems he is mentally weak. Right now there is certainly something not right and it's making the idea of signing Andy Carroll look a good one - which is obviously not a comfortable thing to admit!!

Because it absolutely true, I remember when Hazard had a horrible season quite a large portion of fan's thought he was finished and calling for the board to get them most for him from real Madrid, modern day fan's are far too impatient.

There is certainly a degree of impatience but that comes from being a big club like Chelsea where you have to hit the ground running - especially when our striker options are as limited as they are. In an ideal world he could have been eased in & out of the side but unfortunately for him he is at the very sharp end and he HAS to score goals or at least contribute and in recent games he has been more of a liability. I don't want to hear about us not playing to his strengths. Sure, all strikers need service but he gets that from Hazard, Fab, Azpi etc. f**k me, he's meant to be a top striker so you expect him to be able to create chances for himself. I'm not writing him off but we do need to see a MASSIVE improvement and sooner rather than later.

Also not sure why people keep throwing Salah into the argument. Salah is an attacking midfielder and has scored a phenomenal amount of goals this season - something Lamps would have been proud of. He isn't expected to score that many goals and okay, so he has missed a fair few - just as well otherwise they'd already be presenting him with the golden boot. If Morata was contributing to our team anything like the way Salah is for the dippers then I'm sure there wouldn't be any complaints.

Well no that's what I said, Torres was the main reason for why he didn't score goals, not the service. People were saying after his first season "Just wait until he gets the service, that's all he needs"

Morata seems to really create chances for himself but missing that many is not healthy as someone just pointed out, you can't keep missing chances like that without it affecting you and your team. And yeah sure it looks positive because he's in the right position, but is it positive when he's consistently missing chances? And the team is consistently creating those chances? It makes you think that you need someone else. It's easy to say that now, but when you watch the Arsenal game where we could have easily put it to bed and we didn't, you think differently.

Bollocks today, offered next to nothing in attack. He's such a wimp as well. When we need him to hold onto the ball, he goes down and hopes the ref will give him a foul ( 9 times out of 10 that doesn't happen )

He will need to improve soon or people will start asking if he is physically strong enough for the Premier League.

I'd rather see him getting on the end of things and missing than almost completely anonymous like today. I could believe it if he's lost enough confidence that he (subconsciously) goes into hiding to avoid messing up, or maybe the service really was that bad - hard to tell when you only see what's on the TV cameras and not the full picture.

The constantly going down thing needs to stop though. He should have learnt by now that it's rarely going to win a foul in this league.

Absolute sh*te at the minute. Jimmy, Eidur and Drogba need to put him on a crash course on how to make it as a striker. Apollo Creed training Rocky comes to mind.

Diego Costa won games on his own last year. I mean could you imagine Alvaro Morata scoring the goal Diego scored against West Brom. Could you imagine Alvaro Morata grabbing Chelsea by the jock strap and getting them backing into the game against City and going onto win it. I feel for him because he had such big boots to fill. We can only carry on for so long playing with a man who you know deep down you cannot count on. Arsenal should've been blown out of the water at Emirates but he kept them in it. Batshuayi isn't anywhere near good enough. Sit down with whoever at Chelsea, AC and get a new striker before the season is over.

Can Michy really do any worse than Alvaro is doing at the moment?

Based on his recent appearances, worryingly, yes.

Morata needs to stop being such a powder puff and falling down at any hint of contact, especially with his back to goal.

Getting tiresome only every seeing him if he’s whinging to the ref.
