Don't rate Sturridge, for me very similar to Bats both very good finishers yet need to play in a front two to be effective and then there is Sturridge's injuries chances are he will injured when we need him.

Let him try and get his confidence back in a team where there is less pressure and more opportunities. If he fails, we can ditch him in the summer, if he exceeds expectations, he can come back with renewed confidence and perhaps force his way into the plans of whoever is in charge next season. The problem is, we know he is a good finisher. If he goes to West Ham or Newcastle on loan for example he will probably score a decent amount, he may even score as many/more as Morata which will lead to calls ditching him was a mistake and we need him back asap without looking at the bigger picture on why he looked crap with us. Stick him 1 on 1 with a keeper from six yards and he will tuck it away, but the problem is, when he's playing we are down to ten men unless he is in that exact situation.

For a young player to be second choice at Chelsea the benchmark is Lukaku in 13/14. We're going to have to buy, in the PL the best realistic target is Vardy, but it seems like Conte wants a big hold up striker hence Benteke and Carroll. There's an ocean of talent out there in Europe we can chance on but there's always the chance we sign the next Soldado or Vincent Janssen. (or Batshuayi...)

The problem is though they will be on the bench the majority of the time as Morata or previously Costa would not willingly step aside. The other option is an older striker with a season or two left that wants a medal, yet us playing a single striker means they need to keep their fitness for it to be viable.
January 20, 20188 yr Much better performance today - but you can clearly see Conte's trouble with playing him. He is just too inconsistent - The ball control and the passes seem to go from really good to downright sloppy in a moment of seconds. He needs to play consistently. For his sake i hope the loan move to Seville works out.
January 20, 20188 yr Needs to work on his consistency and focus. Seems to drift in concentration levels. He has what it takes. Just stay zoned in.
January 20, 20188 yr Someone put it perfectly in the match thread: there's a good footballer in there somewhere!

January 20, 20188 yr Thought he offered us a lot more today than Morata has done in recent weeks. Sure he has his frustrating moments, but so does Morata when I think of all the one on ones missed and amount of time he spends on the floor claiming fouls. He did well today considering he is going to be out the door any minute. We needed him too with all the suspensions. Well done Michy

Well done MichyMorata has missed one v ones that he helped create with good movement. If you really look at Michy's movement and decision-making not just today but since he arrived, he and Morata are worlds apart.

Alvaro didn't create anything, it was just Arsenal giving us our three clear cut chances, like they do for every team in every game. Even Palace yesterday had loads of clear cut chances, despite what the 4-1 scoreline suggests.

January 21, 20188 yr Thought he was 6/10, got a nice touch to set up Willian but other than that he was the weak point in the attack. Willian/Hazard tried to set him up, he's either offside or a yard slow, had 1 decent shot, and wasted several clear cut chances to set up team mates. I'd still take a goal-shy Morata next game.
January 21, 20188 yr Our last three strikers have been in the mode where they run into space to receive a pass and then bear onto goal to score. Bats seems different, he seems to expect the ball at his feet and then looks to offload it looking for the return. This seems to rule out long passes and suggest more close build up interplay for him to be effective. That means he cannot play effectively in a one striker role like Morata or Costa. If we do keep him we need to play another system not try and replicate the system used for Morata or Costa.

Strikers like Morata, like Diego Costa, regularly create with their movement. It is one of the foundations of being a good/top striker.Michy's movement and space recognition is terrible. He has very good physical qualities but the former is very easily recognized by top coaches like Conte and it is why he doesn't get enough opportunities at Chelsea.

His most effective role is being a second striker to our 3 man attack so he can freely move anywhere and is marked much less than being the focal point.

Phrases like 'don't half stay upright for a long time' tend to throw me off. Especially when the discussion is about the comparative movement and space recognition of Morata v Michy.
