Funny thing with Torres is i remember that game at WHL in 2013 when he lost the ball for a Spurs goal, missed two one on one's and got sent off yet after that game was widely praised and unanimously voted as MOTM. Just further highlights the ridiculous double standards with him as Morata would get slaughtered for a similar profile game.

Some matches Torres certainly put a shift in and put himself about, the fans recognised that even if we was not scoring. Like Morata recently they both struggled with the easier opportunities, less so the instinctive ones. Hopefully we won't be tempted to compare for much longer.

There shouldn't even be a comparison. Morata's been inconsistent, Torres was crap in every way imaginable. To put it in perspective, Morata is 10 goals away from Torres's overall PL goal tally for us with 90 games to spare.

Don't understand this viewpoint people have. I can understand a very weak striker coming here and having to adjust by putting a bit of muscle on but not someone like Morata. He's had plenty of time and scenarios where he must realise being a little bitch isn't going to help in this league. His 'adjustment' shouldn't be taking this long. As for being clinical in front of goal, think this is a mental aspect. Once again, difficult to overcome. Especially if he's already 24 and shown no signs of improving that aspect. (Was the same at Juve and Real)

He scored most of his goals with his feet at Juve & Madrid I know that much, here it's taken a bit of a dive as we all well know.

He isn't known for being the most clinical, but his movement is superb and so is his technique in general. It's a shame he isn't more clinical but I'm sure he can score plenty of goals, he's already scored plenty as it is, don't forget that.

You seem to have a lot of faith in Bakayoko who can't seem to grasp the basics of a defensive midfielder, would that not be the same as "very difficult to overcome" when it comes to Morata then?

But you don't understand - they're both Spanish, so they might as well be clones.

When he came on last night, he looked like a player resigned to the fact he will soon be leaving. Was painful to watch and I think him moving on will be the best for both parties.

When a lad who's been injured all season is coming on instead of you as a first half replacement you know the manager has no confidence in you.

What's the point in having Michy if the manager is going to look for every excuse not to play him?

To be fair to Conte, from what he has shown recently you can see why he doesn't want to play him. Real shame, as I was hoping he could be the answer, but last night he looked a million miles away from being PL / CL standard.

We should be creating an archive of all of these accurate observations @Nibs just in case he turns into an actually decent footballer 5 years down the line for a different team and all the revisionist nonsense about "another Kdb scenario" starts getting posted in here

I'm not a huge fan of what Michy offers either but the Barkley sub was just weird, he was clearly (and understandably) not match fit and to throw him into the team for his first competitive football in going on for a year didn't make sense. Especially when the game could easily have gone to extra time as well.

Drinkwater was on the bench and he could have come on instead and we switched to 3-5-2. Or even push Moses up into attack and bring Zappacosta on... I dunno.

I agree, yet don't think he is the best with substitutes anyway. Probably why he has won no cups.

Another KDB scenario?

My God!

That would be some world news.

I get the feeing Hazard has been giving him advice, what a time to start scoring!

He hasn't grown or improved other parts of his play because he doesn't get the opportunity to play actual games consistently. What's wrong with giving Morata 65 mins or 70 mins of every game and letting him have the rest to play with his team mates and gel in actual competitive games?

I may support him blindly to some people and I know he has his shortcomings, what I won't do is criticise him for not improving on them because he doesn't even get the chance to. He was a top marksman in France (cue the sub par league comments) and Eden and Kante are also products of that same league.

In theory nothing though before changing you need to be comfortable he can get can get one back if needed and I don't remember many matches this season where we have won by more than 2 goals.

I am not sure how to digest this little know fact

two of those goals for Michy were not in the first team just u23. so he's on 10. still favourable figures though.

Arguably as likely to score as Morata at the moment.

Unarguably he's more honest and able to stay upright.

ok I believe this is a better representation - also Bats has more Champion's League Goals than Lacazette :P

I feel like, as a club, we're in an unfortunate position in regards to our strikers, in that each of them are very confidence based, they'll be fantastic on their day when they're feeling good, they'll be taking their chances and working well with their team.
But when they endure periods of dry spells like Morata or a seemingly lack of trust from the manager with Michy, it can heavily effect their performance. I'm so glad when I see them both doing well, because both have bags of potential.
