January 31, 20188 yr Here's how a loan deal makes sense to me. Firstly, it's fairly apparent that Conte doesn't rate him, so with Morata fit (and sometimes even not), gametime will be limited. If he does turn out to be a regular starter at Dortmund, then it should do him a world of good, and all being well, he'll come back a better player. Just look what a spell in the Bundeslega did for Andreas Christensen. By the same token, Conte not rating the player takes the pressure off Morata. As long as he's fit/not suspended, he's a pretty much nailed on starter. Furthermore, loaning Batman frees up a place for Giraud, who has a wealth of Premiership experience, should make an effective impact sub at the very least, and I dare say, could well put pressure on Morata, who as a further added bonus, might well learn something of playing as a Premiership striker from Giraud. Having said all that, I'd be very much against selling Batshuayi outright.

Surprised we're letting him go personally but there you go. That's the best situation for the player and Chelsea as a club. We can't just throw him away without "testing" him. It would just feel like Salah, KDB, Lukaku all over again. Even Torres, Costa, Morata when on a bad run get constantly played to play them into form so a rusty player as a result of severe bench warming should certainly get at least a constant run of 5 -10 games before you can start to make assumptions. At least on loan at Dortmund he will get a run of games and show if he can cut it as a lead striker. Rather than selling and then regretting it if he does blossom.
January 31, 20188 yr I doubt he'll pull up any trees in Germany. Gotta feel for Dortmund. Replacing Aubameyang with Batshuayi has gotta hurt. Best of luck to Batshuayi, but I get the feeling he's played his last game for Chelsea.
January 31, 20188 yr Giroud gets a 2 and half year deal at most, I heard it's 18 months. Realistically, Batshuayi could come back 12-18 months later and get his second chance with us, at least we'd get a buy-back clause like we have been doing recently. If the merry go around deal does go through, it's a peace offering to Conte, give him a proven striker he could use

January 31, 20188 yr Bye Michy. We probably should have kept you and we know you are going to become a world-beater at Dortmund but hey, 'cause Chelsea.
January 31, 20188 yr Lets not get silly now. I think people like Batshuayi's personality more than his actual football skills. Can understand that, seems like a good lad. If he'd delivered more on the field he wouldn't be on a bike in the medical centre in BVB. Wish him the best of luck.

He's by no means perfect but given his limited minutes he scored quite a lot of goals and given Morata's fragile mental state I think whoever is backup at Chelsea was likely to get a lot of minutes between now and the end of the season.... Why not look to make your £33m investment come good? Michy is only 24, plenty of time to develop as a striker. Instead we appear to be looking short term by signing an over 30. I don't see a way back for Michy after this which is odd given he's played less than 5 league matches from the start in 18 months at the club.

With a Giroud maybe he is thinking short term and qualifying for the Champions League. With Giroud and his experience, and to a certain extent his goal scoring record, he thinks his the best option to reach that goal. If we do make the top 4, Giroud plays well(Which I think he will.) and Batshuayi scores and plays well in BVB, them we have had a good do. Also, Giroud signing will hopefully up Morata's game. With Batshuayi there I don't think Morata would have felt he needed to work that hard to remain a starter. With Giroud there(A proven player at both international and club level.) he'll need to prove he's the main man. This is a great deal for the club from all angles. January 31, 20188 yr Should cut out the middle section and bought Aubameyang off Dortmund and offered Bats on an 18month loan to lower the price. Ah, it’s nice to dream...

I'm not suggesting it's the reason why Michy has been loaned out, but fwiw I think players like Michy get managers the sack. I think it was Gary Lineker who flippantly suggested on MOTD that poachers no longer have a place in the modern game, I think there's some truth to it personally (at least with regard to per 90 performance). Gabbiadini, Aubameyang, both players I would consider to be poachers have seen a turnover of managers at their respective clubs. For me it's simple, to get the best from Michy we need Man City's midfield. Edited January 31, 20188 yr by the special one

Gabbiadini, Iheanacho, Aubameyang - players I would consider to be poachers have all seen a high turnover of managers at their respective clubs. For me it's simple, to get the best from Michy we need Man City's midfield. Feels like Michy has been used as a square peg in a round hole for a lot of his playing time at Chelsea. When he's started games he's looked quite ineffective, unable to join in attacks and looking lost. But maybe that's because he isn't suited to coming deep, playing a short passing game etc.? He's often looked best when we've been chasing a result and our football has been a lot more direct and he's able to just concentrate on getting in the 18 yard box and finding some space. Makes you wonder if, had we just let him do that and play more direct whilst he's leading the line... Getting the fullbacks to put crosses into the front post. Getting the likes of Fabregas, Willian to hit balls over the top for him... I dunno, maybe he would looked a bit more lethal?
January 31, 20188 yr I think he'd do well in a front 2, he just doesn';t have enough to lead the line by himself.

He may be a bit more lethal with that directness to our play as you say, the problem is what we concede as a result. Michy may score more goals but I would hazard a guess in trying do so would leave us more open to counter attacks and transitions. Batshuayi for me arguably had his best per 90 game v Brighton but we still gave away too many chances, a better side would have punished us. As I've said on here before it's a similar story with Aubameyang, he scores for fun at Dortmund but Dortmund concede more as a result - they essentially play 'crapshoot football', hoping to score more than the opposition (this season they're currently 6th, well below their expectations). I hope he makes it here but I can't help but think we're better off without him in the long term. Edited January 31, 20188 yr by the special one
