May 26, 20179 yr Side Show Bob is a True Blue - I will sing the David Luiz song for the rest of the weekend
June 16, 20179 yr Interesting that Brazil were using him in the holding midfield role again (although there was a lot of rotation in that lineup). I've always liked him in midfield, although my memory's a bit foggy as to how often & well he actually played there, versus how long this forum spent complaining that he should be used there. More suited to the role he's currently playing with us now I reckon, but it'd be interesting to see if he ever features there again for us.

If we bought Bonucci and sold Matic, I'd have Luiz in midfield alonside Kante any day. He's a fabulous footballer wherever he plays.
June 16, 20179 yr @spadefx I recall he played in midfield under Benitez and did ok. I think it was Gullit that made an interesting point about Luiz. It was something like JT not great pace but reads the game brilliantly and senses danger yet Luiz is the opposite. He does not sense danger but just reacts and that is dangerous in a back four. As one of 3 CBs this is not normally a problem as the other CBs will sense danger and Luiz therefore has the time to react and together with this we get his superior distribution. There is still a weakness though as I see it and that is when a team play two big CFs and Luiz can go back to his risky reactive play. On a separate point I read the CFC management really liked his influence in the dressing room too. Edited June 16, 20179 yr by strider6004
June 17, 20179 yr Luiz in midfield only ever worked if we were playing strictly on the counter attack. When played there in games we were expected to take the initiative it was horrendous viewing.
July 6, 20179 yr Rumours are that SSB will be given the Captain's badge next season...I wonder if that means GC taking a bench seat in favour of Rudiger? Edited July 6, 20179 yr by doctorblue

July 17, 20179 yr I like Luiz yet I am not convinced he is a great defender. Sure he had a good season with one caveat. Last season although he did well yet there were a few matches against the top sides last season (notably Spurs) where he looked suspect again. Hopefully they remain the exceptions rather than the norm.
August 14, 20178 yr Although he scored, i was disappointed with David on Saturday. He started wandering up field, something i thought he had managed to kerb last season. It didn't cost us a goal, but with Cahill sent off Luiz should have been more careful. My main gripe with him though was the way he was arguing with Tibo, and the way he conducted himself with the officials. He needs to calm down in those situations and remain focused on his game. Arguing with Tibo was a nonsense, it wasn't Tibos' fault that we allowed Burnley to have free headers on goal. I hope he has apologised to Tibo and taken the wrap himself for not organising the defence quicker as the senior player. I certainly don't think he's captain material. Not unless he can keep his cool.

Not unless he can keep his cool. Not sure at which point in the game you are referring to, but he may have been instructed to do so at different points in the game. You are certainly right with his inability to cover men in the box. He seemed lost at times in defense, and that's inexcusable. As far as courtois, I think Courtois should have come and got the ball. Luiz should stay calm but courtois has to take more charge in his area. There was plenty of time and a more assertive keeper commands his box.

He gets the ball, passes out to the right win and carries on running for the give and go, but he didnt get the ball back, Burnley endd up winning it back and Luiz was 50 yards out of position, luckily nothing came of it, but a better counter attacking team would of punished us.
August 14, 20178 yr christensen to me at times was orchestrating the defence and looked like a leader at his tender age. looking like a future captain. luiz on the other hand, i do agree that he was probably told to go forward more as he can be a threat further up field with his ball playing skills.
August 14, 20178 yr I agree that captain position might not be for him, Azpi suits better. But he still offers us leadership, motivation. About his performance, I'm happy to see him scoring, but I think defensively he could be much better. But like always, he gave his 100%.
August 14, 20178 yr One match and the pitch forks are getting sharpen for luiz, based on what I saw he was instructed to step forward to make the extra man as he has the best attacking ability

If you read what i said, my main gripe was him falling out with Tibo on the pitch and losing control with the ref when we needed a cool head to command the back line.
August 14, 20178 yr Sitting in the stand on Saturday I understand people saying he got worked up and frustrated with the decisions. I can say though when he went forward Kante stayed deep and players adapted with the shape. Morata worked hard on his own and they didn't pick up Luiz because they weren't expecting it. With a better connection in front of goal we could've ended up with an unbelievable draw after all that went on. Also Luiz collapsed to the floor at the end and looked like he could throw up. His heart is in a good place, but agreed his brain has to stay on the job.
August 14, 20178 yr One of the main things he brings to the team is mentality in my opinion. He's probably the biggest character we have in the team right now. He brings a fighting mentality without be a twat like Costa.
September 19, 20178 yr A stupid tackle really. We have Stoke away and City at home in the league and we need our best players available.

Two things piss me off about our three red cards so far. It happened to three of the most senior players in the team. All of them were pointless tackles with nothing to gain except possession of the ball in the middle of the pitch. Piss poor really for top professionals.
September 19, 20178 yr A lot has been said in the past couple of days about the overhead kick, which rightly or wrongly is deemed as dangerous. As yet though I've yet to see any debate on why Koscieleny lay prostrate on the floor holding his face when clearly having been caught in the chest. This kind of cheating needs eradicating from the game and should carry a retrospective card.

In the replays he clearly caught his hand/chest, but did the 'hold the face' trick to get 'something' out of the ref, despicable twat !!, and what made it worse was that not one single pundit has brought this up (although the replay clearly shows feigning injury by the gooner scum) which according to the new rules is exactly what they are trying to stamp out. The red he did get though was a straight red, and he can have no complaints.
