October 21, 20178 yr He's not played well recently but was actually ok today. Shame people need to trash him. By all means say he's out of form and needs to be dropped but don't put him down historically.
October 21, 20178 yr Author Historically he's always been a weak link in our team. He has never been world class or in the top 5 CBs in the league. Just a fairly average player that has no business being in our first team. I've always felt we can upgrade on him and we have two potential upgrades in Christensen and rudiger. Either should be starting ahead of him.

Either should be starting ahead of him. Which of our CBs is world class or top 5 in the league? If thats the standard, we have 6 or 7 other players that need replacing. While I don't think Gary is average, he'd walk into 3/4 of the teams in the league, he is only good enough for about 85% of the matches we play when on form. I'd love to see him relegated to the bench and spot start most of the time. I suspect his nationality will keep him on the books for a couple more seasons. October 21, 20178 yr i haven't rewatched the game, but was he partly at fault for that 2nd goal by not marking the man closest to him? it looked like he ran over with luiz to get the ball, but left a big space for watford to exploit. it doesn't help with alonso on that side too, both of them lack the pace to keep up when we're countered with any kind of speed. it's no surprise marco silva got watford players to target that right wing in the 2nd half to great success. Conte made a big call dropping the captain last season, he needs to do it again. Failhill will cost us if he doesn't. Always fearful when opening such negative threads.....wasn't disappointed....absolutely pointless. Give GC a break please .... And OP, I think your warm milk is ready.
October 21, 20178 yr I have come across this guy (the OP) on other forum's and i strongly recommend an immediate ban.I'm not on any other football forums so unfamiliar with this twatblanket but that that confirms my suspicion.

Yeah I honestly feel Cahill only starts because conte is for some reason afraid to not have any English players in the team.

October 22, 20178 yr Definitely think he should not be starting, I personally would go with Azbi-Luiz-Rudiger That back three has pace, and better ball distribution.

Either should be starting ahead of him. Historically, he was voted by his peers into the 2013/14, 2014/15 & 2016/17 PFA Team of the Year. He made 36 appearances when we won the league in 14/15 and 37 when we won the league in 16/17. He played in the final of both our recent European successes (with an injury in 2012), contributing massively (remember his last minute tackle in the Europa League final?). Di Matteo, Benitez, Mourinho, Hiddink and Conte have all picked him. Not bad for an average player.
October 22, 20178 yr Author I appreciate that he's played in good teams, but he's never been more than an average player. The likes of Wes Brown, John O'Shea and Ji sung park played a lot of minutes in Man Utd title winning teams and all were average players. i aint saying he's terrible, but he's just not very good and there's no reason why he should be starting at all any more considering we have 4 better options at centre back.

Besides, he never should have been made captain in the first place. Azpi or Luiz would have been better choices.

Cahill was at fault for the second goal by chasing a runner across the box instead of passing him on to someone else. He then fell over and left a hole on the left side leaving the scorer unmarked. We suffered when Alonso is up field Cahill comes across with Luiz following leaving gaps in the middle of goal. As you say pace is a problem that side. JT never had pace so it's not all about that, it's also the reading of individual situations.
October 22, 20178 yr Although this is a ridiculous thread to start people that defend Cahill by claiming he has helped us to win trophies in the past are deluded. Ivanovic helped us win loads of silverware but everyone agreed towards the end he shouldn't be starting and we had better options. Cahill is a good squad player but shouldn't be in the starting 11 every game.

Disagree about Park, I can't remember what I was watching, maybe Nevilles Soccerbox? But I believe he was very highly thought of in the United dressing room. The personal bashing of GC is boring even me now, I'm not his biggest fan as I don't think he's in good form but he's always been a committed guy and comes across really well, the abuse is completely unnecessary. When you consider Luiz form has hardly been world class this season, yet he seems to escape a lot of the criticism Gaz comes in for. i agree that he probably shouldn't be starting based on form. I'd be playing... Rudiger...Christensen... Azpilicueta but I'm not the gaffer. However, the abuse and saying he didn't contribute to the trophies he's won while here is actually beyond ridiculous. October 22, 20178 yr I think we have a better defence unit without Chill, his lack of pace is exposing our left hand side defence, and everytime he runs with the ball out scare the sh* out of me. But for god sake do we need another name and shame player thread?
October 22, 20178 yr Author He didn't contribute anything most other decent CBs couldn't have contributed. He's never been an important player for Chelsea
October 22, 20178 yr The credibility of the OP went out the window when he asked whether GC even played a role in any of the trophies previously mentioned. Furthermore, it seems a few people and the whole of Twitter think to win anything we need to have the three finest ball playing, man marking, goals scoring, aerially strong, tactically savvy and pacey centre backs the world has ever seen. Honestly. GC ain't going anywhere. I've seen better defenders, I've seen worse. However we are more than capabale of winning anything with him in the team. Edited October 22, 20178 yr by Van Butsen
October 22, 20178 yr Author He didn't play a role in any of those trophy wins that any other half decent CB couldn't have. And the problem with Cahill starting is that we have better options at the club who should start over him.

I am not saying that Park wasn't thought of highly in the dressing room but he was not a consistent starter. Cahill has won major trophies with us while being a mainstay in the team and no one can discredit that. He has been a huge part. Not only his defending, but goals contributed too.
October 22, 20178 yr Author He was a part. Not a huge part. A part. And Not a part that couldn't have been played by the likes of Phil Jagielka, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling or any other average centre back. Bang average player. Always has been, always will be.

What a load of nonsense. Jagielka, Jones and Smalling have never had the ability to make as many goal saving blocks and clearances and score goals of their own like Cahill has done. Jones can't even keep himself from getting injured, Smalling relies on pulling and holding players, he also mistimes a lot of headers, and Jagielka has done nothing at all of note in his career. You're twisting facts to suit your agenda.
